Iggy Azalea Is Engaged To Boyfriend Nick Young

Iggy Azalea is going to be getting married.

The rapper was engaged to her longtime boyfriend Nick “Swaggy P” Young at his 30th birthday party on June 1.

The couple were surrounded by her closest friends and family, according to reports.

“It was a beautiful celebration for Nick with only his close friends and family,” a source told E! News. “Nick completely surprised Iggy with the proposal. She was shocked and so excited and emotional at the same time.

“Nick has known for a long time Iggy was the one for him, but he was just waiting on the perfect time to pop the question,” the source adds. “They both have gotten very close these passed few months and he can’t think of anyone else to spend his life with but her. One of the most important things about Iggy is the way she is to his son.”

Recently, Iggy called off a tour of the United States. This certainly allows her to focus on her personal life.

Black Lives Matter or Black Life Matters?

Black Lives Matter, But More Importantly…

Recently, the chant of black people in response to the unwarranted, unjustified and downright unacceptable deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of unlawful officers have become “Black Lives Matter.” We’ve seen the handwritten signage adorned by hands of different colors all across this country and abroad. We’ve heard the chant turn into a roar and the roar into a rant. It’s a proclamation of sorts, “Black Lives Matter.” Which they do. But I challenge us to make a change to that statement which would ultimately change who we are and who people perceive us to be.

Black lives matter, but more importantly, black “life” matters. Now before you nonchalantly attempt to dismiss my suggestive statement as if it means the same thing or that it’s so miniscule of a change that it doesn’t mean anything different at all, consider what I’m saying. Black “Life” Matters. Repeat it again, Black “Life” Matters. And yet again, Black “Life” Matters.

Black lives matter is completely different from black life matters and it provokes a different sense of responsibility. Maybe it’s just me, but when I hear “black lives matter” it sounds as if we’re trying to convince others that we should matter to them. And if we mattered to them, they’d be more thoughtful, considerate and conscious of their approach, dealings and interactions with us. They’d see us in a different perspective, a different light. “Black Lives Matter” sounds like a demonstrative response to actions by others who have denigrated the lives of black people, most of whom we don’t even know personally. The onus is purposely and intentionally shifted to someone other than who the focus should be on. “Black Lives Matter” encompasses a lot, but nothing at the same time, because it’s a broad statement with no specificity or clear inclination on exactly whose life matters. Are we only referring to the lives that’s been lost at the hands of rogue police officers? Are we talking about the lives cut short by the hands of other black people? Are we also talking about the children we abort?

If “Black Life Matters” then that would incorporate all black people, our culture, our past, present and future, our ancestors, the preservation of our history, our neighborhoods, our communities, our schools, our children, our elders, our incarcerated brothers and sisters, our people victimized by societal ills, the sick, the forgotten, “unborn” embryos, all black life, starting with one, your very own. That would allow us to address our critical issues from an individualistic, but ultimately, cohesive perspective.

You see, as my Pastor PM Smith always says, “you change the world one mind, one heart, one life, one home, one community and one nation at a time.” It’s way more deep than just the plurality and singular usage of the word when it comes to Black “Lives” Matter versus Black “Life” Matters. It’s much deeper than just a slogan or a soundbite or even a trademark that one can screen-print onto tee shirts and make a profit from selling to the people who are supposed to matter. Black “Life” Matters is an affirmation that requires you to act as if you believe it to be true. Black “Life” Matters is a personal statement and testament. And once we start to believe and exhibit truly that Black “Life” Matters we will no longer have to spend countless hours trying to convince others that our lives are valuable. #blacklifematters

Doctor Says Kanye West’s Cousin Is Responsible For His Mother’s Death

The doctor who was blamed for Kanye West’s mother’s death is hoping that his name can finally be cleared. Dr. Jan Adams said that it was in fact West’s cousin, Stephan Scoggins, whose negligence once Dr. Donda West left the hospital led to her death, according to the New York Daily News.

“Most people that I run into think she died on the table, they don’t even know this lady was home for a day,” Adams told the News. “The truth hasn’t been revealed.”

Adams said that Scoggins, a registered nurse with a Ph.D in public health, cared for Dr. West after she left the hospital after her liposuction, breast reduction and tummy-tuck surgery, even though Adams recommended that she  receive care at a private recovery center.

Adams claimed that Scoggins left Dr. West with friends who were not qualified to take care of her, did not hook up the patient monitors in her bedroom and did not answer calls when Dr. West needed to be tended to.

Dr. West was also took 20 Vicodins for pain and choked on her own vomit after laying flat in her bed. She died on Nov. 10th, 2007 and the coroner’s report stated that medication used for pain and vomit were contributing factors to her death.

When confronted about the allegations, Scoggins told the Daily News that “it is absolutely not the case.”

Kanye West has not commented on any of these claims.

Was Lil’ Mama Fair To The “Sausage” Creator?

Photo via Lil’ Mama’s Instagram

Lil’ Mama made a lot of noise with the release of her new “Sausage” video, but some of it wasn’t praise. Some have accused Lil’ Mama of being a culture vulture for stealing the very popular “Sausage” song created by Matthew Belamy from Miami. Belamy has opened up to tell his side of the story. According to Belamy, Lil’ Mama reached out to him acknowledging him as the creator of the song and inviting him to be a part of the video shoot. Lil’ Mama allegedly invited him to New York for the shoot. When Belamy said he couldn’t afford it, Lil’ Mama allegedly told him to look up two Greyhound tickets. Not Greyhound though.

EXCLUSIVE: Drew Mantia Discusses New Album “Feel Good Music” + Premieres New Single “No Lie” Featuring ProbCause

Producer, engineer, instrumentalist – these are all labels on the résumé of St Louis raised, Chicago based artist Drew Mantia. The self-described “one-man-band” parlayed his formal musical training at Webster University into a production career that includes time working with Chance The Rapper, Twista, and more.

On June 15, Mantia is dropping his full length album Feel Good Music. The collection includes the cuts “Good Day,” “Send It Back,” and “Kill Yo Ass.” The 24-year-old’s LP will also feature the ProbCause assisted single “No Lie.” The song was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Mantia.

Drew Mantia connected with AllHipHop.com to premiere the laid back track laced with Prob’s rapid fire rhymes and additional vocals by Brittany Lee Moffitt. The multi-genre wiz kid also gave insight into how “No Lie” came together, the Hip Hop scene in the Windy City, and the variety of themes presented on his Feel Good Music album.

Who are some of your producing influences?

Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Timbaland, Kanye West, Steve Jordan, Daft Punk, and Kimbra.

You mix and engineer all of your own music as well. How does having those technical abilities impact your work when producing an artist’s vocal performance?

I’ll make suggestions to adjust their vocal tone, so it’s sounding out of their mouth closer to how I hear it mixed in my head. The good technical vocal performances I want as an engineer tend to also be the captivating and energetic performances I want as a producer.

You’ve had the chance to work with some of Chicago’s biggest rap stars like Twista and Chance The Rapper. What’s the creative energy like in the city at the moment?

Good vibes alongside hard work and opportunity. I know myself and the people I’m working with are having a great time and feeling as creative as we ever have. We also have confidence that if we do great work it will get heard. If you’re making good music in the Chicago Hip Hop scene, there’s a lot of opportunity for you right now.

Are there any particular artists that you haven’t worked with yet that you would like to hear on your production?

Mick Jenkins, Joey Purp, Noname Gypsy, and Eryn Allen Kane.

What was it about the track for “No Lie” that led you to get ProbCause to add verses?

I gave him a pack of demos for his new album and he picked that beat. It’s straight up a song I produced for his album. We later decided it added something more special inside the context of Feel Good Music than it did on the ProbCause album.

Plus, there was no shortage of my production and solid material on his album, so he could let me grab it. A few of the tracks were born that way, recorded originally for the artist’s album. So you know they gave me good bars. [laughs]

The title is kind of self-explanatory, but what can listeners expect from the Feel Good Music album?

A lot of featured vocals. Expect it to deliver on what the title implies, but it’s not a one-trick-pony, there are surprises coming. It’s a big ask these days, but give it a beginning-to-end listen and you’ll be surprised and feel good. Expect to possibly ask yourself on a few moments though, “This is feel good?”

The first singles “Send It Back” and “Good Day” are all “good times, we’re feeling great.” The next single “Kill Yo Ass” had some darkness to it. Even “No Lie” to some degree. I wanted more song content than the obvious lyrics “Feel Good Music” evokes.

Stevie Wonder made anti-war songs that feel good, sad songs, songs about evil that feel good, along with all the love songs. It’s about the feeling it gives you, not necessarily the content of the song. So expect to definitely feel good, but expect a little more range than what “Feel Good Music” may imply.
