Hip-Hop Rumors:Drake Robbed? Gucci Mane Dead? 50 Cent’s Move!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor

and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have

whispered in our ear. Read on.

THE DAILY TWO SENSE

I can’t believe Eminem was in on the gag. Wow.

Oh, by the way, did you get to see my Top 5 Dead or Alive List. I don’t know how people can DISS some of the people on my list. I can understand you having your own preference, but dissing…SMH. Click here an check it out!

So you know I was out yesterday due to the Top 5, so some of these are going to be the ones that I didn’t put up on Thursday. Yeah, I did the rumors, but I wanted people to pay attention to my Top 5!

50 CENT BRINGS IN THE BIG GUNS!

50 Cent is not playing anymore, from what I’ve heard. I hear the G-Unit General is right out in Los Angeles working on new material. And guess who I am hearing he is working with? My sources tell me that 50 Cent is now working with Timbaland and Polow Da Don for his looming album. That’s basically it.

CHAMILLIONAIRE TO RETIRE?????

Alright, Here’s the deal on Chamillionaire. He had a live video chat going Wednesday night on his site. He had some big news. The Venom album will NOT be coming out EVER. He says is going to drop Mixtape Messiah 7 sometime soon. But after that…he says NO more mixtapes. He said he just isn’t feeling rap like he used to. It’s not the same anymore. He talked for over a half and hour to about 2000 people who were logged on. Now on his website it reads “The End Becomes Clear 6-12-09.” Goes this mean that he’s retiring soon? Sure doesn’t sound reassuring! Shout out to Jordan.

DRAKE ROBBED?

So, when I don’t believe rumor, I totally will admit that I don’t believe it. With that said, I heard a rumor that Drake had almost gotten robbed at the end of May in Toronto. The source said that it was a failed attempt at Vivoli’s Italian Restaurant in Toronto. They said that he was with a female and was robbed at gunpoint for his wallet and watch. The person said that one of the crooks was captured and bagged. So, I don’t know if this is bogus or if it was kept quiet.

THE JEWELRY JUX GOING ON IN H-TOWN?

There is a jeweler in Houston Texas and he’s got some people very upset. From what I understand, he’s the guy that makes a lot of the jewels for the likes of Plies, Gucci Mane, Slim Thug and others like Lil Boosie. The person that hit me up said that this particular jeweler isn’t doing right by his clientele. He told me that his “boy went to get his s**t appraised and another jewelry store showed him that is piece was fake all metal not real gold and it was just plated with some foggy diamonds.” I hope this isn’t the case, but we’ll soon find out, I bet!

KERI HILSON GOING TO BE SUED?

A talent agency in Atlanta is allegedly and rumored to be threatening to sue Keri Hilson and Universal Music Group over thousands of unpaid dollars for the services. A source told me that this talent agency in The A charges that they were outsourced to use its dancers rendered to the R&B artist. Some of the invoices go back to one year ago, they are alleging. I’m not sure who is behind this, but I can say they are HEATED.

GHOSTFACE TO RETURN ON THE R&B TIP?

The New Ghostface is on the way! He’s one of my favorite rappers. What I am hearing is that he is going to have a different sound when he comes back out. I am hearing that Ghost is going to have more of an R&B sound to it and he’s going to be working with Mary J. Blige on his first song. Remember when he did that remix of Beyonce’s “Summertime?” I am hearing that it will be flavored like that. Not mad! Here is the song by Ghostface!

Thanks, Sumit!

MICHELLE WILLIAMS IS BORING!

Now, I have to admit, I was in love with Kelly, but never all that interested in Michelle. Its time for her to have a scandal, but there is nothing in sight. Her laptop was recently stolen, but we won’t be getting any “treats.”

Goin to bed. I’m still gonna smile although one of baggage screeners at DTW stole my laptop! Hope they get permanent diarrhea!

It’s crazy bcuz everything else was in tact…. they didn’t take anything else but the laptop and power adapter. I am .38 HOT!!!

Since I don’t have my laptop… my responses to you guys individually will be slower. Bear with me.

Sorry guys… I have no nude pics to share from missing computer!!! LOL!! Some of yall have been askin!! *side eye*

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

What’s crazy is that Jay-Z/Eminem show is that rumor has it MC Hammer was there enjoying the show! They should have let him rock too.

Guess what? Ras Kass is out of Jail! Hip-Hop Hooray!

Jay-Z is dropping on Sept 11, 2009! GREAT!

Remember Oscar Grant? Of course you do! He was shot and killed at point blank range -unarmed and face down on the ground. Ex-police officer Johannes Mehserle will stand trial for MURDER.

Soulja Boy is corny for smoking weed on the net. Remember his PSA about being a role model? WACK.

I heard a weird rumor that Gucci Mane was found dead or something. To my knowledge, there is no truth in that rumor.

Drake is working with Rihanna…is that the source of the rumors?

RIP to David Carradine. They say he hung himself. Sad.

RIP to KoKo Taylor, a legend in the Blues music game.

There is no way that Michael Jackson’s kids are half Black. I just wanted to say that.

Hardcore rapper Necro was allegedly arrested the other day in Australia for fighting. I don’t know how true this is , but it seems to be valid. I heard it took place at Hyde Park Hotel in Perth.

Bobby Brown just had another kid with his manage/girlfriend. Congrats, Bob!

I’m not sure I know what to think about this year’s Hip-Hop Honors ONLY being about Def Jam. I know this is their 25th anniversary, but there are still a gang of rappers that need to be honored!

Mya is reportedly working with Sisqo on her next album. I don’t know what to think about that f***ery.

Lil Wayne has pushed back his rock CD to August. Hmmmmm…

EPIC WIN OF THE DAY

What an act of kindness this was! A Long Island convenience store owner was about to get robbed, but he flipped the script. There was a wanna-be robber coming into the store with a bat. But Mohammad Sohail handled his biz and pulled out his rifle to defend himself. The robber changed his tune fast. He dropped to his knees and begged for forgiveness. The man explained that he was just trying to feed his family. The store owner put down the gun, gave the man $40 and a loaf of bread. He told him, “But you better not go rob again.” Sohail did call the cops but he won’t be pressing charges.

LOL

I admit…I didn’t know what to make of this. Top 60 Ghetto Names.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

THERE IS A SITE THAT PROMOTES CRAZY S**T! Phoenix police have not arrested a man in Phoenix for the alleged rape of an unconscious woman live on the internet.

According to a court document, on Feb. 26, 2009, at about 5 a.m., 20-year-old Jonathan Hock set up the webcam built into his laptop and broadcast live as he sexually assaulted a woman whom he knew for less than a month as she lay in bed unconscious. The victim had reportedly been asleep for up to six hours before the assault occurred.

The woman was so wasted or something that she didn’t even know that she was being torn out the frame. The lady didn’t even know about it until her friends texted her and told her that it was on the internet. The police got the footage from the website in question and got the dude red handed. Furthermore, the dude had bragged about being able to get her and have his way with her without her knowledge. No word on what she was on or if he actually drugged her.

SIGNS PART 2: did you see this from the AP?

OKLAHOMA CITY – Confronted by two holdup men, pharmacist Jerome Ersland pulled a gun, shot one of them in the head and chased the other away. Then, in a scene recorded by the drugstore’s security camera, he went behind the counter, got another gun, and pumped five more bullets into the wounded teenager as he lay on the floor.

Now Ersland has been charged with first-degree murder in a case that has stirred a furious debate over vigilante justice and self-defense and turned the pharmacist into something of a folk hero.

Look at this! Oh BOY.

Those boys were stupid, but that man was even dumber.

Friday Fashion Feature: “Trend Alert: Bleached Denim”

I’m sure we’ve all grimaced at a bleach-stained piece of clothing coming out of the laundry at some point…

But this season, the look is all the rage when it comes to denim

From the runway: Bleached Jeans from Balenciaga’s Fall 2007 Collection

Bleach splattered jeans have made a comeback like many other 80’s trends, and brands are going very bold with it.

The look is hot for both men and women in all washes, but women may want to stick to skinny or bootleg fits – and of course denim shorts.

Coupling the bleached look with some destruction works great, like the pair on Rihanna:

Necro Fined For Assault In Australia

Brooklyn rapper Necro was fined $3000 for an altercation in Australia which ended with a man suffering a fractured cheekbone.

Necro, real name Ron Raphael Braunstein, was in the country as part of his current international tour.

While waiting outside of a café in the city of Perth, the rapper was accosted by an aggressive man over allegations of reckless eyeballing.

Necro’s defense lawyer claimed the unidentified man said to his client: “What the f**k are you looking at?!”

Allegedly, Necro attempted to diffuse the situation before it became violent.

“What’s your problem,” the Psycho+Logical Records CEO replied. “I am not looking at you but I can look at who I f**king want.”

After the man stood up to possibly make the dispute physical, Necro punched him several times before entourage member Christopher Catenacci jumped in and inflicted further damage.

Authorities were called by eyewitnesses, and both men were arrested at their hotel.

The timing of the apprehension and fining sentence resulted in Necro’s Hyde Park Hotel concert being cancelled.

At press time, Necro is scheduled to perform tonight in Adelaide before finishing up international dates in New Zealand and Norway.

Necro’s last studio album was the 2007 metal/Hip-Hop hybrid LP Death Rap.

Aleshia Steele: Taking Texas To The Game

In an era where women in Hip-Hop are often regulated to stereotypical roles such as vixens, there is an army behind the scenes that are bucking such confining notions. One such person is Aleshia Steele. Steele. Steele works at a major financial institution, but she is contributing to Hip-Hop in a major way with the Texas Urban Music Summit, a yearly conference she founded. The event takes place in Dallas and is presented by the infamous Core DJ’s. Steele is down to put it on for her city in a major way by offering entertainment and education for those trying to crack the industry glass ceiling.

Breaking through barriers has been a reoccurring theme in the life of Aleshia Steele and she’s making bolder steps forward to ensure they continue to crumble. The Texas Urban Music Summit takes place from June 5-7 and features a dedication to Rap-A-Lot, Suave House, the Core DJ’s, Play-N-Skillz, Gorilla Zoe, Dj Du2ce and a bevy of others.

AllHipHop.com: What inspired you to do the Texas Urban Music Summit?

Aleshia Steele:  Dallas has a lot of talent.  The music on the www.texasums.com website features artists from Dallas.  The spotlight is finally beaming here now.  What the city lacks is the resources and knowledge that’s needed in order to be successful.  There’s a whole movement  within the city of Dallas that needs to be exposed.  The purposes of the Texas Urban Music Summit is the enpower, educate and expose those who want to be successful in the entertainment industry.

AllHipHop.com: Can you explain how people feel in Dallas about the scene. We’ve seen Houston have its big moment. What about Dallas?

Aleshia Steele: The city feels like it’s our time now. We have our own swag, style, lingo, and sound.  I want to introduce that other markets/regions.  Now it’s time for the world to see just what Dallas has to offer.  That’s one of my missions with the Texas Urban Music Summit.

AllHipHop.com: How did you get into the music game?

Aleshia Steele: Now that’s a long story but I’ll summarize.  Hard work, dedication, destiny and fate.   I’ve always had the desire to be in the entertainment endustry on the executive level.    I interned for a conference in Dallas a few years ago.  After my first year of interning, the founder (Mic Moodswing) called a meeting with me and said he felt I had what it took to take his conference to the next level based on my work ethic and grind.  He asked if I would serve as VP of Operations and facilitate the Monday night entertainment meeting every week.  He said even though there was no pay involved, this would help me reach my goals.  I accepted even though there wasn’t any payment involved. I worked full time then as well so that taught me how to balance everything out.  I went to  Core DJ Retreats, TJs DJs, networking and really learning the game on my own dime. TJ Chapman has a quarterly conference in ‘Tallahassee Florida – TJs DJs.  I went to network and learn this game so I went with pen and pad taking notes, front and center, focused on the subject at hand.

I was ready to get the knowledge that was being dropped. TJ  was the moderater for the the DJ panel and he stopped the panel midstream and the audience by a show of hands how many came prepared with pen and paper to take notes.  Out of all the people in attendance, I was the only one with my hand up.  TJ turns to the DJs on panel and said “give her your contact information, how you like music submitted, email address, any information you want to tell because she wants to learn.  One by one the DJs on panel gave their contact info, and other info and I was writting away.  Tony Neal (CEO of the Core DJ’s) was one of the DJs on panel and after the panel discussion, he came and introducted himself to me, asked me my name and and where I was from, what my goals were in the game etc.  I shared my story with him and my goals in the game and he respected the fact that I came to an unfamiliar city to an event of that nature alone, and a female I may add,  to learn this game and network.  He said he was a believer in fate and I was there for a reason.  Two years later, “The Core DJs Present the Texas Urban Music Summit”…. fate, right? Tony Neal believed in me enough to put the Core DJ stamp on it making it the official industry event for Texas. He gave me that push I needed to go full speed ahead with my vision.  Thank you, Tony.

AllHipHop.com: How does your relationship to The Core Dj’s work?

Aleshia Steele: I am a Core DJ but on the Executive side.  I don’t spin/mix but the DJs told me I have the “DJ ear”.  The Texas Urban Music Summit is presented by the Tony Neal & Core DJs.  I’m the CEO and I put it all together.  The Core DJs not only consist of DJs, but Executives, Program Directors, Taste Makers, Graphic Designers, Label Reps, Models, so forth and so on.  That’s one of the things that separates the Core DJs from the other DJ coalitions; not to mention the Core is the largest DJ Coalition and we’re International now with over 500 DJs.  You have to be an individual in your city/market making moves and making an impact in this game.  Those aren’t the only qualifications but that gives you a general idea of how the Core DJs Organization is structured.

AllHipHop.com: Now, from what we understand, your have moved to the New York City region. How does this factor into your strategy for your company?

Aleshia Steele: Yes, I’ve recently relocated here.  I visited often and felt the energy of the city and thought it was a good fit for my personality.  I call it Hustleville.  They say if you can make it in NY you can make it anywhere.  Being here opens up other avenues for me that I didn’t have access to in Dallas.  It was definitely a good move personally and professionally.  I stepped out on faith and everything else fell in place.  Now that I’m living here, I’m planning my strategy carefully and thoroughly as you should.

AllHipHop.com: What were your early stages in the game, how did you get into music?

Aleshia Steele: When I was 15, I was invited out as a guest DJ on the K104 fm, the #1 radio station in Dallas Forth Worth still today.  You had to call in and leave a voice mail stating why you should be a guest DJ on the 6pm-10pm time slot.  If they liked your personality over the phone recording, you would receive a call from DJ Bad Brad inviting you to be his guest DJ.  I got a call back that following week and it was a great experience.  My DJ name was “Sweet K” (my middle initial begins with K).  Sounds kind of wack now but again, I was 15.  The interaction went well and I thought I would be nervous but it was like second nature.   DJ Bad Brad told me I did a great job and he invited me back out to DJ with him.  He said the station was starting a high school night to do the top 8 at 8:00 and he asked if I would bring 2 friends to represent my high school, Business and Management Center. Our mascot was “The Executive,” a man and women in business suites holding briefcases ironically enough.  Our radio name was The BMC Babes.” Just talking about it brings back memories.  That was my introduction the the music/entertainment business at the age of 15.  Must be destiny.

AllHipHop.com: All these men, have you had any bad experiences as a Black female executive?

Aleshia Steele: Not really any bad experiences.  But I have been tested.  Men tend to think that if you’re a female and you want to get in this game you either want to be a model, a groupie, or want to use them to reach your goals so in turn they may attempt to use you.  I’m not the one.  I’m on a mission and I’m not about that b.s.  I won’t be disrespected in anyway.  My mother taught me a long time ago that in order to get respect, sometimes you have to demand it and I have no problem letting that be known.  Once they see how I am as not only a woman, but a business women, I get nothing but respect.

AllHipHop.com: Who are your fave artists?

Aleshia Steele: Wow… I love music so that a pretty long list but some of my favs are

Tupac, Nas, Scarface, Donnell Jones, Biggie, UGK, Sade, Jadakiss, Faith Evans, Jay-Z, Floetry, Mary J Blige, B.G., Prince, Eight Ball/MJG, Chico Debarge, Method Man, T.I., Jamie Fox, Attitude just to name a few.

AllHipHop.com: What are our short and long term goals?

Aleshia Steele: I’ve met my short term goal already which was to transfer to NY to make my mark in the game and in the financial industry.  I have a few long term goals which pretty much go in line with my short term goal.  My ultimate long term goal is create exposure on a national level to the talent that does exist in Dallas. Some people are in this business for the fame.  I’m not focused on the fame. I’m focused on the success.   There are a lot of famous people out there but fame doesn’t necessarily equal success, you feel me?  My eyes are on the true prize. I also have another company; A. Steele Unlimited, a management firm.  I have 2 clients now, FedTyme Records, & Taronica (singer).  I have 2 new clients that I’m in negotiations with now.  Be on the look out for A. Steele Unlimited.

AllHipHop.com: Final words?

Aleshia Steele: Thank everyone who sponsored and attended the Texas Urban Music Summit.  A special thank you to the Tony Neal and the Core DJs, Definition DJs, and Richmind Records.  Thanks to everyone who participated in the Texas UMS and supported my efforts in any way.  You are appreciated.

The Last Word: Spike Lee At Odds With Tyler Perry, Anthony Hamilton On Dr. Dre’s Detox, and Brandy Finally Settles Her Accident Case

What’s up, Wordists? Another Friday has dawned. So what else

is new other than GM joining Chrysler at the bankruptcy hotel, Obama delivering

a great speech to the Muslim community and the 20th anniversary of the violent

crackdown on pro-democracy protestors at Tiananmen Square?

Thoughts and prayers for family and friends of Kung Fu star David Carradine (aka Bill from the Kill

Bill films), who died Thursday (June 4).

Congratulations to Kimora Lee Simmons and Djimon Hounsou on the birth of their

new baby.

Now that all bets are off, let’s get to…the Last Word for

the week ending June 5, 2009.

1.       Anthony Hamilton Wants a

Different Sound; Hopes for Stint on Detox

Since he entered the scene with his first album, Anthony

Hamilton has made good use of his talents. And while the results of those

pairings have seen the light of day, the same may not hold true for the

crooner’s work on Dr. Dre’s highly anticipated album, Detox.

Ask Hamilton about and he’ll say that he’s “just waiting to

see if it’s gonna stay or not.”

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed on that one,” the singer

told Billboard as he has no idea whether

or not “The Detox” will actually make the final cut. “Dres just very, very,

very good at getting what he wants. He’s pretty talented. When he’s producing

something he’ll try different ingredients, and he’ll make what he feels is the

best for the project. He just looks at the overall body of work, not just songs

or individual collaborations, which I think is smart.”

And while we wait to see if Dre keeps Hamilton’s work on the

much delayed opus, we can least take comfort in knowing the entertainer’s next

solo project will arrive much sooner than last year’s The Point of it All.

According to the singer, he may release something new “before the end of this

year, or the top of (2010).”

“It’s gonna be a blues, country, soul, rock kind of album on

the next one,” he explains. “I want to do something different. I may do some

orchestrated stuff. I’m not afraid of it. I have a fan base that loves me

enough to trust that I’m giving them. That’s a great place to be.”

 2.       Tyler

Perry Shows = Coonery and Buffoonery for Spike Lee

Does Spike Lee have something against Tyler Perry? Judging

by a recent interview Lee did with Ed Gordon on Our World with Black Enterprise, the answer may be ‘yes’.

The Do the Right Thing

filmmaker didn’t hold much back as he noted what he considered to be

“troubling” images found in Perry’s#### TV shows Meet the Browns and House of Payne. So much so that he compared the characters on those

shows to the ones found in minstrel shows.

“We’ve had this discussion back and forth. When John

Singleton [made Boyz in the Hood], people came out to see it. But when he did

Rosewood, nobody showed up. So a lot of this is on us!” Lee said. “You vote

with your pocketbook, your wallet. You vote with your time sitting in front of

the idiot box, and [Tyler Perry] has a huge audience. We shouldn’t think that

Tyler Perry is going to make the same film that I am going to make, or that

John Singleton or my cousin Malcolm Lee [would make]. As African-Americans,

we’re not one monolithic group, so there is room for all of that. But at the

same time, for me, the imaging is troubling and it harkens back to ‘Amos n’

Andy.’”

Lee continued to make his point during the show while

expressing that efforts can be made toward having better shows on the air

despite the popularity of Meet the Browns

and House of Payne.

“Each artist should be allowed to pursue their artistic

endeavors, but I still think there is a lot of stuff out today that is coonery

and buffoonery. I know it’s making a lot of money and breaking records, but we

can do better. I am a huge basketball fan, and when I watch the games on TNT, I

see these two ads for these two shows (Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns and House of Payne), and I am scratching my head. We got a Black President,

and we going back to Mantan Moreland and Sleep ‘n’ Eat?”

As always, Spike never fails to tell it how he sees it.  The question is do you agree or

disagree?

3.       Mo’Nique Sheds Weight for

Extended Love Connection

There’s no doubt that Mo’Nique is proud to be a big girl.

But the funny woman is looking a bit slimmer these days as she shed 40 pounds

in return for something more valuable.

“I decided that I had to get some of that off of me,”

Mo’Nique told Jet magazine as she cited

a conversations she had with her husband, Sidney Hicks. “What he said to me was

motivation. It was so gentle and sweet and he wasn’t judgmental. He said, ‘Baby,

that’s too much and I want you for a lifetime.’”

Armed with that type of motivation as well as the chance to

be around for her family, Mo’Nique adapted a healthier way of living as the

pounds started coming off. So much so that talk surfaced that the

actress/comedienne resorted to gastric bypass surgery to reach her goal, a claim

Mo’Nique says is far from the truth.

“I’m so scared of needles,” said the entertainer, who

weighed as much as 262 pounds at one time. “Baby, for them to take blood from

me, it’s a production. This was truly making the commitment to watch what I eat

and commit to working out. I stopped eating red meat.”

Currently, Mo’Nique weighs 224 pounds with hopes of slimming

down to 200 pounds. And if you’re worried about her abandoning her big girl

mind state, don’t worry.

“I want to say to big people, ‘Let’s be healthy big people,’”

Mo’Nique said. “Everybody can’t be a size 0 or 45, but let’s be healthy.’”

‘Nuff said.

4.       R. Kelly Enters the Mixtape

Game

It seems like ever since he arrived on the scene, R. Kelly

has embodied the qualities of your favorite rapper (minus the quotable lyrics).

Whether it be the swa g he displays in his videos or the numerous

collaborations with rhymesayers, Kells seems to come across as a rap star

trapped in an R&B star’s exterior.

So it should come as not too much of a surprise that Mr.

Kelly released his first ever mixtape with DJ Drama and DJ Skee this week. The

project, titled The Demo Tape, features

the crooner’s remixes as well as previously unreleased songs and new material from

his upcoming coming album. According to Kelly, the mixtape served as a vehicle

for going back to his mindstate before he became a household name.

“I took it all the way back to when I first started; all I

had was my demo,” the Grammy winner told MTV. “It’s a way to start fresh, be

humble. It’s like being a new artist. This is my demo tape for my fans.”

5.       Megan Fox Supports Legalized

Pot; Compares Acting to Prostitution

Megan Fox is a looker. No doubt. She’s one of the hottest

out right now.  And her opinions

are just as likely to keep your interest as she called for the legalization of

marijuana.

“I can’t tell you how much bulls**t I’ve been through

because I will openly say that I smoke weed,” the Transformers actress admitted

to Britain’s GQ magazine as she labeled

the politicians’ war on drugs as “propaganda.” “People look at it like it’s

this crazy, hippy, f**ked-up thing to do. And it’s not. I hope they legalize

it. And when they do, I’ll be the first person in line to buy my pack of

joints.”

And while getting legally high with Miss Megan paints an

interesting picture, don’t expect her to exhibit a love for filming love scenes

on the big screen. To hear her tell it, Fox has a sincere dislike of displaying

affection towards her onscreen lovers as she confessed to not liking the idea

of people paying to watch her feign attraction the big screen.

“When you think about it, we actors are kind of

prostitutes,” Megan said. “We get paid to feign attraction and love. Other

people are paying to watch us kissing someone, touching someone, doing things

people in a normal monogamous relationship would never do with anyone who’s not

their partner. It’s really kind of gross.”

In Other Words…

* Sade isn’t the only songstress coming back after a long

time away. Amerie’s forth album, In Love & War, is slated to hit stores in August. The project,

which is the songbird’s debut album on Def Jam, will include production from

Teddy Riley, Sean Garrett, Eric Hudson, Jim Jonsin, Rico Love and The

Buchanans. The  video for the

album’s first single, “Why R U,” will premiere Monday (June 8) on BET, while

the song’s officially release will follow on June 15.

* Brandy can now move on from the 2006 car crash she was

involved in. TMZ reports the singer has reached a settled with the kids of the

woman who died in the accident, which occurred near the interchange of the 405

and 101 freeways in Los Angeles. Court documents filed in L.A. County Superior

Court show that Awatef Aboudihaj’s two children will receive $300,000 each from

the settlement.

* The son of legendary singer Stevie Wonder started the week

off with an up-close and personal meeting with the LAPD. TMZ reports that Keita

Morris was taken into custody early Monday (June 1) morning after police

received a call regarding a verbal argument between Morris and an unidentified

woman that turned physical. Cops arrived to find marks on the woman and arrested

Morris on felony domestic violence charges.

Morris, who is Wonder’s son from former girlfriend Yolanda

Simmons, was held on $50,000 bond. He was later released after posting the bond

himself.

* Hell to the yes. She is coming back. Media sources report

that Whitney Houston will make her comeback official when she drops her new

album in September. The release, which was said to be in the final stages in

May, will indeed hit stores on September 1, as confirmed by the big wigs at

Houston’s record label, Arista.

* Funny how time flies. Can you believe that the members of

En Vogue are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year? And from the looks

of it, they are not letting it pass by without some kind of recognition.

In honor of the occasion, En Vogue’s four original members –

Cindy Herron-Bragg, Terry Ellis, Dawn Robinson and Maxine Jones –

reunited to perform their classic hits on A&E’s Private Sessions. To

further add to the nostalgia, the ladies are back in the studio working on a

new CD that is slated to come out in late 2009 and will hit the road on a US

tour that will kick off this month.

Private Sessions featuring

En Vogue will air at 9 a.m. EST /8 a.m. CST on Sunday (June 7).

Game With Fame: Busta Rhymes Vs. Grand Theft Auto IV

“I love the game and I’m a big fan of it; that’s why I agreed to come out here and do it. I’m not the nicest motherf***er because this is a complicated game” says Busta Rhymes when asked about his chances of going up head to head against XBOX Live members on Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost & Damned.

An avid GTA fan, Busta has agreed to participate in Rockstar’s “Game With Fame” challenge where celebrities with enough courage to step up and join in on the multiplayer mayhem. On any given day over three hundred thousand online gamers are trading shots on the insanely popular Grand Theft Auto IV series, and the Rap icon has a big bullseye on him.

Other than the obvious addictive bullet riddled warfare, Busta states his appreciation for GTA is on a broader scale: “For the most part I can watch this movie as it unfolds from just being a fan of the game itself. A lot of games are like movies, but there is something about Grand Theft Auto IV.”

He continues, “Outside of the cut-scenes that may happen, this game has a continuity feel of a movie. You don’t have to wait for a cut scene to experience how ill Grand Theft Auto is as soon as you put the game in. I really got a chance to fall in love with Grand Theft with my kids. My kids are incredibly stupid nice with this game.”

After going back and forth between some Patron Tequila and Sprite Green, Busta is ready to get on the sticks. He grabs his seat, controller, and XBOX headset in that order. “Aight, I’m ready to bust that ass” he jokes.

Round 1

Match Type: Deathmatch

Location: South Bohan

In an everyman for himself setting, the most kills wins. From the jump Busta is hunted down and punished with a barrage of weapons and vehicles flying at him at high speeds. He takes numerous losses but that doesn’t stop him talking trash: “Ya’ll can bust my ass but I’m going to lie on twitter!” Bus’ continues to fend questions from fans as the action winds down. BustarhymesGWF doesn’t make it in the top five of kills.

Round 2

Match Type: Team Deathmatch

Location: Alderney Correction Facility

Now with some backup, Busta fairs a little better. He catches a couple kills with the use of the trusty sawed-off shotgun. He runs up to the watchtower and takes aim and racks up more points. “Okay, now I’m back on my bullsh*t!” he exclaims. BustarhymesGWF comes in second after his teammate xKINGSLIMx.

Round 3

Match Type: Race

Location: Algonquin

For the final round everyone gets tested on their motor vehicle skills with a race around Algonquin on bikes. All the gamers are equipped with bats, chains, and nightsticks taking road rage to another level. From the jump Busta takes an early lead on the entire pack. Some riders get close but end up getting viciously clocked off their bikes. BustarhymesGWF cruises for the easy win. “Ya’ll should know I’m nasty with the cars and bikes and all that there” he jokes.

Post Game Wrap-Up

After finishing strong, Busta is all smiles. When asked about the possibility of lending his voice to any upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV episodes he enthusiastically replies: “I would probably be the craziest nastiest character in the history in the game just because of the entertainment value of it. I love my job and I’m in the business of entertainment so I would want to be the most entertaining figure in the game.”

Trillville’s Don P. Introduces ‘Rave Rap’ With Polow Da Don

Rapper/producer Don P has enlisted the support of Polow Da Don in crafting his first major release as a solo artist.

The Trillville front man revealed to AllHipHop.com exclusively that he is joining Polow’s Zone 4, Inc. imprint and prepping the release of his debut album, Global Warning.

Between the 2004 release of Trillville’s shared debut Kings of Crunk & BME Recordings Present: Trillville & Lil’ Scrappy and their 2008 follow up, Straight Up. No Chaser, Don P released two solo mixtapes, Target Practice and Target Practice 2, with the support of DJ Scream.

He also established himself as one of the South’s young producers to watch. Ironically, the relationship that brought him to Zone 4, Inc. was in fact built around production.

“Me and Polow always been cool,” Don P told AllHipHop.com. “I always go to him and try to sell beats to his artists. He always bought beats from me. And I was like, you know what, f**k that. I’m cool with the beats, but I’m about to crank this s**t back up. So I gave Polow a couple of my solo tracks that I did and he was f**kin’ wit it. He said it one time, and it was small talk. And the small talk grew into real talk. Cuz he was really feeling what I was doing. And that’s when he was like, ‘Let’s get everybody on the horn and let everybody know we ‘bout to collaborate.’ It’s gon’ be a massive project.”

Global Warning promises to be a departure from what Don P’s fans have come to expect from him.

However, the album will fit in with Polow’s eclectic portfolio, which includes hits records by Pop/R&B divas Ciara, Fergie, Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger and Mya, as well as Hip-Hop stars Ludacris, Birdman, Rich Boy, Nelly, Snoop Dogg and Young Buck.

The album will introduce a genre-melding sound which Don P has branded “Rave Rap.”

“I’ve always been a rave fan,” Don P explained. “We spent a lot of time in Germany and I really fell in love with the Rave s**t. A lot of my beats are Rave-based, but the thing is about what I do is that I add bass to it. So it’s a Rave sound, but the Hip-Hop comes with the bass and the snare. Basically it’s for all the people that work hard all day and who just like to let loose at the end of the day.”

Don P is currently prepping the release of his first solo single, “Money All The Time,” which borrows from Eddie Murphy’s 1985 hit single “Party All The Time.”

He also continues to enjoy the success of the latest release in the Target Practice series, which hit internet retailers in May.

He is also back in the studio recording with Trillville.

A release date for Global Warning has yet to be announced.

Hammer, Mick Boogie Discuss New Mixtape

Early 90s superstar Hammer is looking to bring his legacy to a new generation of fans with a retrospective mixtape entitled Hammertime.

The tape features Mick Boogie mixing new Hammer tracks with the original samples of his biggest hits, such as Rick James’ “Superfreak” and The Chi-Lites’ “Have You Seen Her.”

Instead of simply reissuing his hit tracks, Hammer will respit many of the verses from his signature songs.

“Superfreak” was the musical backbone for one of the biggest hits in Hip-Hop history, Hammer’s 1990 anthem “U Can’t Touch This.”

The original sample was recently reworked in 2006 by Just Blaze for Jay-Z’s standout “Kingdome Come” track.

Even today, Hammer credits his ability to rework past hits as the key to his success.

“The art of taking familiar grooves and branding them with your unique style and making them your own is what I take a lot of pride in,” the Oakland emcee stated to AllHipHop.com.

New school emcees coming out to support Hammer’s project include Mistah FAB, Chip ThaRipper, and 6th Sense.

When asked about Hammer’s Hip-Hop legacy, Mick Boogie framed the Oakland native as a survivor and re-inventor.

“He’s outlasted his 90s pop-rap contemporaries and, as we approach 2010, reinvented himself as a shrewd businessman,” Mick explained to AllHipHop.com. “The ‘proper’ thing to do was make this project!”

Included in the 24-track mixtape are revealing interludes where Hammer reflects on his life, the industry, and his musical legacy.

The Hammer and Mick Boogie Hammertime mixtape is available now for download at www.thepressplayshow.com.

VH1 Hip-Hop Honors To Celebrate Def Jam

While this year’s VH1 Hip Hop Honors ceremony will mark six years since VH1 started the annual tradition of celebrating the best in Hip-Hop culture, it will mark two firsts as well.

VH1 has announced that this year’s award ceremony, to be held on Tuesday, October 12, will pay homage to Def Jam Records in recognition of the legendary label’s 25th anniversary.

This year will also mark the star-studded event’s departure from the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, relocating to the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn, New York.

30 Rock star and Saturday Night Live alum Tracy Morgan will reprise his role as host for the third consecutive year.

Former Yo! MTV Raps host Fab 5 Freddie and author/filmmaker Nelson George will also continue to serve as the program’s executive producers.

In previous years, the VH1 Hip Hop Honors have celebrated the accomplishments and contributions of pioneering artists including KRS-One, Public Enemy, Sugarhill Gang, Big Daddy Kane, Ice-T, Ice Cube, Rakim, Cypress Hill and MC-Lyte.

Through interviews with the honorees and their peers and tribute performances by newer artists, the program has simultaneously allowed the original Hip-Hop generation to reminisce while introducing the next generation to those who paved the way.

Each year, the VH1 Hip Hop Honors has also recognized iconic films, movies and individuals who helped to mold the culture, from the graffiti movement, honored in 2004, to R&B great Isaac Hayes, who was celebrated last year just two months after his untimely death.

However, 2009 will mark the first time a record label is commemorated.

“It is impossible to pay tribute to the best in Hip-Hop without recognizing Def Jam Records,” says VH1’s EVP of Music Production Lee Rolontz. “Throughout the years VH1 has honored numerous artists from the Def Jam label, but due to the magnificent impact that Def Jam as a company has made on not only Hip-Hop culture but pop culture as a whole, we thought they definitely deserved the opportunity to be honored.”

With Def Jam serving as this year’s top honoree, the 2009 VH1 Hip Hop Honors promises not only a gathering of the bonafide superstars who have come to represent the label, either in the studio, like Public Enemy, Kanye West, Rick Ross and Rihanna; or in the office as Rick Rubin, Russell Simmons, LA Reid and Jay-Z have done.

In addition to Def Jam’s musical legacy, VH1 Hip Hop Honors will also celebrate the Hip-Hop brand’s impact on comedy, spoken word, fashion and pop culture in general.

Additional details about the 2009 VH1 Hip Hop Honors, including performers, presenters, specific honorees and related programming will be made available later this summer at VH1.com.
