End Police Brutality: AllHipHop Hits The Streets

The beast known as police brutality is not some sort of monster that was created by the media or Black people. There is a legacy of abuse by those in power that goes back to America’s beginnings. Unlike other acts of domestic terror, police brutality that results in the death of an unarmed person of color occurs about every 28 hours, according to a 2013 study. Black people were nearly 3x more likely than whites to be killed by police in 2014, per mappingpoliceviolence.org. In March of 2015, there were 36 Black people killed by police, which equals about 1 death per 21 hours and the trend appears to be increasing steadily. These studies only relay actual deaths, not harassment, racial profiling, beatings or other systemic injustices. AllHipHop joined forces with photographer extraordinaire Jean-Andre Antoine to chronicle #ShutItDown march that took place on April 14 in across New York City. “I don’t even deserve a Jay Z feature ,” he told host Marc Lamont Hill, “’cause I ain’t go gold or platinum. To me, you can’t work with a gold or platinum artist if you haven’t [gone] gold or platinum — even though I can still bring a crowd bigger than probably 90 percent of the gold and platinum artists. When I say gold and platinum I mean they’re legends, not record sales. You know what I mean? Like, what did I do to deserve a Jay Z feature or a ‘Ye feature? I gotta work for that, man.”

He went on to describe the upcoming project as “super undergroud.”

“I don’t even want radio to play it,” he said. “That’s Waka Flocka. I want it for my fans.”

Flockaveli 2 drops June 1st.  Watch his interview below to hear him chat about him EDM album, not being a celebrity and more.
