Hip-Hop Rumors: Are Lil’ Kim, Eve, and Missy Elliott Going On Tour…TOGETHER?

Striking while the iron is hot, we hear Lil’ Kim is planning a national tour with fellow femcees, Eve and Missy Elliott. Both ladies rocked the stage with Lil’ Kim at her “Return Of The Queen” tour at the Paradise Theatre a few weeks back and got lots of love from the crowd. This would be a great look for all three ladies.

In related news, Lil’ Kim has confirmed that she will be writing a book about the year she spent in jail, set to include details about her time behind bars and highlight the lives of some of the women that were incarcerated with her.

The Queen Bee will be releasing a new Rockwilder produced single called, “Look Like Money” next week.

AllHipHop.com Joins Killer Mike, Dominique Wilkins, GrassROOTS Foundation and CNN to “Dunk The Junk” in Atlanta

(AllHipHop News) Childhood obesity is a national health epidemic and an issue attracting the attention of people in high places such as First Lady Michelle Obama. And, while illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes are well-documented as eventual threats to children’s health, there are other surprising statistics emerging – such as the fact that one -in-10 American children has fatty liver disease from high sugar, high fat diets.

Today (June 1), AllHipHop.com and the City for Change movement founded by the Hip-Hop website’s co-founder, Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur, and editor, Seandra Sims have partnered with the “Dunk The Junk” organization to help an Atlanta school learn the basics behind making smart, daily decisions about their diets.

Students at the unnamed school will be treated to appearances from an All-Star cast, including CNN Health’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Atlanta rapper Killer Mike, NBA dunking legend Dominique Wilkins, and 2011 NCAA Dunk Champion Jacob Tucker.

The information the youth receive from Dunk The Junk – such as the fact that soda contains more sugar than the average chocolate bar – will be conveyed through the unique channels of sports (a dunking exhibition from Tucker and chance to meet Wilkins), art (custom graffiti T-shirts and a graffiti-inspired mural of participating sponsors left the school), and Hip-Hop (support from Black Thought’s GrassROOTS Community Foundation and an in-person visit from Killer Mike, fresh off the release of his R.A.P. Music album).

CNN Health will broadcast the Q&A with Dr. Gupta and other Dunk The Junk event sponsors in the coming days.

Following their work on the Atlanta event, GrassROOTS Community Foundation, Dunk The Junk, and City for Change have created an ongoing partnership – the Triple H Collective (Hoops, Hip-Hop, and Health Research) – aimed at connecting Hip-Hop artists and athletes with efforts to promote health living and academic success to children across the nation.

Signs The World Is Coming To An End: Zombies Are Real Y’al!

There is some weird and scary stuff going on out there, and if you’re an end of the world enthusiast, you may take these events as signs that the world is truly coming to an end. In movies and on TV, “zombies” are usually a part of the “doomsday” scenario and lately, there have been more than a few real-life stories of people going ape sh*t and eating another human being’s face.

These face-eating attacks have occurred all over the nation and in close succession. On May 26, police responded to an incident where a naked man was discovered literally devouring the face of a homeless man on a Miami highway.  The crazed man was shot once by police, but continued to eat over 80 percent of the man’s face. The police eventually shot the assailant several times, killing him.

Most recently, on May 29 in Baltimore, police were called to a residence when a man found what he believed to be a human head and two hands inside metal tins in the basement of his house. It turns out that his son, a 21-year-old Morgan State University student (pictured on the right), confessed to police that he had murdered his roommate, and according to charging documents, admitted to eating the victim’s heart and portions of his brain.

On the same day in California, a man was arrested after he got into a physical altercation with his cousin and bit his nose off.

Prior to the Miami, Baltimore and California attacks, an Illinois man was arrested for domestic battery after he bit the cheek of an 18-year-old woman.

Those face-eating attacks were all this week! So has the “zombie apocalypse” begun? Are we nearing the end of days? I have no idea – but I know one thing for sure, there are some crazy a** people out there! In the words of Antoine Dotson, “Hide your kids, Hide Your wife”…there may be a zombie lurking in the shadows!

Hip-Hop Rumors: Is Chris Brown On That “Molly”?

Chris Brown has lost a drastic amount of weight in the last few weeks. While some think it’s because of the stress caused by the alleged “love triangle” between him, Rihanna, and his girlfriend Karreuche…others think there are more sinister reasons at work.

Case in point, someone who is allegedly inside Chris Brown’s camp, sent the following letter to Sandra Rose.com explaining Chris Brown’s new skinny physic:

“Hey Sandra,

Giiirrrrl have I got some tea for you and it’s served steaming HOT on celebs you do NOT like. Ok lets start first off with Chris Brown…

So I’m told everyone thought Chris Brown was losing weight over Rihanna. NOT THE CASE! I’m told he and his girlfriend Karreuche “allegedly” get high off that “molly” (which is like a more pure form of MDMA aka ecstasy). Anyway, I’m told they “allegedly” use it daily, and that’s the reason for his drastic weight loss and erratic behavior. His voice has also suffered from it, which is why he mostly performs/lip syncs “Turn Up The Music” at Award shows. Most MDMA users, I’m told, love techno-like music and glow in the dark scenery. A person who use to be a part of Chris Brown’s camp told me he just couldn’t be around it anymore because it was just too much and he (the person) is just into smoking marijuana as their only drug of choice.”

That’s crazy!

Earlier this week, Chris Brown and Karreuche were spotted leaving a club together. Chris Brown sat in the back of the SUV with several women, while Karreuche rode shotgun. The thing is, homegirl did not look happy about it. Check out the video below:

I hope they had a “swinging” good time!

If You Love Hip-Hop, Ice-T’s New Movie ‘The Art of Rap’ Is A Must See

One of the dopest films out or soon to be out at a theater near you is the Something from Nothing the Art of Rap, put together by Ice-T... Yes, there have been a number of documentaries put out over the years that have focused on emceeing, but this one really hits home for a few reasons..

First, the stories are being told by those who do it..This is important, because far too often the nuanced  and subtle perspectives by the practitioners are often left out or overshadowed by everyone else when documentaries are made. We get to really see how folks are thinking and feel where they’re coming from. There’s no middle-man, expert, punditry interpretation.. You walk away really understanding how and why Hip Hop and in particular rap is an American art form given to the world..

The second thing, is we got to hear from many of the pioneers and see them execute their craft without the feeling like they were being rushed off or their interviews cut short to make room for artists or big names who are well-known today in 2012.

It was good to hear good solid interviews with pioneering and iconic figures who still have it like Grandmaster Caz, Mele-Mel, MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Nas, Chuck D, Q-Tip and Doug E Fresh to name a few.  They were nicely balanced out with folks like Kanye West who got busy in this film, along with artists like  Immortal Technique, Eminem, Bun B and Common to name a few..

On a side note the Grandmaster Caz spit the illest rhyme out of everyone in the entire film..I had to get that in , because a couple of my buddies thought Kanye took the cake. A couple thought Eminem came hard while others felt WC made his presence felt.. That’s the good thing about this film.. we’re all gonna come out debating who repped.. So I’m just gonna keep it real with ya since its my blog.. Grandmaster Caz killed it.. case closed!..

It was good seeing Ice T do the interviews because he pulls things out of his peers that many film makers probably couldn’t.. It was good to see him in the role of journalist, fan and participant as he ripped a few flows to remind cats, he still has flavor. It was good to see the camaraderie and mutual respect and admiration which often led humorous exchanges..

The only shortcomings to this movie is it should’ve been longer.. I think 4 or 5 hours would’ve been great.. LOL Seriously Ice will have to make additional parts to this, because as dope as this flick is, there are many angles that weren’t fully covered.. There’s no way to fit everyone and everything into a film like that..especially since Ice allows folks to talk and show off their skillz.. He wasn’t cutting and editing just to fit everyone in..

Other critiques?? Pick a city, any city around the country, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Oakland, Cleveland, Boston.. Pick a city and I guarantee at every showing, there will be someone pointing out that the Art of Rap didn’t include their favorite rapper or the person they perceive to be the sharpest spitter from their part of town..There’s gonna be cats saying there wasn’t enough midwest, not enough South, no Bay Area etc etc.. That’s gonna happen and even with that critique the film is still dope..It might drop down to a 9.5 as opposed to a 10..

There will be folks from different generations who feel like more could’ve been added. Yes there will be a few who say the film should’ve included more pioneers, more cats from the 80s, more cats from the 90s and millennium cats. Some will want more underground, others will want it to be more mainstream.. That’s gonna happen… and even with that, as I noted earlier still this is a Must See film

Personally I think Ice could’ve added a few more sistas in the mix.. It was good to see Salt, It was great to see Lyte.. I wanted to see Yo Yo, Medusa, Invincible and Jean Grae.. and while they weren’t in the film, it’s still dope.

The good news is Ice filmed hours upon hours of material and I’m almost certain we’ll see additional parts where our personal favorites are included.. As I said this is not a forced documentary. It flowed really well and had a very authentic feel and is an important, essential addition in the Story of Hip Hop..

Major Props to Ice T.. I fully expect this documentary to be nominated for an Oscar.. It’s that damn good.

Atlanta’s Red Bull EmSee Freestyle Battle Finale A Fight To The Finish

The Dirty South’s hottest city for Hip-Hop hosted eight of the nation’s top aspiring battle rappers, as they fought for the champion title of the Red Bull EmSee National Finals.  The final battle, held at The Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia, was hosted by Little Brother’s Phonte, and judged by David Banner, Def Jam breakout artist, Big K.R.I.T., and Hip-Hop legend, DJ Premier.

The explosive competition featured top freestyle rappers who won regional qualifiers, including Dirtbag Dan (Los Angeles), Bishop I (Seattle), Mic Stew (Philadelphia), Phranchyze (Houston), Pat G (Boston), D’Meitz (Washington D.C.), Hostyle (Detroit), and Jonny Storm (Miami), all fighting to earn the respect of the judges and crowd and ultimately, the coveted title of Red Bull EmSee National Champion. Along with bragging rights, the winner is awarded a $10,000 prize purse and the opportunity to collaborate with a producer of his choice at Red Bull Studio Los Angeles.

“When I was coming up in the battle rap game, there weren’t opportunities like this,” said David Banner. “This is a serious for these guys – to get this type of prize and support. If they want to win they need to bring the creativity, showmanship, flows and be original.”

The highly-anticipated final round pitted Philly’s Mic Stew against Detroit’s Hostyle, and made for one of the most intense battles in Red Bull EmSee history. They faced off in a traditional head-to-head freestyle battle format rapping over beats and acappella. But, the judges had a difficult time picking the winner and called for a tiebreaker battle to end it all.  The gloves came off as both MCs inched closer and closer to capturing the title, the cash prize, and the studio session with a producer of their choice.

In battle rapping, nothing is off limits, but Phonte may have said it best: “You can rap about peoples’ mamas, but not if they are in the room.” In the deciding battle, it was Mic Stew who reigned victorious over Hostyle. The judges agreed that the battles were tight all the way to the end, but it was really the last line that Mic Stew dropped that sealed the win. “…and f%#! you for dissin’ my beautiful mom.” Mic Stew’s actual mom (Momma Stew) was standing in the front of the audience watching as the finalists spat vicious lines at each other –giving it everything they had.

After being named Red Bull EmSee National Champion, Mic Stew admits, “That last line really shut the house down! “I feel amazing, I feel relieved, I’ve been nervous for 24 hours. And I just came to win and I buckled down. I am pumped to go into the Red Bull studio and make a great record.”

Check out video below of Mic Stew, the winner of this year’s Red Bull EmSee battle series:
