Nikko Lafre Ft. Johnny Rain – “TTINM”

The sensitive new offering lives on Nikko Lafré’s forthcoming EP titled, ‘Troubled Soul: Blame The City’, which will be released independently through Nikko’s newly launched imprint label the GOLDROSE COLLECTIVE. The record is sure to bring awareness where it’s due as Nikko’ touches on current race relations in the United States from the view of the urban youth. The twenty year old has made quite a name for himself and it seems as though after his upcoming project he will no longer be under the radars of anyone as he continues to branch out as a star. Word has it that the young artist has a few surprises on the tape and through some digging and research we have found out that DJ SKEE will be playing a special role on the project. It seems as though Minnesota is officially on the map….

Over the last fifteen years the super producer has curated a musical legacy, his touch proven to urbanize pop music and bring mainstream success to urban music.

Polow believes his unique ability proves that music essentially has no boundaries or genre, and that hit records are driven by one thing, creative innovation. He partnered with femme deejay Siobhan Bell on his latest release “Pay Me” via IAMMIAMI. “This record is about women being in control of their image, not only their sexuality, but their freedom of expression. The partnership with Siobhan was perfect because it’s about women being in control in a male-dominated business,” said Polow.

London born and bred- Siobhan Bell, DJ/producer has been making waves since 2010 across the world taking New York, Paris and Amsterdam in her stride. Her selections cover a wide range of genres, from nostalgic R&B remixes to Trap, Grime and Jersey Club. Her sets breed an infectious energy it is impossible to avoid at least a hard head nod when hearing the massive sounds played by this petite power-house.

Polow’s latest venture is a new label deal from LA Reid’s recharged Epic Records. Polow is excited about changing the scope of music and believes this project is going to be trendsetting on a different dimension.

“Pay Me” is a female anthem for the club. It allows women to say how they really feel under the disguise of a party record,” Polow explains,”it has an old school Miami feel to it, its fun.”

50 Cent Says Jeremih Will Fight Anyone Over Basketball

Photo via 50 Cent’s Instagram

Chris Brown just can’t stay out of trouble, but apparently Jeremih isn’t so innocent either. Apparently Chris Brown and Jeremih got into a scuffle in Vegas after playing against each other in basketball. 50 Cent basically said this isn’t surprising news for Jeremih as he said,

“Jeremih will fight anybody over a basketball game. He was gonna fight Floyd one night at the 24 hour fitness.”

Let’s not forget Brown just got off probation in March for the attack on his ex- girlfriend Rihanna. He has also been involved in an altercation with Frank Ocean, was arrested for assaulting a man in Washington, DC, and his bottle throwing incident with Drake. It seems like Jeremih likes to throw bottles as well as him and his entourage were caught throwing bottles inside a Fuddruckers. That’s that Chicago in Jeremih. LOL.

Beyonce’s loyal and crazy fans known as the BEYHIVE went after Kim Kardashian last night when Kim K hit the red carpet of the Met Gala wearing a dress that was strikingly similar to the dress Beyonce wore to the 2012 Met Gala. Kim wasted no time trying to convince people that the dress was not inspired by Beyonce, but instead inspired by Cher. We are undecided. Hmmmm Kim we may give you a pass.

Christina Milian’s New Song Was Inspired By Relationship With Lil’ Wayne

Photo by Kevin Winter/ Getty Images

Christina Milian seems to still be blushing and gushing with pride for her boo Lil’ Wayne. Her new song “Rebel” seems to be inspired by Weezy. Milian told Entertainment Tonight:

“It’s safe to say it is about the man in my life, yes,” she confessed. “There’s nothing better than that feeling of new chemistry when you’re so into someone and you could care less about what anyone else thinks… and there’s butterflies!”

“For me, I’m so inspired by the relationship that I’m in that it’s definitely an experience,” she shared. “It’s that careless, hopeless, romantic love — that feeling of ‘I will do anything for you’ and it’s just incredible and so yeah, ‘rebel for you’ means ‘I’m all about you.’”

Their relationship is still weird as she was once married to and has a child by The-Dream, who was previously married to Wayne’s ex Nivea. It’s too many women out here for Lil’ Wayne to date his son’s mother’s ex-husband’s girl. But that’s none of our business. LOL.

Scotty ATL – “Cloud IX”

Scotty ATL is one of Atlanta’s rising stars and it’s pretty evident in this new Rashid directed video for “Cloud IX (Go Up)”. Produced by DJ Toomp, “Cloud IX” appeared on both Scotty’s Traffic Jamz and Spaghetti Junction mixtapes so needless to say it’s a fan favorite.

All Def Digital Talks To OverDoz

OverDoz is a West Coast crew comprised of four friends:  Joon, Creamie, Kent “Jamz,” and P.  They’ve been in the game a minute, and have dropped some recent bangers, including the trap-heavy “F*ck Yo DJ,” featuring an assist from Harlem’s A$AP Ferg.  “We just started kicking it and making music.  I can’t really say no times where we made wack songs,” one member says.  Maybe that’s why they got a call from super producer Pharrell, who was rapping their lyrics.  After catching his attention, the group met with every label before settling on RCA, and they’re currently working on their debut project, dropping soon.

Young Money Yawn – “Clara Mae Jones”

Virginia rising star, Young Money Yawn, drops the official video for “Clara Mae Jones” which served as the intro to his Street Gospel 2 mixtape. DJ Drama, who does not appear in the video, is also featured, talking his sh*t and dropping classic punchlines. The “Clara Mae Jones” video was directed by Vernon Williams.

Temperature’s Rising: Jelani Lateef

As one ages, a lot of things happen. First off, a night of drinking cannot be easily washed away with a Vitamin Water Revive and a few tabs of Ibuprofen like in the old days. Don’t get me started on the early morning pains in places that I don’t even know existed before. Also, as you can tell, one is more prone more to rambling. With years fleeting, it’s important to speak as much as possible, because once I reach my casket, I will be permanently silenced. But all rambling aside, as a music critic, I find my tastes rapidly expanding as the years go by. Don’t get me wrong, I love going to the club and hearing the latest Future/Young Thug/Rich Homie Quan jam and temporarily forgetting my responsibilities, regardless of the heavy price I have to pay in the morning. But with all that said, these days I like a little more substance in my music. Enter Jelani Lateef.

Let’s start with the mathematics of what got Jelani into the rap game in the first place. Born and raised in Chicago, IL, Jelani Lateef aka J Fury has a music career spanning more than 12 years. Best known for his thought provoking lyrics and witty wordplay, Jelani has been a mainstay in the Chicago rap community. He has now expanded from simply being a rapper to a producer and CEO.

In 2010, the mother of his daughter died of cancer, leaving him a single parent. After recovering from this traumatic and life changing experience, Jelani started Manhood Ent. The idea was to create a brand that represented men stepping to the plate and handling responsibility. The mission statement for the company is: “Striving to be a popular source of music and entertainment, while portraying men in a positive, powerful and inspirational light”. In addition to making music, Jelani has committed endless hours to outreach and mentoring young men and women, in hopes of inspiring them to lead a positive and productive lifestyle.

Since forming the company, Jelani has released two projects, “My Soul to Keep” and “My Soul to Keep 2”. Both projects were well received, garnishing positive reviews. With a new album on the way, Jelani Lateef is continuing his momentum and adding to his rapidly growing fan base.

Whereas other rappers stare out of their window and scribble their life, Jelani clearly has lived though a lot and has no shame in sharing his innermost thoughts with the public. Take “Book Of Life” for instance, from Cold Days and Dark Nights, Jelani recounts the myriad reasons why he is propelled to make music in the first place. The thing I found most compelling about Jelani is how he fuses braggadocio with unabashed real-talk. On tracks like “Can’t Stop Now,” he appears at once confident but regretful of the mistakes that he has made on the road to success.

It’s tempting to lose ourselves in illusory worlds about truffle butter and what not, but it’s difficult to pay attention to an artist like Jelani who’s everyman delivery makes it easy to relate to one’s own personal experiences. We need more artists like Jelani, so make sure to track his movements on the interwebs. Also, you can stream his entire Cold Days and Dark Nights LP below.

Chris Brown Reportedly Involved In Fight With Jeremih

(AllHipHop News) Chris Brown’s trip to Las Vegas seems to have been a tough one. News broke yesterday that CB is a suspect in a battery case after a fight during a basketball game. According to ThisIs50, Brown’s Vegas weekend included a scuffle with fellow R&B singer Jeremih.

It is not clear if the two alleged incidents are related, but the supposed Chris-Jeremih brawl took place after the two were playing against each other in basketball. The site writes:

We’re told that Jeremih and Breezy were playing a basketball game and since Jeremih won the first game the “These Hoes Ain’t Loyal” singer asked for a rematch .. things then got heated and the 2 camps went at it.

Brown just got off probation in March for the 2009 attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna. He has also been involved in an altercation with Frank Ocean, and he was arrested for assaulting a man in Washington, DC.

Jeremih has had legal issues as well. The “Planes” performer and his entourage were caught on video throwing bottles inside a Montana Fuddruckers. Jeremih claimed the restaurant’s employees were being racist towards him and his party.

Fitz- She’s My Music

fitzsweater

I know what you’re thinking. Another rapper from New York. If you’re anything like me, whenever you hear the preceding phrase, you automatically recoil in horror. Most often these movements are involuntary, and have something to do with a slew of New York rappers that generate a lot of buzz in the beginning but end never making it past a couple thousand views on DatPiff. Even though New York is the birthplace of this music we love, the lack of innovation in recent years have sidelined a once proud coast. Metaphors and punchlines can only get you so far in 2015 (unless you are Styles P, Fab, or Jadakiss)– there has to be substance to the music these days, or at least versatility.

Speaking of versatility, I haven’t heard much from Fitz, but he seems to inherently understand this principle. Fitz is a rapper from Brooklyn, NY who uses his charismatic and romantic personality and fuses it with his music. He performed for many venues including the 2013 Panama Day Parade, NYC Coat Drive events, and Concrete Temple Fundraisers. With his music, he hopes to help people enjoy life and love through his witty and “out-of-the-box” banter.

Notice, no trigger talk. No talk of officers in unmarked cars. No huge reliance on the sound of another coast to make the music accessible to the masses. The reason why I chose to pen this article about Fitz is largely due to the reasons above, but it is refreshing when an MC is less concerned about oozing cool rather than crafting material that audiences can relate to. You can check out Fitz’s latest single for “She’s My Music” and make sure to track his movements on the interwebs.
