Anti-Action Bronson Protest Pops Up In Canada

Action Bronson joins the list of rappers like Tyga that have been the subject of protests and petitions for their lyrical content.

This time the New York-based rapper has been targeted by over 25,000 people that don’t want to see him perform at Toronto’s NXNE festival in June. Click here to see the online boycott.

The protest, started by a woman named Erica Shiner, states the following:

We urge you to stop your support for Action Bronson performing at Yonge and Dundas Square as part of the NXNE music festival on June 21st 2015. The content of his music glorifies raping and murdering women. It is completely inappropriate that an artist like this be hosted at a venue owned and operated by the City of Toronto, as part of a festival which is funded by various levels of government. It demonstrates that NXNE, the City of Toronto, and Vans Footwear turn a blind eye to rape culture and violence against women. He should not be given a voice through the support of any of the aforementioned groups.

Please refer to the petition for a sample of his content and some personal messages from others who have signed the petition.
The petition specifically cites songs “Consensual Rape” and a video where Bronson eats his meal off a dead woman before rolling her up in a carpet.

Bronson fired back on social media and blasted his “haters” in a fashion fans are accustomed it.

NXNE organizers released their own statement in support of Action Bronsom:

On Tuesday, May 26 a group of concerned Torontonians created a petition to remove Action Bronson from NXNE’s lineup on Sunday, June 21 at Yonge-Dundas Square. The petition has spawned a passionate online discussion. The Festival would like to address this topic.

Action Bronson performed at Yonge-Dundas Square as part of NXNE in 2012 with Killer Mike, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah. It was a positive concert that was described by reviewers as “laid back”, “a lot of fun” and a “world class hip-hop showcase”. NXNE is confident the lineup on June 21 at Yonge-Dundas Square will make for another enjoyable day of music in a public space.

“NXNE will also present a number of rap artists at various venues, such as Tink and Kate Tempest, who have be lauded for the undisguised feminist viewpoints in their music.” says Sara Peel, Managing Director of NXNE. ” “That being said, in the interest of moving forward in a positive manner, we are engaging in discussion with our community about this important issue, and looking to provide opportunities for concerned voices to be heard.”

NXNE believes each and every one of these artists have the right to express their views through music, but those views belong to them and them alone. Those who are offended by an artist are invited to check out other Festival showcases, as NXNE will present hundreds of artists this June – some may be considered controversial, but most are just plain fun.

Bronson is also receiving support from fans and a counter-petition has been launched to “stop feminist extremists from censoring Action Bronson’s free speech and his performance at NXNE.”

EXCLUSIVE: Turk Subpoenas Universal Music Group In Lawsuit Against Cash Money

Turk is now seeking information from Cash Money’s parent company Universal Music Group to help determine how much he should be rewarded from the suit.

According to a source with firsthand knowledge of the case, Turk’s legal team has issued subpoenas to UMG and Universal Music Publishing Group in order to get access to accounting on the artists’ master recordings and publishing connected to Cash Money.

In the original court documents, Turk requested at least $1.3 million, but the judge could award him a higher amount. It is suspected Cash Money owes Turk payments regarding over 100 recordings with the imprint. The parties are scheduled to return to court in July.

Between 1997 and 2001, Turk released several singles as a member of Cash Money’s Hot Boys including “We On Fire” and “I Need A Hot Girl.” It is estimated the group has sold over 2 million albums to date.

As a solo artist, Turk released his debut studio album Young & Thuggin’ via Cash Money. He also appeared on records by other CMR acts Juvenile, Lil Wayne, and Big Tymers.

AllHipHop.com contacted representatives of Universal Music Group and Universal Music Publishing Group. As of press time, UMG declined to comment and UMPG has not responded to the matter. Turk and his attorney Patrick Costello declined to comment on this story.

Star Music Ft. Jaeson Green – “48/14”

Dallas, Texas artist Star Music has been releasing music at a rapid pace as of late, and nothing describes his grind as much as the title of his brand new video, “48/14”. The Stack Moses directed visuals play out more like a movie than your typical music video, with the Lone Star State emcee doing big business, avoiding the cops, and handling high stress situations with the mind state of a boss. The message here is simple; eat or die. It’s a no-sleep-for-the-weary lifestyle and nobody understands this more than Star himself. After doing shows with Nipsey Hussle, Royce Da 5’9 and going on a Texas tour with Curren$yand Jet Life for “Pilot Talk 3”, he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. His album “When Stars Align” is available on iTunes now.

Jayd Ink – “At.Lanta”

While she may be from above the border, Toronto singer/songwriter Jayd Ink has an “At.Lanta” mind state on her latest release of the same name. The songstress brings her sensual touch to the K. Thompson & Jaquebeatz produced single, slowing things down as she touches on that vacation lifestyle that has her feeling so amazing. As she lays her stake in the game, proclaiming “I do what I want, when I want”, one might have to think there’s nothing that is going to get between her and the very top of this industry. We’ll soon find out as Jayd has many more releases up her sleeve, with her upcoming project “Invitation Only”, coming soon.

Quinnshawn Damar Ft. Rashaun – “Ballin”

Living a life of luxury is a common goal for most, and Rockford’s own Quinnshawn Baker stakes his claim in the race to be on top as he drops off his ode to the money, “Ballin’. The young singer tells tales of how he spends his riches and wine and dines that special someone of the opposite sex, all while keeping it 100 percent true to himself. This one lives over a Beattboii & Wizzdom Beats production that makes it easy for Quinnshawn to harmonize over, with fellow Rockford native Rashaun handling features duties, just the same. While there is no home for this as of yet, the highly anticipated single is sure to leave a mark in the game and keep everyone wanting to hear more from the talented musician.

Are the mother of Chris Brown’s daughter, Nia Guzman, and her boyfriend King Ba blowing Breezy’s money, or are they doing well? Seeing how Guzman is requesting $15,000 a month in child support from Brown, it may not have been a good idea to post a video of baby Royalty playing with money.
