Katt Williams Sued For $1 Mil Over Attack Dog; Assault

(AllHipHop News) Katt Williams is being sued by a recording studio owner who claims the comedian stiffed him on a $28,600 bill.

When the owner attempted to collect from the funny man, things got nasty.

Merion Powers filed the lawsuit in Fulton County Superior Court, claiming Williams, of Detroit, used his studio to record his comedy routines.

Williams allegedly showed up to Powers’ studio in October 2009 with his “attack dog.” Upon a verbal command from Williams, his dog pounced on a dog owned by Powers, causing an injury to the animal that required veterinary treatment. In December, Williams asked Powers to meet him at the Four Seasons Hotel to discuss the incident. When he arrived, he allegedly told Williams he was thinking of filing criminal charges over the dog attack.

Williams allegedly threatened to kill Powers in the hotel room, while his attack dog circled Powers snarling at the man.

One of Williams‘ bodyguards then restrained Powers from behind while Williams punched the man in the face, as the attack dog stood by, “apparently waiting for the attack signal.”

Powers seeks at least $1 million dollars in damages.

J.Period & Ralph McDaniels Honor B.I.G. with Video Remix Collection

(AllHipHop News) Mixtape heavyweight J.Period is continuing his B.I.G.-inspired March 9 Project by collaborating with Hip-Hop video pioneer Ralph McDaniels for the March 9: Video Remix Collection.

The ongoing theme of the March 9 Project is answering the hypothetical question of “what would Hip-Hop be like if B.I.G. were still alive?” To that end, the remixed videos will show Biggie performing updated versions of his classic tracks.

The first video, “Flava in Ya Ear (March 9 Video Remix),” premiers today. This evening, J. Period and Ralph McDaniels will debut more videos at Diddy and Mister Cee’s B.I.G. Tribute, commencing from The Lab in Brooklyn.

The project wraps up its promotion later this month when BET showcases the video collection as a part of their tribute to the slain emcee.J. Period acknowledged the March 9 Video Remix Collection as his most ambitious project to date, and praised Ralph McDaniels as the essential ingredient that was needed to bring this idea to fruition. video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

“I’m thrilled to be working with a legend like ‘Uncle’ Ralph, who is still so passionate and creative after 25 years in the game,” J.Period told AllHipHop.com. “Ralph’s vast knowledge of Hip-Hop makes him the perfect collaborator for what I do. Teaming up to pay tribute to B.I.G. felt like the perfect way to spark that collaboration.”

J. Period’s latest B.I.G. tribute comes after a highly successful 2009 that saw him release 5 tributes (Nneka, Q-Tip, K’Naan, Talib Kweli, and Michael Jackson) that totaled over 800,000 downloads. Period was also featured prominently in one of last year’s biggest games in Activision’s DJ Hero.

Ralph McDaniels, through his seminal show Video Music Box, broke ground as the creator of the first Hip-Hop video show aired on public television. Since 1984, the industry legend has directed over 200 videos with credits ranging from Public Enemy to Nas.

The online launch is available at www.jperiod.com/march9 New videos will be updated every week and culminate with a full-length video mixtape release in April.

Today marks the 13th anniversary of B.I.G.’s death. He would have celebrated his 38th birthday on May 21.

What If Biggie Smalls Had Lived?

13 years.

It

was then, 13 years ago, on this day of March 9th that the Notorious B.I.G. aka

Biggie Smalls aka Christopher Wallace was senselessly cut down in Los

Angeles, California. But, what should have been the end really only

eternalized one Christopher Wallace, a a father, friend and legend to

millions. Since his death, we have seen B.I.G. become even more iconic.

We’ve seen rappers try to replace Biggie, by becoming near replicas. We

have seen the rise of other rappers that have seemingly filled the

shoes left by the Bad Boy.Now, that there is considerable time

and reflection, ponder for a moment: What if Biggie had not died. What

would have happened? Who would would be here? Where would his career

have gone? Certainly, a lot of this is wishful thinking, as most of us

truly wish Biggie was still here. So, what do you think? How would

Hip-Hop and life be like if the Notorious B.I.G. were still alive?

D’Angelo Pleads Not Guilty to Prostitute Solicitation

AllHipHop.com has confirmed that singer D’Angelo has pleaded not guilty to charges that he solicited a prostitute.

D’Angelo, real name Michael Archer, was arrested last Saturday (March 6) in New York’s Greenwich Village section for propositioning an undercover officer with $40 for sex.

Through his management, the acclaimed artist proclaimed his innocence and advised fans of his focus in delivering a new LP this summer, which would be his first in 10 years.

“We know there is a lot of speculation in regard to the arrest of D’Angelo in New York City this past weekend,” stated D’Angelo representative Lindsay Guion. “We would like his fans and the public at large to know that D’Angelo has pled not guilty — and is contesting the allegations made against him. Also know that, he is in good health and extremely excited about his forthcoming new album.”

The vocalist’s last album, Voodoo, was a career milestone, selling over 1.7 million and earning a Grammy for Best R&B album.

In 2005 he was arrested twice, pleading guilty to DUI, marijuana, and cocaine possession charges.

A hearing for the prostitution charge has been set for May 4.Until then, Guion urges fans not to judge the singer based on his past criminal convictions.

“D’Angelo would like to personally thank all of his fans for the outpouring of concern, and appreciates if all would allow the American justice system to resolve the matter before jumping to any conclusions,” she concluded.

At press time, D’Angelo’s forthcoming third studio album does not have a verified release date.

Guru’s Nephew Says Solar Is Pretending To Be Related To Guru

Justin Nicholas-Elam Ruff, the nephew of rapper Guru, has crafted another video where he chronicles going to see his uncle. Ruff claims that Solar and his wife are pretending to be Guru’s brother and sister in an effort to have control over Guru’s affairs. In an interview on Hot 97, Solar denied preventing family from seeing Guru. Ruff’s video, titled Guru’s Nephew’s MOMENT OF TRUTH (Part 1), is pretty explosive stuff that raises more questions!

Here is part 2.

SOLAR TALKED EARLIER, THE HOT 97 INTERVIEW

Part 1 of this interview created more questions than answers as Solar was very evasive. I know from AllHipHop’s point of view, we want to know that the statement we got was authentic and from Guru! Now, it is looking all too weird! I’m speaking for myself and not the staff. Fans care about Guru too and want to know what’s up! Solar also made it seem that Guru doesn’t want to see anybody from his past…There were some issues, but at a time like this? Wild! This is about to get deeper and deeper!

AHH Stray News: Suge Owes $6 Mil, Style Wars Restoration, Dizzee Rascal

Former Hip-Hop mogul Marion “Suge” Knight is in serious debt to the Internal Revenue Service. In January, the IRS re-filed a 2003 lien against the former Death Row co-owner for $6,578,696.31, based on his 1996 tax return. According to court documents related to his child support, Knight currently earns $1,207 per-month. Just last month, a Simi Valley storage facility auctioned off $4,500 worth of Knight’s belongings, after he failed to pay a seven-month-old bill. The family of the late Tony Silver, director of the classic 1983 Hip-Hop movie Style Wars, is asking fans to help restore the original print of the movie. According to the official Style Wars website, the original negative of the film had been damaged after many years in storage. Silver’s family hopes to use digital technology to restore the movie frame by frame. The restoration of the cult-classic, which features The Rock Steady Crew, legendary graffiti artists Dondi and Seen, will cost about $500,000. Style Wars was produced by Tony Silver and Henry Chalfont. The documentary took the Grand Prize in Documentaries at the Sundance Film Festival in 1983. More information can be found at www.stylewars.com. Dizzee Rascal will bare his soul in a new upcoming autobiography, according to reports. The rapper signed a deal with Canongate Books to release The Dizzee Rascal Story with music journalist Ben Thompson. The book will detail Dizzee’s rise to fame from his impoverished beginnings in East London to his career as a successful rapper, who has landed three #1 hits (“Dance Wiv Me”, “Bonkers” and “Holiday”) and earned a Mercury Prize. The book will also detail a high profile fight in 2003, in the Cyprus resort of Ayia Napa. Dizzee was stabbed six times during a clash with rivals connected to The So Solid Crew. The Dizzee Rascal Story is slated for an October 2010 release.

Death Hovering Over the Hip-Hop Horizon

“I know you ain’t

scared to die. We all gotta go, you know?”

—Tupac, “Death

Around the Corner,” Me Against the World

(1995).

Last week legendary MC Guru staggered his

way over the valley of the shadow of death, but rerouted in good time. For a

second, it seemed the latest addition to the Hip-Hop morgue, which in only a

few months and years has tallied up scores of vibrant artists cut short in

their prime. But on the third day, Guru resurrected and returned from coma to

consciousness. Those who’ve enjoyed his brilliance for years celebrated the

news, but kept in check any excitement, well aware any moment the next shoe

might drop.

Take the last five years as reason to show

Hip-Hop artists love while their lungs still push and pull out oxygen. The Rap

blogosphere seems invested in a sense of immortality—thus Hip-Hop artists can

expect razor-sharp tongue slashing for just about anything deemed “wack” these

days. But once news of their death hits headlines, solemnity falls over the

nation of Hip-Hop. Their sins—forgiven. Within the last 5, Proof and Pimp C

passed, Baatin and O.D.B. escaped. And when my favorite producer J Dilla

disappeared, I choked for a second.

The Hip-Hop community knows a thing or

two about death. Its last two greatest rivals pushed each other off the cliff

over a decade ago. And those responsible for steering warm the pot of hate petered

out with swiftness, before the finger-pointing fest had chance to land their

direction. These days, death in Hip-Hop is second nature. Fans remain on edge,

unsure whose name is next to be struck out on the grim reaper’s#### list, unsure

who forgot to brandish the door post with blood stains—that the angel of death

may pass over. (And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where

ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall

not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.”) Any moment,

any second, any crack or crinkle could mean the extinction of another legend,

another rookie, another newborn whose baby steps hadn’t even yet full formed.

R.I.P., Dolla.

“I see death

around the corner, gotta stay high while I survive/

In the city

where the skinny ni**as die/”

Many Hip-Hop artists, for their part,

fetishize immortality. The brashness and rashness of the Beef industry

certainly turns faster the pages in the book of life, but so do the War

industry, the Wrestling industry, and the Boxing industry—and all the other outfits

where men clash for cash. And not all Hip-Hop artists equate death with a

freestyle—many-a-rapper have explored death for all its fear-imposing stature;

some even egging it on like an outmatched school boy playing psychological war

games on a bully. “Tell the tough guys we’re tougher than tough times,” Mos Def

ordered.

Tupac was perhaps the most audacious in

telling death to go f### itself: that before death’s claws could wrap around

his neck, he would vanish of his own accord. Tupac, like Malcolm X, lived

everyday without fear of the inevitable. Tupac believed his time was short—that

the good never quite get the chance

to set down their traveling bags—and the most to be made out of life didn’t

weigh a penny if not connected to a dialectic vision of revolution. So, when he

revealed, “Trying to keep it together, no one lives forever anyway/ Struggling

and striving, my destiny’s to die/,” we nodded with approval.

We knew what he was saying—not what

many-a-smug (Black) cappuccino-latte intellectuals levitating in ivory towers

have since suggested. We knew Tupac wasn’t nihilistic or fatalistic. We saw his

righteous rage at injustice, and his passion for protest, and his courage to

speak with the tongue of all prophets (hated in his day but worshipped

posthumously). And we acknowledged his god-given right to self-contradict. We

saw in him the candor most could never dream of—to take all the fierce vitriol

of a White Supremacist society and redirect it at the cowards who’ve lived high

off the oppression of Black men and Black women, off the subjugation of Brown

men and Brown women. We saw him breakdance on the valley of the shadow of death

and call evil out for a pop-and-lock

off.

We understood Tupac. But we don’t

understand Nas when he says Hip-Hop is dead—that death ought not to arouse in

us so much fear but courage and love; that death stops nothing, but only opens

up new frontiers; that

death is “not a period that ends a sentence; it’s a comma that punctuates

it to higher levels of significance.” Younger rappers, mostly of the Southern

breed, called for Nas’ legacy expunged. How

dare he! Monie Love lost

10 pounds trying to douse the flames oozing out of Young Jeezy’s head, as

he wailed over Nas’ premature eulogy.

But from the same prophetic perch Tupac

fired off his sermons, Hip-Hop’s premier professor, Nas, thundered, striking

out power lines: “Everybody sound the same, commercialize the game/ Reminiscing

when it wasn’t all business/ If it got where it started/ So we all gather here

for the dearly departed/.” Death, for Nas, called not for flowers and

gravediggers and handkerchiefs and Black suits but a heightened focus and

awareness to redeem the soul of a culture losing its religion. And death can

only upstage life if the living let it. The dead have lived and let live. The

life after death, Nas and Tupac testified, marks more meaning than the death

process.

So here we are—tip-toeing our way to and

fro, unsure whose bell is next to toll. And we exist as part of a community

where death has run a winning streak in recent times. But as it hovers over the

Hip-Hop horizon, stalking its next prey, the Hip-Hop whole, far and wide, would

have to stand tall come what may, ready to face death down and advice it to go

f### itself. Hip-Hop lives!

Lil Wayne Finally Sentenced To Prison

(AllHipHop News) After two separate sentencing delays, New Orleans rap star Lil Wayne was officially sentenced to prison today (March 8th) in Manhattan Criminal Court. Lil Wayne was sentenced to the prison term after the rapper admitted to possessing a loaded .40 caliber handgun that was found on his tour bus after a performance in New York in July of 2007. The rapper was taken away in handcuffs to begin serving his time on Riker’s Island, a prison that is just emerging from a scandal over preferential treatment of certain inmates and celebrities. In October of 2009, several prison officials resigned from the prison after it was revealed that Brooklyn rapper Foxy Brown and other inmates had been given preferential treatment while serving their time behind bars. Lil Wayne was originally supposed to be sentenced to prison on February 9th but the date was postponed to March 2nd, because the rapper needed root canals, in addition to having his platinum “grillz” removed. The March 2nd date was rescheduled to today (March 8th), after a fire broke out in Manhattan Criminal Court’s basement which sent eight people to the hospital.Lil Wayne could be out in as little as eight months. He is expected to remain in protective custody during his time behind bars. “Law is mind without reason. ……………..I’ll return,” Lil Wayne told fans on his Twitter page this morning.

WAKA FLOCKA IS SMART!

Waka Flocka is getting PIZ-AID! Peep this! One of my people in Gary, IN hit me up and told me that Waka got the kids upset. Why? This dude does a show for adults and a separate show for teens/kids. So, basically he did a show for the kids first and then one for the kids. Well, when the show was over for the kids, somebody got mad and started shooting the place up. My people L.O.D., Killah and P-Style Records were supposed to rock before Waka and didn’t. Thank, kids! But, Waka has a show for adults and kids…isn’t that the same things these days though?

 DIDDY’S B.I.G. COMING OUT PARTY

So, Diddy has never done a Biggie party in BK? Now, that is all about to change tomorrow as all of NY will celebrate the life and times of the Notorious One. I guess, I am interested in knowing how BK will receive the Dirty Money crew on Biggie’s Day. I also heard that Diddy may be trying to make March 9 an official holiday. We’ll see. But this party is supposed to be huge and everybody’s trying to go. People are auctioning off tickets and everything. Pretty crazy! 13 years since Biggie was killed…insane.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

Jeez! I’ll tell you! Its coming to an end! Police in South Korea have arrested a man and a women that let their child die from starvation. Well, there is a catch. The catch is these crazy fools spent hours and hours at an internet cafe caring for a virtual baby. They fed their real baby about once a day and the other hours of the day, they were tending to the fake one. They were a 41-year-old father and 25-year-old mother. The baby died after three months, but they said they were discovered much later. Anyway, the couple both lost their jobs and “lived” in this fake world to escape. Meanwhile, their baby died.

EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY

Jeez! What is wrong with people? I think America is imploding! Look at this one! Newark, NJ is taking the fail this time. There are six women in the city that rushed their a$$ to the hospital! Why? They were trying to get a$$ injections in Newark and they were using a crazy mixture of hardware-grade caulk, silicone and petroleum jelly! What the hell! All of the women were from the Dominican Republic, reports say. The New Jersey Department of Health reported the incidents, which took place at a Hotel in Newark. No charges have been filed against anybodyt that may have injected the freakin CAULK in these women!

The end is near!!!
