Hip-Hop Rumors: Gay Lover Duo!

OK, this is not who you think it is. I am going to annoy you with this blind item, but I am going to write it anyway. There is a Hip-Hop duo that’s on the old school tip. In the 90’s they were in separate situation – one in a rap group and the other a solo rapper. As time carried on these guys have gotten closer and worked together on the music side of life. They have toured internationally and gotten closer as friends. Now, I am hearing from eye witnesses that they were seen shopping in a department store walking hand in hand in a mall in a small town, that will remain unnamed. Now, these guys have NEVER exuded any sort of gay / homosexual tendencies in public, other than working closely together. But that’s a lot of rap groups or teams, like say Red and Meth. So these dudes got together and in a way kept each other buoyant and relevant. One is definitely more relevant than the other. Anyway, the person that saw them definitely said they were coupled up and were startled that somebody recognized them. (These are not A-listers, y’all.) They seemingly jumped away from each other, startled and disconnected their clasped hands. It was too late at that point. I want to stress, these guys have never been regarded as gay at all – EVER. They have kids and all that. It really makes you wonder how it all got started. Perplexing indeed.

That.
Is.
All.

Hip-Hop Rumors: A Baby For Remy Ma And Papoose?

These two seem to be super career minded, but they also seem to be about their relationship too. I am hearing that the cutest couple in Hip-Hop is looking to take it to the next levee. No, I don’t mean Kanye, Kim, Jay, Beyonce or Drake and ILOVEMAKONNEN! I’m taking about Remy Ma and Papoose! Yesterday, the pair performed at the 50th Anniversary of the Nation of Gods and Earths concert and Papoose randomly said something like, “I’m gonna put a baby in Remy!” for everybody to hear. I heard the audience gasped. Now, the funny thing about that is that Pap and Rem just got reunited since she came home from the bing. I’m thinking they want to hold off on the seeds this early, but you never know. They are already wearing matching track suits and all that. I think they should do it so their baby can take all the other rapper babies lunch money.

Big Pun's Mother Turned Bank Robber?

Yes, you read that correctly.

Back in late September, a 63-year old Gail Simpson was arrested on charges regarding armed robbery after robbing a Wells-Fargo in southwest Miami. It has now surfaced that the woman, is apparently the mother of the late legendary rapper, Big Pun. According to Necole Bitchie, an anonymous tip revealed that Gail Simpson and Gail Tirado are linked as the same person, both residing in the area of Bronx, NY (where Big Pun is originally from), and different parts of Florida. Prior to being arrested, she was already on probation for an attempted robbery back in June. To say the least, the rapper’s mom is expected to do some serious time.

Screen Shot 2014-10-04 at 4.32.32 PM

If this is in fact true, it’s a shame that the mother of a great and respected rapper like Pun, would have to resort to robbery. In an effort to gain financial stability, Simpson robbed two banks this year because of her family’s alleged frivolous misuse of Pun’s estate. There have also been accusations in a 2009 lawsuit from Pun’s wife, Liza Rios, against rapper, Fat Joe for currently making money off of Pun’s music, which rightfully belongs to her and her family.

The widow filed another lawsuit last month according to TMZ, where she claimed that she has not seen any of Pun’s profit since 2005. Fat Joe responded that he hasn’t made a dime off of Pun since his death. He also stated that he has legal documents to prove it. “I sympathize with Liza, but I have done already enough for her. In these economic times we as parents need to be resilient and do what it takes to provide for our own families.”

Hopefully, after everything has been settled, Pun’s entire family can land back on their feet.

Sisqo Talks Career, New Music, Altercations And More On The Breakfast Club

R&B veteran Sisqó recently stopped by Power 105’s The Breakfast Club to talk with everyone’s favorite morning show. Charlamagne, Angela Yee, and DJ Envy wasted no time asking the crooner about his infamous scuffle with a member of Jagged Edge. Sisqo added some comedy to what happened calling it a tussle and skirmish rather than a fight. He came in good spirits saying he prepared his answers for any jabs that the crew planned to throw at him.

The singer also discussed the ups and downs in his career, issues with then label Def Jam, career rumors, altercations, Dru Hill, and being a trendsetter. Sisqo stated that it was funny how things that he was ridiculed for like his blonde hair and clothing style are now the trend today. Charlamagne joked with him and asked him if he was hard to work with as people had alleged over the years. He also expressed the love and admiration that he and Dru Hill had for R&B pioneer group Jodeci by saying, “I can’t out sing K-Ci not even today. When we came out we tried our best to sound like Jodeci.” He also stated that former member Woody left the group on the set of the Wild Wild West video ( a collab with Will Smith), returned for a second and then quit again while the group was live on air doing a radio station interview. The R&B crooner also revealed that he wasn’t just the star power of the group saying that his band mate Jazz was one of the best singers on the planet. He dropped a lot of information that fans have been interested in knowing over the years, also confirming that his upcoming album The Last Dragon, would be the final piece to the Dragon trilogy. The album, which is led by the Waka Flocka assisted single “A-List,” is set to hit shelves on December 9.

Questlove Helps Support “Don’t Steal Possible” Educational Campaign Rally (PHOTOS)

New York’s Foley Square was the site of the “Don’t Steal Possible” campaign mass rally this week. The event was held to bring awareness to the education crisis in New York City. Questlove of The Roots was on hand to serve as DJ.

“I took a stand for kids education,” stated Quest. “Every child deserves a good school and a great education.”

Noted artist Greg Lamarche debuted a brand new 8 ft. x 160 mural that thousands of students helped create. In the coming weeks, Lamarche will create murals for each of the five NYC boroughs.

The event was hosted by Excellence Girls Charter School, Uncommon Schools co-director Sam Tweedy. New York State Senator Jeff Klein, Assemblyman Robert Rodriguez and Assemblyman Marcos Crespo gave speeches. The rally also featured performances by the Bronx 2 Dancers.

Over 21,000 students, parents, teachers, and supporters called for bold, urgent action to expand access to great schools. City and state leaders were pushed to provide a comprehensive, forward-thinking plan to ensure no child is stuck in a failing school.

Tank Arrested in LA; Visits Steve Harvey Morning Show To Clear The AIr

While riding around the Van Nuys section of Los Angeles, R&B singer Tank was pulled over and got himself in a bit of trouble. According to TMZ, police officers spotted the TGT singer talking on his cell phone while he was driving, which is illegal in California. When the cops asked for Tank’s license he refused to give it to them, another mistake.  He was then arrested and charged with failure to obey an officer.

Tank has since been released and went on the Steve Harvey Morning Show to set the record straight today (Oct.3). He said:

I’m minding my business. Talking on my speaker phone. Now, most time when people say ‘speaker phone’ they being lying, because they be talking on the phone. I was actually talking on my speaker phone. A bike pulled up on me with an older gentleman, and he knocks on my window. I’m stopped at a red light. He says, “Give me your license.” I say, “Why do you want that?” He says, “I need your license.” I say, “You gotta tell me why you need my license.” He said, “I don’t have to tell you nothing. Give me your license.” I said, “This aint’ gonna go this way. I don’t who you are or what you’re trying to do.”

According to Tank, the incident happened next to a mall, and he thought the person was mall security. The man then pulled in front of his vehicle and revealed he was Los Angeles police. Tank says the cop then pulled out his gun  and more officers drew their weapons as well.

“I think he felt challenged, because he was on a bike, and I didn’t respect the bike. I didn’t know who he was on the bike,” added Tank. “I didn’t tell him he had to ride the bike for the last two weeks. Maybe he did something bad in the car, and they said you gotta ride the bike now.”

Profiles In Battle Rap: Arsonal

Part of the “American Dream” is the idea that anyone can rise from being a worker to a boss. Jay Z did it. Michael Jordan did it. And in the battle rap world, New Jersey’s Arsonal Da Rebel did it.

Ars started off battling for leagues like Grind Time and Smack/URL, but those companies were reluctant to book events in his hometown. So Arsonal decided he needed to start his own battle rap organization to provide an outlet for Jersey. He studied the other leagues, pulled in investors, and then in 2012 the U Dubb Network (formerly the UW Battle League) was born.

U Dubb managed to break into the business in a major way. Just this year the company presented one of the most anticipated match-ups in battle rap history – Loaded Lux vs. Hollow Da Don. Other top-tier battlers including Calicoe, Charlie Clips, K-Shine, O-Red, T-Rex, and Tsu Surf have appeared on U Dubb as well.

Even though he holds an ownership position, Arsonal has not called it quits as a competitor just yet. The self-described “#1 Most View Battle Rapper In America” is still giving the culture classic show downs against some of the game’s best emcees.

As the 8th subject of AllHipHop.com’s “Profiles In Battle Rap” series, Arsonal discusses his method of attack against his opponents, shares one of his of all time favorite bouts, and explains why battle rap will take over Hip Hop within the next two years.

Hometown

Newark, New Jersey

Years Experience

On camera, it’s been six years. A lot of people don’t know I was on 106 & Park as well in 2004. I won five weeks on that s**t. I was always battling – out in the street, in high school, and in college.

Style Known For (ie aggression, wordplay, punchlines, freestyle)

Disrespectful. Pure disrespect. I want n***as to be mad, hurting, and feeling some type of way. In the disrespect comes the lyricism, freestyle, wittiness, the punchlines, the schemes. But it’s all a part of being disrespectful.

Crew

I’m not associated with no crew. It’s every man for himself in this industry, but some of my comrades that I rock out with from the city are O-Red and Shotgun Suge.

Slogan

My general slogan is just “HPWT,” and that stands for “Haters Pivot Winners Travel.” When it comes to battling I got a few. My opening slogan is “Once again I’m here in another n***a’s state, on a another n***a’s stage, up in another n***a’s face.”

My ending slogan is “My s**t is real. My s**t is raw. My s**t is authentic. And you can’t spell ‘bars’ without putting the ‘Ars’ in it.” I used to use back in the day, “I motherf**king hate midgets.” I don’t really use that much no more, but I might bring that back if I battle somebody under five feet.

Leagues Competed In

All of them really. Lion’s Den, Fight Klub, Grind Time, U Dubb, URL, King of the Dot, Don’t Flop, Ozone, Guerrilla Warfare, Street Status, Gunline Battlegrounds. I have battled in more leagues than any other battle rapper has.

Mixtapes/Albums

I got five mixtapes on Datpiff.com. From Rebel Muzik 1-4 and then my latest mixtape H.P.W.T. Look out for me at the end of the year like around wintertime – late November, December. A lot of s**t should really be cracking as far as my music career.

Favorite Battle (Participant)

I would have to say me versus Shotty Horroh, because of the experience. That was my first time in London. I didn’t know I was going to be able to get there and control the crowd the way I did.

It was no bulls**t. No cutting me off. No “time.” It was a slugfest. To this day a lot of people say it’s a debatable battle. That might be the one rematch I might do. I’m open to some negotiation if they’re trying to see part 2. Let’s get it done.

Favorite Battle (Non-Participant)

Rest in peace. One of my favorite battles is Party Arty versus Murda Mook. R.I.P. Party Arty. That’s one of my favorite battles to date. A lot of people are not really up on Party Arty. A lot of the new cats don’t really know who he is, but he was a New York cat. He was a legend. He passed away a couple of years back.

One Of Your All Time Hottest Lines

If I had to pick one, I guess I’ll go back to the Shotty battle where I said, “I’m glad your uncle’s dead, fathead/He was nothing but a knucklehead crackhead/With a head full of ringworms and face full of blackheads/He deserved to get caught in the crosshairs when the mac spread/And God if gave him a second chance at life I’d wish him back dead.” I have a bunch of them though.

Your Battle Rap Mount Rushmore

Lux, Ice, Goodz, Me

One Mainstream Rapper You’d Like To Battle

If I had to pick one it would be Eminem. Just because he really comes from that background. I wouldn’t want to take on somebody else that really don’t know how to do this s**t.

Artists You’ve Worked With Musically

On my new project coming up I got a couple of beats from Grammy-nominated M16 (Lil Wayne, Jeezy). Shout out to him. I’m actually waiting on a verse back from Joe Budden and Royce Da. 5’9’’. In 2007, I did a collab with Scarface before I even started battle rapping. I got Kid Capri producing me some s**t.

Your Battle Rap Hit List

The n***as I want to battle now are industry cats that may have had a battle background – Cassidy, Eminem, even Joe Budden. I don’t have no picks on battle rappers. I’ve battled everybody I wanted to battle. As of right now, I’ve done it all. There’s not one top-tier battler I haven’t battled. I don’t really care for none of the rest of them.

Top 5 Emcees DOA

No order – Jadakiss, Eminem, Nas, Hov, and Biggie

Do You Prefer To Participate In A Debatable Battle Or A Clear Victory?

I’d rather a debatable battle. All battles are debatable, because if it’s not judged it’s going to be a debate. Even if you lose clearly, your core fans are going to stick behind you and make it a debate.

But I’d rather it be a competition. I don’t want to just go in there and smoke him. I want him to bring the best out of me. Just because what I wrote is already premeditated, but when a n***a come at me better than I expected, that’s what makes me animate my lyrics more.

I don’t mind going first or second. I’m way more dangerous when I go second. But if I go first, and I go crazy, then the other guy goes and he doesn’t go as hard as me, I’m not even going to try to freestyle. I’m not gonna do no extra s**t, because I already know my first round killed him. I know what my second and third is gonna do, and he ain’t shown me no competition. But if I go first, and this n***a comes with some crazy s**t – now I got my mind working.

I would rather a competitive battle, but a lot of people really ain’t on my level.

Where Do You See Battle Rap Going In The Future?

It’s been elevating every year. I hope and pray that it doesn’t lose it’s authenticity. It just stays real, stays street. I’m 103% behind it at all times. This is where I come from, and I’ll never forget it. Whether I pop or don’t, I’m riding with battle rap til the wheels fall off. I do think it’s gonna be the number one form of Hip Hop within the next two years.

You got all these mainstream cats wanting to battle. You got the biggest comedian in the world, Kevin Hart, calling himself a battle rapper – Chocolate Drop. These are all the people paying attention to this.

You got one of the biggest and best-selling emcees ever, Eminem, talking about he might come back. He put us on a reality show. You got the biggest NBA players showing up to battle events. You got Puff Daddy at events giving out $10,000 to battle rappers. Busta, Cassidy, and Lloyd Banks are showing up and giving us respect.

This is what battle rap is doing. So I see it elevating to the max.

Rick Ross Talks Dramatic Weight Loss, 'Mastermind' and Stalley's 'Ohio' Album

When you reach the plateau that Rick Ross has reached in the rap game, it almost seems like there is very little to strive for. He’s sold as many albums as one could imagine, he’s built a Maybach Music Empire and he’s papered up beyond belief. But, as you will see in this Breakfast Club exclusive interview, Rick Ross is far from finished and he’s making sure he’s physically fit to keep putting out music. Take a look at Rick Ross talking about his dramatic weight loss, Mastermind and Stalley’s Ohio album.

ON WEIGHT LOSS:
I’m still a big boy, I’ve been on that Ross fit program, it was something at about a year and a half ago, and I just kept doing my thing and I’ve dropped a few of em you know… You should do that Ross fit, you just turnin up and you just goin hard.

I was quitting everyday, and then they started dragging me out on those runs and I couldn’t quit.

ON MASTERMIND DELUXE:
You know it was just something that I wanted to do. When I recorded the music, if you go back and listen to my interviews speaking on Mastermind, I was saying that I felt had two albums. I wanted it to have a rich feel to it. I wanted it to have a Napoleon Hill nostalgia to it in the beginning. That throwback Puff feel. This that Geeci Liberachi.

NBC News Cameraman Tests Positive for Ebola

An American cameraman has tested positive for the Ebola virus while working with NBC News in West Africa, NBC reports.  The cameraman, 33-year-old Ashoka Mukpo, was hired by NBC as a second videographer to assist the network’s chief medical editor and correspondent Dr. Nancy Snyderman in Liberia while she covered news about the outbreak.

Mukpo was hired on Tuesday and began showing symptoms on Wednesday, feeling tired and achy. After quarantining himself he sought medical advice at Medecins Sans Frontieres Treatment Center and was diagnosed 12 hours later.

Snyderman told Today show anchor Matt Lauer on Friday (Oct. 3) that Mukpo “should have a very good prognosis” considering that the amount of Ebola he has is low.

Mukpo is the fifth American to test positive for the Ebola virus and be evacuated from West Africa. He will be returning to the states to receive treatment.

Deborah Turness, NBC News president, has issue a not to the NBC staff saying:

“We are doing everything we can to get him the best care possible. He will be flown back to the United States for treatment at a medical center that is equipped to handle Ebola patients.

We are also taking all possible measures to protect our employees and the general public. The rest of the crew, including Dr. Nancy, are being closely monitored and show no symptoms or warning signs. However, in an abundance of caution, we will fly them back on a private charter flight and then they will place themselves under quarantine in the United States for 21 days — which is at the most conservative end of the spectrum of medical guidance.”

Too Short Brings Loaded Gun Into Airport

Billboard reports that rapper Too Short was cited yesterday (Oct.2) at a California airport for having a loaded handgun in his baggage. The day before, the Oakland native was going through the checkpoint at an airport when a Transportation Security Administration employee saw that he had loaded gun through a baggage scanner. After being busted, Short, born Todd Shaw, fled the scene and left all of his belongings behind. He returned the following day with his lawyer to retrieve his things and was cited on misdemeanor possession of a loaded handgun in a public place. The 48-year-old has been released and is set to appear in court on Nov. 3rd.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Lecrae Diss Terminally Ill Man?

Oh Snap! This is the crazy sort of rumor you don’t hear often! Lecrae is the uber successful and dope rapper with a Christianity shwing! But, I heard there is somebody that may be praying a different prayer Apparently, a man that was on the verge of dying had one request, before passing through those pearly gates. He wanted a call and a prayer from Lecrae. From what I understand, he tried to get the rapper, but was unable to do so through several channels and it seemed like he simply got dissed as he faced the Lord above. He never get that call and still hasn’t. Clearly, he’s clear that Lecrae is a busy man and quite frankly, probably gets these sorts of requests all the time so it may have not been a diss at all. And, to keep it real, the dude that faced death is a good person so he’s not looking to tear him down. And I say “faced” death, because his ailment ended up working out – so to speak. He’s not going to die from this. He is disappointed though. Lecrae isn’t a preacher. He’s a rapper. We probably should cut him a break in that regard.
