Run The Jewels El-P Has Something To Say About Killer Mike’s Gun Views

(AllHipHop News) Run The Jewels’ El-P has broken his silence on a controversial interview given by Killer Mike regarding gun control.

The NRA dropped a video titled “The March to Less Freedom” featuring Killer Mike talking about his pro-gun stance.

The interview came just as tens of thousands of students marched for stricter gun control laws over the weekend at “March For Our Lives” rallies around the country.

Earlier this morning, El-P dropped a lengthy statement regarding Killer Mike’s controversial interview and his views on guns.

“I’ve been holding off saying anything until Mike had a chance to make an official statement. We are our own men and we speak for ourselves individually. We are not afraid to disagree with each other and we often change each other’s perspectives. That’s the respect and an understanding between us,” El-P explained.

He continued:

“A lot of people are saying a lot to me directly about Mike online. Please know this about me: I don’t drop friends from my life because I disagree with them or they went about getting a message out, even if it goes wrong.”

El-P, said he’s completely in support of the students who rallied, in addition to their demands to congress to pass stricter gun laws.

But, El-P said he would never turn his back on Killer Mike.

“He stumbles and he makes bad decisions sometimes and he doesn’t always get his message across or even protect himself and I want to f##king strangle him cuz it’s stressful to watch when it could have been avoided,” El-P continued.

“But the fact is Mike is someone I and many of you know consistently and ferociously tries to bring some light and love to this world, you simply can’t deny that. So while I’m bummed at the way this unfolded, I will always f##k with him.”

El-P’s statement comes amidst intense backlash from Killer Mike’s comments.

Mike himself has since apologized and blamed the NRA for exploiting an older interview, during such a sensitive moment in the country.

“I’m sorry guys. I’m sorry that an interview I did about a minority – black people in this country and gun rights -was used as a weapon against you guys. That was unfair to you. It was wrong and disparaged some very noble work you’re doing,” said Mike.

Pressure On Meek Mill’s Judge As Governor Proclaims Support For Rapper

(AllHipHop News) Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has thrown Meek Mill a lifeline as he fights for his freedom after revealing he supports a campaign to release the jailed rapper.

Judge Genece E. Brinkley sentenced the “Ima Boss” hitmaker, who previously dated Nicki Minaj, to two to four years behind bars in November.

Meek, real name Robert Rihmeek Williams, was sentenced for his involvement in a fight at a St. Louis, Missouri airport and for reckless driving in New York.

The judge ruled both violated his probation in connection to a 2008 firearms offense.

As the rap star’s lawyers continue to fight for his freedom, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner recently stated he would be “unopposed” to Mill’s release, and now Wolf has given the idea his blessing, stating: “I support D.A. Larry Krasner’s position in the case of Robert Williams (Meek Mill).

“Our criminal justice system is in need of repair. That’s why my admin has made efforts to invest in programs that divert individuals from the system, improve public safety and promote fairness. But more needs to be done. I am calling on the PA General Assembly to pass the Justice Reinvestment II reforms to the criminal justice system, which help address issues from arrest, trial, sentencing, incarceration, to post-release.”

Mill’s lawyers have launched a bid to Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court to secure their client’s bail and his legal representatives filed paperwork last week requesting his immediate release.

Kanye West’s Creative Director Virgil Abloh Named LV Artistic Director

(AllHipHop News) A close associate of the Louis Vuitton Don will be an artistic director for the iconic fashion house. Virgil Abloh, longtime Kanye West creative director, was hired by LV to lead the menswear division.

“I feel elated,” said Abloh. “This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams. And to show a younger generation that there is no one way anyone in this kind of position has to look is a fantastically modern spirit in which to start.”

The Chicago-born Ghanaian-American launched his Off-White fashion label in 2014. Abloh joins fellow black designers Olivier Rousteing (Balmain) and Ozwald Boateng (Givenchy) to be lead creatives at a French heritage house.

His association with LV is said to be a continuation of the trendy combining of luxury brands with streetwear style. Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke stated, “Virgil is incredibly good at creating bridges between the classic and the zeitgeist of the moment.”

Thanks to his work on Kanye West and Jay-Z’s 2011 collaborative album Watch the Throne, Abloh earned a Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package. However, Caroline Robert won that year for Arcade Fire’s Scenes From The Suburbs.

Chance The Rapper Blasts Heineken For “Terribly Racist” Commercial

(AllHipHop News) Chance The Rapper has made it a practice to call out what he perceives as racial insensitivity in the media. Last December, the “No Problem” rhymer criticized the racism symbolism in the Netflix movie Bright, and he recently took issue with an SNL skit performed by Kevin Hart.

Now Chance has turned his attention to a Heineken advertising campaign he calls “terribly racist.” A commercial for the Dutch brewing company features a bartender sliding a Heineken Light beer past several black people before landing near a light-skinned woman. Then a tagline appears on the screen that reads: “Sometimes, Lighter Is Better.”

“I think some companies are purposely putting out [noticeably] racist ads so they can get more views. And that sh-t [is] racist/bogus so I guess I shouldn’t help by posting about it,” tweeted Chance. “But I gotta just say tho. The ‘sometimes lighter is better’ [Heineken] commercial is terribly racist.”

He added, “Im not saying [boycott] them or go off im just noticing how often it happens and I think they [are] baiting consumers and tweeters and freelancers and sh-t. Like I didnt wanna tweet about it so bad but its like how can u not.”

Heineken is the latest business to face accusations of racist or offensive advertising. Over the last year, Pepsi, Dove, Kellogg, and H&M have all been hit with significant negative reactions for marketing materials viewed as distasteful.

Red Urban is the agency handling Heineken’s U.S. digital advertising. YouTube versions of the “Sometimes, Lighter Is Better” commercial show different scenarios of the bartender sliding beers to various people.

UPDATE:

Heineken has pulled the ‘Sometimes Lighter Is Better” ad. The company’s US spokesman Bjorn Trowery said, “While we feel the ad is referencing our Heineken Light beer, and that light beer is better than other high-calorie options — we missed the mark, are taking the feedback to heart and will use this to influence future campaigns.”

Birdman Keeps His Eagle Eye On Lil Wayne Over The Weekend!

By Rico Panacea (@RicoPanacea)

(AllHipHop Rumors) Lil Wayne is one of rap’s most entertaining figures of all time. The New Orleans rapper was once seriously coined the “Best Rapper Alive” and the title was fitting.

Wayne has been working through legal woes for much of the past five years. Cash Money Records, Wayne and Universal Music have been in court battling for funds Lil Wayne and camp claim they were owed.

While the court proceedings are still ongoing, Wayne and Birdman reconnected recently. The duo was seen hugging on stage at a Florida nightclub. The embrace was seen as a sign of two of Cash Money Records most memorable figures putting their differences aside.

Recently Birdman was spotted at STORY Nightclub in Miami watching again, as Lil Wayne performed his set on stage. Wayne and Birdman seem to be seriously reconnecting, but is this the beginning of a new era for Cash Money Records?

Has The Music Business Crushed This New Rapper’s Soul?

By: Rico Panacea (@RicoPanacea)

(AllHipHop Rumors) Rapper Denzel Curry is an artist known for his lyrical prowess. The Florida born MC has been making waves in the Hip-Hop community since 2013.

Recently the rapper announced that he would be taking a break from creating new music, effectively immediately.

Denzel Curry took to Twitter and Instagram to announce the upcoming hiatus.

The break has been said to be a mental health break by the rapper. No immediate return dates has been set by Curry, who recently toured with A$AP Ferg.

He continued and released a follow-up message that simply said “Bye.”

Denzel Curry would later explain the Twitter messages to concerned fans on Instagram.

“I’m sorry everyone I know I always delete my post and I go through my moods with making music and trying to talk to each and everyone of you the truth is I feel weird about a lot of things and trying to give people answers to solutions when I’m still learning myself I always focus on the negative when I shouldn’t my biggest fear is not letting myself my fans and my family down I know you guys only want me to release music and you will receive it but as of now I’m not f###### with anything at the moment.,” said Denzel Curry.”

I’m not sure exactly what’s going on with Denzel Curry, but it sucks to see a young talent go through these things.

Hopefully he gets the help he needs during this mental health break and he’s able to recover.

T.I. Has More Words For Lil Xan And His Criticism Of Tupac

(AllHipHop News) When Waka Flocka publicly “banned” Lil Xan from Hip Hop for saying Tupac Shakur had little clout and boring music, fellow Atlanta resident T.I. was quick to co-sign Waka’s edict directed at the 21-year-old also known as Diego. Recently, Tip further discussed why he takes issue with rap newcomers disrespecting icons.

“Right now, you have people discussing other people who haven’t gone through these necessary steps that they’ve gone through, and you are critiquing their work when you ain’t really walk their path,” T.I. told MTV. “So this guy Lil Xan, he’s just never really taken the time out to, he’s not aware of how much work actually went into making it where Pac made it, where B.I.G. made it.”

Lil Xan has spent the last few weeks doing an about-face on his Tupac statements. He called the late California emcee a “legend,” wore a 2Pac t-shirt, and played the classic hit “California Love” at one of his shows.

As for T.I., the Hustle Gang leader is currently promoting the upcoming Netflix docuseries Rapture. The program highlights Tip’s career as well as the life stories of several other Hip Hop stars, including Nas, Dave East, Rapsody, and A Boogie wit da Hoodie.

After Getting Slammed, Killer Mike Backtracks On Doing NRA Interview

(AllHipHop News) Over the weekend, Killer Mike was the target of a lot of online backlash. The Run The Jewels member caught heat for statements he made during a sit down with the controversial firearm lobbying group the National Rifle Association.

The video interview was posted on the same day as the youth-led, international gun reform march called Fight For Our Lives. Mike’s comments from the conversation were used by some conservative media outlets to discredit the young people that organized the rallies.

Killer Mike was also chastised for even speaking with the NRA because some critics view the organization as a supporter of white supremacy. After spending days defending his decision to do the interview, the Atlanta-raised rapper/activist apologized to the Fight For Our Lives attendees and his 307,000 Twitter followers.

“I’m sorry guys. I’m sorry that an interview I did about a minority – black people in this country and gun rights -was used as a weapon against you guys. That was unfair to you. It was wrong and disparaged some very noble work you’re doing,” said Mike. His RTJ comrade El-P released a statement about the situation as well.

#AHHPowerfulWomen: Jamila Mustafa Is The Next Level Of Media

By Akanke Jackson

(AllHipHop Features) With a name like Mustafa, you have to learn how to be a beast. Jamila Mustafa is an award-winning broadcast journalist from Wilmington, Delaware. Growing up as a child Jamila hated her name because it was foreign. With Jamila meaning “Beautiful” and Mustafa meaning “the chosen one”, she had no idea how worthy her name really is. Jamila started to embrace her name during a class trip to China where she first started realizing why her ancestors created that name. Her parents were so impressed with her natural talent they decided to hire an agent to help build her career. After taking many trips to the Big Apple Jamila finally landed a deal on a hit Fox a television series called “The Philadelphia Eagles Kids Club” the show lasted for three long seasons. With having many talents such as acting, dancing and extreme karate fighting she was destined to become a household name. Confidence and poise have gained Jamila to be featured on Black HBCUBuzz 30 under 30, BET 30 under 30, Young Black and LIT, plus many more. Her goal as an entertainer is to be receiving an Oscar than covering the show.

Ms. Mustafa has made history leading a tour for NBC’s “Hall of Fame Tour” as the youngest headliner ever! After denying her request the first year in 2016, she came back again in 2017 demanding that she is what the tour needs. She toured colleges such as Alabama State University, Bethune Cookman University, and Texas Southern University. During her tour, she raised scholarship money for each school in hopes of spreading knowledge and unity among each other. Her goal is to raise enough money in the school to help pay for their new equipment in order for the students to express themselves.

Jamila’s infamous quote “I am aiming to be significant and not famous” came about when she met Oprah Winfrey. Her mother kept an old news article which called Jamila to be the prophet of her generation. As others would have given anything to meet the Daytime Queen herself, it would be opposite for Jamila. She claims to not know who the legend is, it wasn’t until she did her research that she got a peek into Oprah’s career. The first time she met Ms. Winfrey she had her pen and paper ready. Jamila claims everything she heard Oprah say was very unexpected “she was so before her time, she gave me 3 quotes that I still use today.”

1.) Be true to who you are. 2.) Be successful for something 3.) Always do the right thing

But for young Mustafa she was caught off guard with the simple quotes, she had no idea how these steps could make her an icon. Winfrey’s easy yet complex phrases have help guide Mustafa as a young entrepreneur.

To determine whether your life is a prophecy you have to have a defined feeling of the social world and events to come. A journalist back in 2007, claimed that Jamila will be a star. Here’s an actual quote from the article “Jamila Mustafa on kids Eagle TV show—one day she’s going to be so famous she’s going to hire her family to work for her—she’s going to be a household name.” Growing up in Wilmington, Delaware the options of having a role model was limited. Often she had to use her imagination of what her life would be like if she came from a big city. Which wasn’t hard for the child star, her confidence is shown through her actions, which has intimidated her competition. Her imagination often came to play when she entered competitions in her tween years. Throughout her life journey she’s been a keen player, taking the crown home five times as Delaware’s very own pageant Queen. Mustafa has destroyed the competition when she ran for Ms. Delaware State University. But her success didn’t come from winning the crown, it came when she was able to voice the problems of Black Colleges everywhere not having enough earnings for their scholars. She conquered the dreams of so many little girls around the nation, that she knew many of her competitors wondered why Jamila? And Jamila response is “what’s for me is for me.”

With a mouth as powerful Sojourner Truth, with a mind like Oprah Winfrey, and a fight like Malcolm X, how can she fail? Her journey through life is nothing less of resistant. Every loss she has taken has been a lesson, every step she has taken has been a blessing, and when true talent walks into the room everyone becomes obsolete. The leader of the millennial generation has so many plans for the next year and we can’t wait to watch her grow. It was an honor for us to converse with the next Queen of the Jungle for Women’s History Month, here are some additional questions we asked Jamila:

AllHipHop: During Women’s History Month who do you admire the most?

I would have to say, my mother because she’s the one who encourages me the most throughout my life.

AllHipHop: Does it frustrate you when you see people acting as though they can do your talent.

I think of it as, everyone has their own destiny, I can’t allow myself to get upset if someone has the job I want, I just push myself harder the next time.

AllHipHop: What do you prefer to read as a journalist?

I read books that will make me think, I like to be able to challenge myself as a journalist.

AllHipHop: How do you manage your personal life and your career?

My personal life is my career, all of my friends are in media too. I always plan my time away from work, weeks in advance so I can be with family.

AllHipHop: What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?

I love that all my co-workers are different in their own way. I love how throughout the day there are last minute changes that I can adjust to.

UHHHHH: 6ix9ine And Akademiks Vacation Together

(AllHipHop Rumors) This is just weird. I am thinking that these guy are more than rapper and interviewer. DJ Akademiks is an employee of the Complex Media world, which is all-good. And Tekashi69 is probably the most talked about rapper around today. In the media diaspora, there has been a less egregious overt blending of journalist (if you can call dude that) and artist. We know they overlap a lot, but this is crazy! AK and Tekashi went on vacation and….not a girl in sight. Just weird!

And then, then he went swimming with a hat on like he’s LL Cool J.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BguYtowgCB3/

And why do they keep trying to call 69 a “kid” at the age of 21? That’s a man. Me thinks they trying to evoke some sympathy from those wolves. Because, the wolves are out there…

Kanye Employee Airlifted To Hospital After Horrific Accident At Office

(AllHipHop News) A member of staff at Kanye West’s offices in Los Angeles has reportedly been airlifted to hospital after severely injuring his leg.

A man was transporting a heavy piece of machinery at the Calabasas Tech Center when it fell over and landed on his foot.

The man was stuck under the equipment for several minutes, and it reportedly took at least seven people to lift it and remove his foot.

Law enforcement sources said that they responded to a call about the incident, and confirmed his injury was so bad it required airlift transport for emergency medical care.

A representative for the Life of Pablo rapper has yet to comment on the report.

Killer Mike, DJ Paul Want You To Leave Their Guns Alone

(AllHipHop News) The March For Our Lives in Washington went down yesterday, with tens of thousands of students rallying in support of stricter laws regarding gun ownership.

Rappers like Common, Vic Mensa, Kanye West and even Snoop Dogg rallied in support of the idea.

However, two well-known rap stars took an opposite stance as the marches took place.

Run The Jewels group member Killer Mike dropped a PSA with the NRA supporting gun ownership.

In fact, in a segment titled “The March to Less Freedom,” Killer Mike told NRA TV that he actually made his daughter undergo firearms training, after a 2017 shooting at Savannah State University, where she is a student.

“We are a gun-owning family. We are a family where my sister farms,” Killer Mike said. “We are a family where we’ll fish, we’ll hunt, but we are not a family that jumps on every single thing an ally of ours does because some stuff we just do not agree with.”

DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia echoed Killer Mike’s concerns, however, Paul seemed more ready for the apocalypse than another school shooting.

The Oscar Award winning artist referenced an old episode of 20/20 which aired in 2007.

In the segment, a guest predicted America would run out of money for homeland security within 20 years.

“They just need to be more safer in who they giving these motherf##kers too,” DJ Paul said. “But we need assault rifles, cause it’s some s##t about to go down here. They better keep them f##king assault rifles out here cause it’s all we gonna have to use to protect ourselves from them other f##king countries.”

Like DJ Paul, Killer Mike also envisioned a bad future for the United States and African Americans in particular, if stricter rules are placed upon the Second Amendment, which gives Americans the Constitutional right to bear arms.

“You’re gonna progress us into slavery. People say slavery can’t exist. Slavery does exist now,” Killer Mike predicted. “Slavery exists, according to the 13th Amendment. The same people who are telling you we need to abolish the Second Amendment, they ain’t there for the documentary ’13th.’ They aren’t there to march to end that.”

Meanwhile, students at the March For Our Lives had a message for the NRA and their supporters.

OH NO! Offset And Cardi B Have More Relationship & Baby Drama!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Offset and Cardi B have had more up and downs than a Great Adventures roller coaster! Damn! I thought they were in the clear, but today, the hammer DROPPED HEAVY!

The chick Xo Celina is back with a vengeance and has had her baby.

Now, before I continue, I have to say something. I thought this XO chick was a big deal but she has less Twitter followers than me and I ain’t tweeted in YEARS! She also just got on Twitter a couple years ago. All this drama and only a few thousand followers? OK. Anyway, it just seems like a mess. I think Cardi B is a cool chick. Hoping she is ok. Drama is drama is drama. Check out the tweets.

What say you?

IS Blac Youngsta In Trouble With The Law Again?

(AllHipHop Rumors) There is a rumor in circulation that suggests strongly that Blac Youngsta has been arrested. Again. Remember, homie has an open case related to a shooting with Young Dolph. Remember that? Blac Youngsta is so funny too. Anyway, the dude is facing some time in jail – six counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property and one count of felony conspiracy. Remember, Young Dolph and those 100 rounds shot at him? Yep. Anyway, sources say a few hours ago, word got out that Blac and some of the homies were arrested. In Ohio, they are saying that guns were found. There is not much out there, but this is a strong rumor and there seems to be a lot of guns found.

Why do these guys want to get in trouble as opposed to chill with chicks and smoke their stuff?

I mean, Blac is just goofy a lot of the time.

And he has money.
