(AllHipHop News) Ever since last year’s big debate over New York City radio’s apparent support of local acts, the dialogue has not ceased but intensified. Yesterday (December 11th), Talib spoke with SOHH sided with Trinidad James’ sentiments on New York City radio.
While not explicitly supporting James’ “South runs NY” comments, the veteran MC does perceive James’ statement as a commentary on the state of New York City radio:
Trinidad James is right, when you listen to New York radio, New York radio does not support New York music. That’s what he was speaking to.
Kweli also states that Maino, a vocal detractor of James’ comments, does not solely make New York Hip Hop but also “does music down South too.” An added reason why Kweli is sharing James’ comments is the fact that he himself made similar statements on his personal Twitter account and was criticized for them. The criticism Kweli may be referring to is that from Hot 97’s Program Director Ebro Darden who responded to Kweli’s comments three hours after the article was published:
If u say NY radio doesn’t support you the week ya album comes out that’s “trolling” … When we have & do, just ask for promo @TalibKweli

Kweli has since asked to thoroughly discuss his comments and Ebro Darden’s “troll” accusations with the Hot 97 Program Director either on air on Twitter:
@oldmanebro we can talk on hot or on twitter just to prove I dont need to ask for radio promo. But u gonna have to qualify that statement.
