Kanye House Off The Market; Rapper Debuts New Tracks

(AllHipHop News) The posh Hollywood home of rapper Kanye West came off the market last week, just days after the multi-million dollar residence was listed for sale. The 4,214-square-foot, four-bedroom, three-bath home was up for sale for $3.995 million dollars. According to real estate reports, West originally purchased the property for $1.75 million shortly after the release of his blockbuster album, College Dropout. The property was de-listed on May 13th and while it is not known why it was taken off the market, the house has not been sold, according to sources. Kanye West is currently recording new material for his upcoming album Good Ass Job, which according to reports, will land in stores some time this September. Over the weekend, West made a rare appearance at the CV Lounge in the SoHo district of Manhattan, where he debuted four tracks from the upcoming album. West also previewed some of the tracks to popular UK radio personality DJ Semtex and producer Pharell, who both said the new album would “shock everyone” with its sound.

Big Boi Talks Lyricism & How People Get Freestyling Confused

“Trying to outdo the last verse is our curse” – Andre 3000AllHipHop sat down with Big Boi of OutKast and got the legendary rapper’s views on lyricism and the art of freestyling.

As told to AllHipHop.com: “Lyricism is very important to me because I come from The Dungeon Family, school of lyrics. You know, um, do I consider myself a lyricist? Um, most definitely! A lyricist, a writer, I’m just, what you call it? I’m like a life coach almost a lil’ bit. Commentator. I’m a game spitter, definitely! It’s part of what we do, take pride in really writing rhymes and having different cadences and thangs. One thing about me and Stacks (Andre 300), we never try to do the same verse we’ve done. Like Dre said uh, tryna out do the last verse is out curse. The last verse you buss you gotta buss harder than that. So you gotta treat everything that you did in the past like that past and move on. It’s very challenging to make up new rhyme patterns and just to kill s**t on the daily but we doing it and we ready!”

As told to AllHipHop.com: Let me say one thing about free-styling. There’s a new school definition of free-styling and then it’s a real definition of free-styling. The definition of free-styling is raps or thoughts off the top of your head, not written down, your homeboy can’t say your backgrounds behind you while you say it. It’s strictly like for me to just go off the top of my head and even talk about the paper that you got. Or you can talk about the skirt with flowers (kicks a freestyle) See what I mean? You can go off into a tangent if you want to.

?Like, the new style free-styling is just reciting some s**t you wrote. No, but that’s what the f**k they doin’. Nah’m sayin? You can do that all day long. Like, I’ll give you one. This s**t wrote. (spits a verse) But that’s what they be doing. That’s some s**t on my album. That Daddy Fat Sacks verse 2 n***a. Go get it! July 6th, Son of Chico Dusty, Sir Luscious Left Foot, Yea!”

Lil Jon Teams With Miley Cyrus On ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ Remix

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta rapper/producer Lil Jon is returning to the scene with a new album, along with a high profile collaboration with pop star Miley Cyrus. Lil Jon teamed with Miley Circus to remix her new single “Can’t Be Tamed.” According to reports, they recorded the song at Rock Mafia recording studio in Santa Monica, California. Miley Cyrus told her fans the remix was “rockin,” while Lil Jon told E! Online: “It’s crazy, it’s crazy. I think everybody’s gonna really enjoy the song.” “Can’t Be Tamed” is Miley Cyrus’ first single from the album of the same title, which is due in stores in the United States on June 22. In addition to the collaboration with Miley Cyrus, Lil Jon is preparing to release his long-delayed album Crunk Rock, which is due in stores on June 8th. His musical ventures are not the only thing the producer/rapper relies on to earn the $11 million dollars he grosses annually. In addition to rapping and producing, Lil Jon owns the Crunk! Energy drink, a wine distributor and a line of sunglasses. “I want to have something to fall back on, so that’s a reason you create these different business ventures, I don’t want to rap forever,” Lil Jon told Daily Finance. “The products start to really take off when I have an album out because I’m on TV more. Definitely [the non-music revenues] will come up a little more in this album cycle. Who knows, maybe it will get to 50-50.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kanye West – FOUR New Songs, Seen In NYC!

THE DAILY TWO SENSE

Sunday…and I have a rumor. SHEEEEEEEEESH!

KANYE IS ON THE WAY BACK

Jeez, there are so many layers to this so shout out to William Yan, Ms. Drama, KanyeLive.com, Nah Right, DJ Semtex and a bunch of others.

I was trying to chill and somebody on the AHH staff kicked me out of my slumber…with a damn rumor about Kanye West.

First, this quote is from DJ Semtex:

“It’s all about a new Kanye West album. The album is coming in September. Okay, so I’ve heard the first Kanye West joint. I was sworn to secrecy. I’m not allowed to talk about it. All I can say is it is banging. If that’s a taste of what’s coming on the album, he has smacked it. Lyrically….he is saying things like, ‘Wow, he said that?’ It is going to shock everybody, the first record.”

William Yan took a pic of Ye when he was in the streets of NYC. I would post the pic, but there’s not a lot to that. Here’s the word from W.Y. and his experience with Kanye:

“[Kanye] was on his incognito steez yesterday strolling the Soho streets with his buddies Virgil Abloh and Don C. The gang was nice enough to let me flick up Mr. West, before all hell broke loose and people realized who I was shooting.”

Here is the pic from William Yan:

LAST BUT NOT LEAST!

Kanye let people hear four – yes FOUR new songs at a club in New York City! Here is the twitter message floating around.

OH…ONE MORE RUMOR….

Another rumor I just happened to stumble over is that Kanye has reportedly paid Amber Rose for his silence regarding his personal life. Perez Hilton says that Amber Rose has signed a silence agreement in the sum of 7 figures. WOW. But, they are also saying that the pair have broken up as well. I was under the impression that that rumor was shot down by Amber herself. Hmmm…Amber Rose back on the market AND has money? Scary!

Hopefully…a man gets a fair shake or…!

FRIDAY, WE LOVE YOU!!!

Roots Talk New Album, Projects With Danger Mouse, John Legend

The Roots are set to drop their 11th album, How I Got Over, but group member Black Thought and Questlove said they also have a number of projecting comes as well.

“He [Black Thought] has a project that I’m in called the Money Making Jam Boys. The support team of this album is the Money Making Jam Boys with Sugar Tongue Slim, Truck North, Dice Raw, [P### and Black Thought],” Questlove told AllHipHop.com.

“Ill Street Blues,” a remake of the Kool G Rap classic, can be found on the Sugar Tongue Slim debut mixtape and it features the Money Making Jam Boys.

As The Roots prepare to drop their new album, Black Thought and Questlove said the group is preparing a slew of new projects, including one with John Legend.

“We’re still involved in the John Legend record. That just basically became a John Legend and Roots Album. Initially all the albums were supposed to come out at the same time. But he’s pushing his back [John Legend] because his album is tied to a movie called, “Waiting for Superman.” This is a movie about how the education system has failed America.,” Questlove said.

Filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, who also directed Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” hems the “Waiting for Superman” film, which follows several intelligent kids through the education system to see the detrimental affects on them. His findings are startling and questions the system that seemingly stunts academic growth.

Questlove said the soundtrack with John Legend will present aggressive music from the singer and the Philadelphia-bred band.

“We created basically a soundtrack that is basically John’s most grittiest, roughest album,” he said.

Questlove also revealed that the group would be working with the legendary Booker T of the famed R&B band Booker T. & The MG’s.

“Come October, we also had the pleasure of creating an album with Booker T. The same with him (as with John Legend, we pretty much make an album. We had Gabe of the Dap Pinks engineer it. This will probably be the ‘Rafeal Sadiq’ record of this year. It sounds like it was made in 1964…it sounds like super raw and gritty…”

Black Thought also said that he was working on a project with acclaimed producer Danger Mouse called Dangerous Thoughts. Finally, Black Thought revealed that he was still looking to release a highly delayed, but anticipated solo project.

“Its still in the works, but at the moment I’m just trying to find a home for it,” Black Thought said of his solo album.

How I Got Over comes out on June 22.

Reports: Lil Kim Joins Roc Nation

Rapper Lil Kim has joined Jay-Z’s management company, Roc Nation, and Kim’s fellow Brooklynite will executive produce the album as well.

A number of sources have reported the news, including gossip blogger Perez Hilton. No formal announcement has been made even though one is expected shortly.

“Although she’s seen better days, Lil Kim is ready to make a musical comeback! The rapper officially signed a record deal with Roc Nation. Jay-Z is even expected to produce her next album. Interesting,” said Perez Hilton.

More on the signing as news develops.

Knockout Nation: Marquez Carves Up Vazquez To Even Series, Pacquiao Relents on Blood Testing!

Marquez Dominates in 3rd Round TKO

Rafael Marquez (39-5, 35 KOs) waited 3 years for a chance to even the series with rival Israel Vazquez (44-5, 32 KOs). And last night (May 22) Marquez’s revenge was swift, and the former champion dissected Vazquez in just 3 rounds to even up their tetralogy.

Rafael Marquez proved to be the faster and fresher fighter from the outset. The Mexican power puncher constantly beat Vazquez to the punch with hard combinations filled with hooks and straights from both hands. The punishment resulted in Vazquez suffering a wide, gushing cut over his left eye in the first round.

The streaming blood did no favors for Vazquez, who tried to blink the blood out his eye as Marquez showed no mercy raining down more straights and hooks to the face.

By the 3rd round, Vazquez now had another bad cut, this time over the right eye as the result of a headbutt. Smelling and seeing blood, Marquez pounced in the pocket and exchanged punches; his being the more powerful and getting there first. A straight right hand crashed home and forced the already badly battered Israel Vazquez to take a knee.

He got up almost immediately after taking it, and the proud but faltering warrior walked to his corner while still desperately trying to brush and blink away the blood blanketing his vision.

Rafael Marquez made Vazquez to give ground with an overwhelming assortment of hooks and uppercuts to the head and body, forcing referee Raul Caiz, Jr to call a stoppage at the 1:33 mark.

At the post-fight press conference, the 32 year old Vazquez didn’t rule out a possible 5th fight despite having heavy scar tissue over both eyes, and having to undergo several surgeries in recent years to fix a detached retina.

“I need to close up the cuts,” Vazquez said while pointing to the eye damage. “And 5-6 months to recover. But if the commission is ok with another fight and the fans want it, I would be willing to do it. We gave the fans 4 great fights.”

Rafael Marquez, who evened up the career-shortening series at 2-2, explained his strategy was to target the eyes since his rival has suffered bad eye damage in the previous 3 battles.

“It was definitely the plan to go after the eyes because of the surgeries,” Marquez told the media. “Because he hit me pretty good, I thought the fight would go longer.”

No title was at stake, just pride in their craft and the sole purpose to give fans quite possibly the most action-packed and brutal fight series in boxing history. The first clash in March 2007 was won by Marquez when Israel Vazquez couldn’t continue after suffering a broken nose. In the August 2007 rematch, Vazquez avenged the loss with a gutsy 7th round TKO. The 2008 rubbermatch went down to the wire with several knockdowns, and Vazquez squeaking out with a split decision courtesy of a 12th round knockdown.

Where do both men go from here? The series may be even, but each fighter should be satisfied with its conclusion. Israel Vazquez has no quit in him, and when a tough fighter reaches the twilight of his career that becomes a detriment. Vazquez is clearly a diminished fighter with dulled reflexes and eyes that split open from any prolonged attack. Like Diego Corrales, his defining opponent has ruined him, and thankfully it appears that Vazquez’s management team sees that.

“That’s it. His career is over. [He] doesn’t need to fight again,” said Vazquez’s manager Frank Espinoza.

Rafael Marquez would be wise to call it quits, but the win will likely propel him to a showdown with Juan Manuel Lopez, who expressed his intent to fight the winner of last night’s contest. Marquez is clearly also on the downside of his career, and will never be the same either. But like Corrales’ rival Jose Luis Castillo, Marquez looks to have just enough left to be at least competitive in 2-3 more high-profile fights for a few final paydays.

On the undercard, IBF bantamweight champion Yonnhy Perez (20-0-1) went to a stalemate technical draw with Abner Mares (20-0-1). While the press has mostly favored Mares due to his consistent and more accurate punching, both men feel they won the bout and will certainly meet again.

Manny Pacquiao Now Willing to Do 14-Day Testing Window

In February, Manny Pacquiao ignored a Floyd Mayweather compromise that would have had their blood testing impasse met in the middle at 14 days prior to fight night. Now, after both men have won subsequent fights against Top 10 welterweights, Pacquiao has confirmed he would be willing to agree to the offer.

“14 days is ok with me, as long as [the blood test] isn’t done on the day of the fight, and only the right amount of blood will be drawn from me,” Pacquiao detailed to the Filipino press.

The quote is Pacquiao’s first statement on a potential Mayweather bout since his post-fight interview in March after defeating Joshua Clottey. At the time, Pacquiao refused to budge on Mayweather’s Olympic style drug testing demand, but stated his goal to fight the winner of Mayweather-Mosley.

Last month, Mayweather silenced critics by outclassing Shane Mosley to a blowout decision win. After that fight, Mayweather said the 14 day offer was now off the table, reiterating his stance from February after Pacquiao walked away from the negotiating table rather than compromise further on the testing. Before talks ended, Pacquiao’s final offer had been random testing no more the 24 days before the fight.

Despite several articles reporting otherwise, neither Floyd Mayweather nor his camp have released any statements since Pacquiao’s new stance on the testing. A few weeks ago, Pacquiao promoter and Top Rank CEO Bob Arum said that both sides will discuss business in private to prevent the media circus and pandering that helped sink the previous negotiation.

If terms are met, the fight will be the most lucrative in boxing history with a November target date.

Since the last negotiations, Manny Pacquiao has won a congressional seat in his native Phillipines, which he assured fans will not interfere with his training. Pacquiao will be sworn in on June 30.

Man Acquitted Of Murdering Rapper Dolla

(AllHipHop News) The man accused of shooting and killing rising rapper Dolla was acquitted of murder charges yesterday (May 22) in a Los Angeles courtroom. A jury acquitted Aubrey Berry, 24, of the charges after less than two days of deliberating and nine days of testimony, which saw Berry take the stand in his own defense. Berry claimed that he was involved in an altercation with Dolla in a club in Atlanta a week prior to the shooting, which took place last May, near a valet section at the Beverly Center. He testified that he researched the rapper online and read his violent lyrics. He also found clips of Dolla and other gang members bragging about assaulting another man. Berry, who had a permit to carry his gun in other states,  testified he traveled to Los Angeles often and was always armed, although he didn’t realize his permit was not valid in California. Berry said Dolla threatened to kill him during the chance encounter at the Beverly Center. Dolla, 21, was an artist signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzik. He was shot three times in the back, as he attempted to flee Berry’s gunfire. “Obviously, what happened on May 18, 2009, was a horrible tragedy for everyone,” Superior Court Judge Michael E. Pastor told the lawyers in court. “The jurors have spoken.”Jurors may have been influenced by Dolla’s own rap lyrics, said Deputy District Attorney Bobby Grace. “You’d hate to think that was the tipping point,” Grace told The Los Angeles Times out front of court. Dolla’s mother was taken from the courtroom due to her emotional reaction to the verdict.

Suge ‘100 Percent’ Innocent Says Lawyer

(AllHipHop News) Marion “Suge” Knight’s lawyer has denied reports that the 45-year-old mogul pointed a gun at a man during an argument Wednesday (May 19th) in Los Angeles. Knight was arrested in Gardena by a group of LAPD officers from the Homicide & Robbery Division just after 12:00 AM Thursday morning. The former head of Death Row Records allegedly pointed a gun at him in Los Angeles during the altercation. Knight was on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and driving with a suspended license. He was released after posting $60,000 in bail. “He’s innocent, 100 percent,” Marc Brumer told CNN. “Suge Knight is a businessman. He is not a person who would carry a gun or flash a gun at anybody. That’s not Suge Knight.”Brumer noted that police never found the alleged weapon when they arrested Knight, who cooperated with authorities. “There are a lot of people that hate (Knight) and are jealous of what he has obtained in his life,” Brumer said of a motive for the latest accusations levied at Knight. According to Brumer, Knight is looking to return to the music industry as the head of his own record label. “He’s working with new artists, starting a record label, looking into sports management companies,” Brumer said. “He’s really an icon in the music industry, and really looked up to in the African-American community. “He’s a bright man. He wouldn’t carry a gun on him. That’s not him.”

Republicans Buy Sneakers, Too

A

popular sentiment shared among members of the sports community is that politics

and sports should not mix.  After

all, with the vast investment of Corporate America, astronomical ticket pricing

and multi-billion dollar television contracts, it is simply safer and

financially more lucrative to accept the status quo than to challenge it.

The

Phoenix Suns recently rejected this logic during their 2nd round

playoff series versus the San Antonio Spurs.  Before Game 2 of the Western

Conference Semi-Finals versus their post-season nemesis, the Suns took

advantage of their media spotlight to show support for the Latino

community.  Owner Robert Sarver approached his players about wearing their

“Los Suns” jerseys for two reasons: 1) in honor of Cinco de Mayo and 2) as a

sign of disapproval for the newly passed Immigration Law.  In a show of

solidarity, Sarver received the overwhelming support of his players and

coaches, as well as by the Spurs (who wanted to wear “Los Spurs” jerseys, but

could not get them ready in time for the game).

Known

as Senate Bill 1070, this law is “intended” to target illegal immigrants by

giving the police the authority to question and arrest any individual they

suspect to be in the country illegally.  In reality however, critics argue

that this bill is unconstitutional, as it simply allows and encourages racial

profiling by targeting the state’s large Hispanic community.

Historically

speaking, this is not the first time that the Arizona Legislature has

demonstrated racial narrow-mindedness.  In

1987, then Arizona Governor Evan Mecham rescinded a bill to recognize Martin

Luther King Jr. Day.  The bill was once again snubbed

when voters revisited the matter in 1990.  Met with intense scrutiny across the nation, the NFL

and its Players Association decided to move the venue of Super Bowl XXVII from

Tempe, Arizona to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

Similar

opposition has been pouring out with the enactment of SB 1070.  President Obama has been quite

critical of the bill, while Hispanic members of Congress and neighbouring

states Texas, New Mexico and California — all with large Latino populations —

have questioned its legitimacy. The Los Angeles City Council has even gone as

far as to vote a boycott of doing business with the state of Arizona (Editor’s

note: where does this leave the Los Angeles Lakers who play the Suns in the

Western Conference Finals?)

The

NBA has indeed become more diverse over the past two decades and by endorsing

the Suns’ “Los Suns” jerseys, the NBA and their Player’s Association took

a significant and much needed social stance. In a recent interview on ESPN, the

captain and star of the team, Steve Nash, spoke out against the bill: “I’m against it.  I think that this is a bill that really

damages our civil liberties.  I

think that it opens up the potential for racial profiling, (and) racism.  I think that it’s a bad precedence to

set for our young people.  It

represents our state poorly in the eyes of the rest of our nation and the

world.  I think that we have a lot

of great attributes here and I think that it’s something that we can do

without; and hopefully we can change a lot in the coming weeks”.

It

is easy to see where Nash differs from many of his peers in the spotlight.

Rather than side stepping the issue, Nash took advantage of his elevated status

to address the issue; with a bit more diplomacy than Kanye declaring after Hurricane Katrina that

“George Bush doesn’t care about black people” but with just as much of the

social weight.  Not to over-hype

the importance of the NBA’s influence over America’s youth, but just think back

on what hip-hop did for Obama’s 2008 Presidential Campaign — it sparked

unprecedented interest and voter turnout amongst the youth of America.

Similarly, the NBA could very well end up being responsible for a

socially-charged youth response by taking a public stance on SB 1070.

At

the same time, let us not forget that during periods of extreme unrest and

conflict in the civil arena, sports was used as a great means to spark

conversation and social change.  In the past three decades, athletes have

bartered social responsibility for corporate functionality.  Rightly or wrongly, the game’s top

performers have agreed to take the highroad as it pertains to social and

political ills, in exchange for corporate immunity.  We need not look further than to the greatest

basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan.  The

way in which Jordan transcended the game of basketball was evident both on and

off the court.  Growing up, pretty much every kid

who stepped onto the court wanted to “Be Like Mike”.  While Jordan’s heart and

determination on the court was never questioned, his silence off it has been.  His allegiance to Corporate America

(i.e. Nike, Gatorade, McDonald’s, etc) has continually outweighed just about

everything else, as evidenced during the 1990 Senate race in his home state of

North Carolina, where Jordan refused to endorse Democratic nominee Harvey Gantt

over the ultra-conservative racial bigot Jesse Helms, famously stating that

“Republicans buy sneakers, too.”

For

better or for worse, we have come a long way since the days of Jackie Robinson,

Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown and other social activists, all in the name of fame and

celebrity.

Perhaps

it is unfair to expect our athletes to be publicly invested in the social and political wrongs of our

culture.  Some would argue that it

does not matter what stance Michael Jordan takes on the War in Iraq or the

Health Care Debate.  After all as a

performer, he was paid to do two things: win and entertain –- both of which he

did better than anyone else.

However,

it is irresponsible and naive to

suggest that politics and sports (or entertainment for that matter) do not

mix.  Senate Bill 1070 is an example of that.  This is not a

Democrat versus Republican issue; it is a right versus wrong issue.  And

in any arena, civil or sport, racial profiling and discrimination must be addressed.
