Knockout Nation: Mayweather-Mosley Promise Victory, Johnson Wins, DeMarco-Valero Shootout Tonight, Adamek-Estrada, Tszyu vs. Pryor Fantasy Clash!

Mayweather-Mosley Release First Statements Since Fight Signing

Now that both men have officially signed on for their May 1 superfight, Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley have begun the inevitable subtle trash talk against each other.

In the wake of his sensational knockout of Antonio Margarito last January, Mosley had launched a campaign to get Mayweather in the ring, even going as far to call out Floyd face to face in the ring following Mayweather’s decision win over Juan Manuel Marquez. Contrary to experts, Mosley thinks he’ll secure an easy victory since he sees no advantages in this fight for his opponent.

“I have always wanted to fight Floyd and now it is finally coming true,” Mosley said a prepared statement. “I am already in great shape and ready to show everyone on May 1 that I am stronger, faster and better than he is. I will have no problem beating him.”

Mosley’s lack of activity as a 38 year old fighter has been noted as a knock against him going into the Mayweather bout. By fight night, he’ll have been out of the ring for 15 months facing an opponent who relies heavily on movement, especially against larger opponents.

“I’ve been in training camp, sparring, staying in the gym working,” Mosley told the LA Times. “I’m ready. I’ll go back to training, and believe me, people will see the good Sugar Shane. There’s no rust on me. I never stay away from the gym too long. I’m a fighter, I love boxing, it’s what I do.”

On Mayweather’s end, the undefeated multi-division has done a 180 in his assessment of Mosley. Last year, Floyd on ESPN TV and in this very column derided Mosley as a steroid abusing, washed up athlete.

Reluctantly, Mayweather acknowledged Mosley’s formidable skills, but maintained he’s still a level below him.

“This one is definitely for the fans as I wasn’t going to waste anyone’s time with a meaningless tune-up bout and asked to fight Shane immediately,” he explained. “I have said ever since I came back to the sport that I only wanted to fight the best. I think Shane is one of the best, but come May 1, he still won’t be great enough to beat me.”

At 32 years old, Mayweather faces his own inactivity issues, having fought just one bout since December, 2007.

Look for an official press conference within the week, rumored to take place in New York City. Both men are also said to be in Miami for Super Bowl weekend to beat the promotional drums.

Glen Johnson Scores Impressive KO on ESPN

41 year old Glen Johnson (50-13-2, 34 Kos) proved last night that he still is a force in the light-heavyweight division with a 6th round KO of #7 RING ranked contender Yusef Mack (28-3-2, 17 Kos) on Friday Night Fights.

Johnson pressured Mack all night and forced the younger man to go straight by jabbing his way in and working hooks. Mack would counter sparingly on the inside, and attempt to roll with the hook Johnson rained on him.

Early in round 4, Mack unwisely traded on the inside and got the worst of it, being forced to retreat. Mack rebounded in the second half, scoring well on the inside with hooks on a slower Johnson.

In the 6th Johnson trapped Mack in a corner, and caught him with a hard overhand right counter to score a knockdown.

Johnson was patient, and methodically wore Mack down further with hooks to the body before pinning dropping him again, this time with a left jab-straight right.

Mack hit the canvas shortly thereafter on a short left, prompting the referee stoppage.

The win earns Glen Johnson an IBF title shot against undefeated Tavoris Cloud (20-0, 18 KOs).

“Tavoris Cloud is a tough fighter, an all-action guy. The type of guys I like to fight,” Johnson said in his post-fight interview. “They come in there no-nonsense and go about their business and that works well with me ‘cause I do the same thing. I think that’s going to be an explosive fight and a fan-favorite fight. I’m looking forward to fighting him.”

DeMarco-Valero Go To War Tonight

One man will be left standing and the other viciously KO’d when WBC lightweight titlist and knockout specialist Edwin Valero (26-0, 26 KOs) makes his second defense against Antonio DeMarco (23-1-1, 17 KOs) tonight (February 6) on Showtime.

Because of 2001 motorcycle accident, Valero failed MRI in New York and has struggled to get sanctioned to fight in the US. To date, Texas is the only seat that has cleared him to fight.

Because of this, Valero has built a strong internet following as nearly all of his fights have been confined to Youtube. Of his 26 KOs, 19 have been in the first round.

De Marco is a tall lightweight at 5’10, and has rose to prominence after a strong 2009 that saw him post 3 stoppages over solid competition in Almazbek Raiymkulov, Anges Adjaho, and Jose Alfaro.

This is a crossroads fight and huge test for each fighter. Both are the best pugilists of each other’s resume. DeMarco has never seen power like Valero’s but he’s also been tested and excelled in several firefights. Valero has steamrolled most of his competition easily and it’ll be interesting to see how he handles DeMarco’s height.

As far as I’m concerned this fight is 50-50, and it’ll be surprising to see this go more than 6 rounds. Because of DeMarco’s has had better tests in his career, I’ll go out on a limb and say he pulls off the upset.

Adamek Continues Heavyweight Experiment

Cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek (39-1, 27 KOs) also fights tonight in Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center against Jason Estrada (15-2, 3 KOs).

This will be Adamek’s second fight in heavyweight, following his easy 5th round KO of faded Andrew Golota last October.

The Polish champ has upped his weight to a ripped 220 pounds. But it remains to be seen if his frame can support the weight without sacrificing speed and stamina.

“Cruiserweight was more difficult for me. I always had a problem getting to the weight,” Adamek told ESPN. “I feel very good at this weight. I feel faster. The difference in training is the sparring partners are heavier, 240, 250 pounds, but I feel stronger because my weight is natural.”

If he wins, HBO has confirmed they are looking to have Adamek face Chris Arreola on April 24.

“Estrada is a good boxer, but I am serious about this fight. I need to win. It is very important in order to move up for a heavyweight title,” Adamek explained. “We have this fight. Right now I concentrate on that. Maybe in April, Arreola. We’ll see. Maybe one more fight after that and then I will be ready for a championship fight. Right now I must win against Estrada.”

As you can tell from Estrada’s KO record, Adamek’s promoter Main Events selected an opponent with a low likelihood of testing their fighter’s ability to take a heavyweight punch. This fight will serve as a tune-up for an Arreola fight, and a gauge of how well Adamek carries the extra weight. If he looks bad, there will be an evaluation of whether he’s better suited for cruiserweight.

The fight can be seen online for $9.99 at gofightlive.com. The expected live turnout is 10,000.

News and Notes

–          Rafael Marquez has promised the “mother of all wars” in his fourth bout with Israel Vazquez on May 22. If he wins, he wants Juan Manuel Lopez next. “My punch is much more powerful. If I beat Irsael, I’m going to look for a fight with Juan Manuel Lopez. I can beat him. I am looking to get the big fights in the 2 or 3 years I have left in the game.”

–          The management of junior middleweight contender James Kirkland is hopeful that he can be back in the ring by August. Last year, Kirkland received a 24 month jail sentence for illegally purchasing a firearm as a convicted felon. He’s had six months shaved off for time served, and is looking to get another 100 days off due to good behavior. His last bout was a 6th round TKO of Joel Julio in March 2009.

–          The German press are buzzing that WBC champ Vitali Klitschko may face former WBA champ Nicolai Valuev on May 29. Since WBA champ David Haye is tied up with a mandatory defense against John Ruiz in April, Vitali may be trying to post a better win over a common opponent to build to a showdown later this year.

Mythical Matchup of the Week: Aaron Pryor vs. Kostya Tszyu

The junior welterweight division may not have the glamour or history as the weight classes it’s sandwiched between (lightweight and welterweight), but the 140 pound class has produced some legendary fighters since its modern creation in 1959.

Two of those elite fighters are Aaron Pryor (39-1, 35 KOs), who ruled the division in the early 80s, and Kostya Tszyu (31-2, 25 KOs), who cleaned out his weight class in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Pryor was a whirlwind of a fighter, throwing dozens of punches at a time and drowning opposition in never-ending pressure.

Unlike many fighters of that mold, Pryor had power and secured many early and mid round KOs

He first hit the national scene with a dominant destruction of legendary champ Antonio Cervantes to win the WBA title. The aged Cervantes was wily enough to get a flash knockdown in the 1st, but got an unmerciful pounding in the subsequent 3 rounds before a needed ref stoppage.

Pryor was an active champ making 10 defenses (8 by knockout) from 1980-1985. Two of those defenses were epic battles with fellow Hall of Famer Alexis Arguello, who was attempting to be the first man to win titles in 4 different weight classes.

Pryor’s downfall was not an opponent, but drug abuse. When he tried a comeback in 1987 after 2 years out, he suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Bobby Joe Young, and only fought 3 insignificant bouts over the next 3 years before retiring due to eye problems.

Kostya Tszyu was started quickly in the early 90s due to his amateur background (which includes a win over the late Vernon Forrest), facing former world champion Juan La Porte in just his 4th bout. By his 14th, Tszyu had won the IBF title by knocking Jake Rodriguez in 6 rounds.

A stalking, extremely heavy-handed puncher, Tszyu seemed primed for a long reign beating vets like Roger Mayweather before being upset by Vince Phillips in 1997, losing an exciting 10th round TKO to Vince Phillips.

Tszyu credited the fight as a learning experience in pacing and won the WBC title the in 1999 by KOing slick boxer Miguel Angel Gonzalez.

He strung off eight defenses with several notable KO victims in Julio Cesar Chavez, Shamba Mitchell (2X), Jesse James Leija, and Zab Judah.

Like Pryor, inactivity hurt Tszyu in the end. Plagued by injuries, he only fought 2 bouts over 2 years (2003, 2004) before being faced with a hungry Ricky Hatton in 2005.

In his UK backyard, Hatton grinded down the normally durable Tszyu over 11 hard rounds with mauling and low blows. Making no excuses, Tszyu never fought again.

As seen above, both men have unquestionable credentials, facing the best top opposition throughout their careers.

Pitted against each other, Pryor and Tszyu offer contrasting skill sets that will force adjustments and memorable exchanges.

Pryor’s punch activity and intelligent pressure will pose huge problems for Tszyu, who would be forced into fighting backwards and defensively for much of the fight. The issue is not the pressure alone, but the fact that Pryor uses many angles to turn opponents, and when focused was great at slipping punches and countering on the inside.

Tszyu’s possessed great accuracy, and his challenge would be creating the space to drive him his outstanding right hand which would do damage. Pryor had a great chin, but he could be stunned and dropped early (Cervantes, Arguello) when he got too wild with his pressure attacks. Case in point, see the shot below that dropped Pryor against Akio Kameda in the first round.

Tszyu and Pryor are both good hookers, but Tszyu usually throws much straighter punches. More often than not, Tszyu’s punches would land first if given the space. It’s unclear if Kostya is strong enough to push Pryor off like he did Sharmba Mitchell in their first bout, but he’ll want to do whatever possible to get Pryor to mid and outside range. There, Tszyu can seek to put him on the end of his best punch, like he did to Zab Judah in his most famous KO.

It’ll be a taxing battle for both men, but I feel Aaron Pryor has a style that’s been proven a nightmare to Tszyu with lesser skilled opponents. Even in his prime, Tszyu struggled and was KO’d when Vince Phillips crowded him and made him fight going backwards. Hatton added more fouls, but did the same thing years later. Tszyu was still able to land bombs on Ricky, but in most instances he was leaning backward and not getting full extension and power.

With Pryor, Tszyu won’t get the punching space he needs to be most effective. In addition, Pryor would maintain angles and keep turning Tszyu to prevent the powerful Russian from getting set. However, Tszyu’s too good to get completely shut out, and I’m certain Pryor would get dropped at some point by Tszyu’s right, which was many times set up beautifully by Kostya’s hooking jab.

My prediction is Aaron Pryor by TKO10 in a war that sees him dropped early.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Diddy’s Baby Moms Spar? Foxy Leaker Revealed? Buck Upsets Fan

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

BABY HURTING OVER WAYNE GOING TO JAIL

I remember Baby did an interview with AHH Radio and he talked about how uncomfortable he was with Lil Wayne going to jail. Even though I heard that certain people are going to make sure nothing happens to Wayne in jail, Baby is having a hard time with this reality, rumor says.

I’m not sure where this quote came from but it’s floating on the internet.

“I’ve been with him forever. It will be the first time in my life I’ll not be reachable to him. We work together, we’re on the road together. We’re always together. I try not to even think about it… I’m losing something in my soul.”

Baby is going to move Cash Money to NYC until Wayne is out.

YOUNG BUCK DISSING G-UNIT

I can’t lie. I didn’t read all this, but it deals with Young Buck dissing G-Unit and some some other stuff.

What’s up Illseed? I just wanted to let you know about the Young Buck show last night, Thursday February 4th in Downers Grove, IL. Now I am a diehard Buck fan but left the venue extremely disappointed. I had a feeling something funny would happen cuz 1) why was he performing in a upper class suburb of Illinois and not the city of Chicago itself? and 2) the tickets were only $15 lol. I give Buck credit, he can def carry himself well live on stage w/ minimal help (dj did some ad libs). But here’s why I was p#####. About 20 minutes into the show the power at the venue “went out” for about 2 minutes. Then the lights came back on but Young Buck had already gone back stage and never reappeared. There was no announcement by the venue saying what was going on or letting us know if he was gonna finish his set or what, they just acted like it never happened lol. So in the 20 minutes he did perform, all i got 2 hear was his 1st verse from “I’m Back” his 1st verse from “Stomp” (“my click of gorillas aint got their g-units on”) lol, “Shorty WAnna Ride” and “Get Buck”. That’s it. I was hoping for better song selection, especially after him opening w/ some mixtape s### like “I’m back” but then he went into all his singles etc. In addition to that he spent 5 of that 20 minutes asking the crowd if we like to get high and how drunk we were etc and playing snippets of “I got 5 on it” and “Mary Jane” while just talking over the beat, WTF?!. As an avid listener of his and someone who rearranged his work schedule and took an additional 45 minute commute from downtown to catch this show, I’ll tell you it was extremely frustrating to have it turn out this way. Buck even said “without you guys there’d be no Young Buck”. Too bad that didn’t factor into the way the show went down.

THE LEAKER IS….

So, everybody has been pointing the finger at EZ Moe Bee, the producer of that Foxy Brown record, but I’m getting that it’s another person. There is a rapper named BAM on the song  and I am getting that he leaked the record, not Moe Bee. It’s been on his MySpace page for a while…

DIDDY’S BABY MOMS GO AT IT

Kim Porter says “She’s not on my level.”

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

Drug dealers still put money to back rappers? I’m hearing some interesting stuff no fit to print.

Rihanna gets about 100k for an appearances. At least that’s what she’s being getting at these fashion shows.

Ex-Dallas Cowboy Michael Irvin has been accused of RAPE. The chick says it happened in Las Vegas about three years ago. She’s out for the paper, but nothing criminal is on deck.

Apparently, Chopper City from Da Band was drunk on the internet and he said that he smashed Lil Wayne’s baby mom and punked Slim Thug in Houston. Drunk  people…whew!

Most people don’t think Wayne fell off by the way…he just needs to leave rock alone.

Nas any Mary J. B. had a thing back in the day? I never heard that one until today.

I got this from Moveon.org: “AIG—the bailed-out insurance giant—will give out another $100 million in bonuses. Seriously?”

Lady Gaga is doing her own charity for Haiti. But she’s not doing it with anybody like “Quincy Jones.”

Ewwwwwww! There is a John Edwards sex tape.  The tape is in the hand of a judge now.

Howard Stern may be the next “Simon” as American Idol fishes for a suitable replacement.

In case you didn’t know Tila Tequila came back to twitter after three days.

EPIC WIN OF THE DAY

This has nothing to do with Hip-Hop. It’s just some women contorting their body’s crazy!

Shyne Turned Away By UK Immigration Officials

(AllHipHop News) Recently freed rapper Shyne was denied entry into the United Kingdom early yesterday morning (February 4).

The rapper attempted to enter London via Cancun, Mexico, because he cannot enter the United States.

He was deported from the United States and sent to Belize upon his release from prison, after serving eight years in prison for a high profile shooting involving Sean “Diddy” Combs and then girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.

According to reports, Shyne was turned away when he arrived at the airport in the United Kingdom because of problems with his travel documents.

He was heading to the UK to record songs for his upcoming album, the majority of which is reportedly being recorded in Belize.

A number of artists have already been to the island nation to record with Shyne, who was released from the Woodbourne Correctional Facility in October of 2009.

Shyne is featured on the new single “All My Life,” which features Mavado and Akon and is taken from DJ Khaled’s upcoming album Victory.

Tila Tequila Launches Label; Signs Raz B.

(AllHipHop News) Just days after deleting her Twitter account, Internet celebrity Tila Tequila revealed she is launching a record label and management company.

According to Tequila, she recently launched Little Miss Trendsetter Management LLC in addition to launching Tila Tequila Records.

The first artist on the record label is former B2K member Raz B.

“The reason why I am doing all this is to prepare for when my baby comes I did this ALL FOR MY CHILDREN AND NOT FOR MYSELF,” Tequila wrote on her GlobalGrind blog. “I wanted to make SURE, that when I have a baby, that It would be a time where I wouldn’t have to work so much or worry about income and raise my children. yes it will be hard to be a single mother raising all of these kids by myself, but it’s so worth it.”

Last weekend, Tila Tequila’s name was splashed all over the headlines, after she implied that gangster rapper The Game could be the father of her unborn child.

The Game appeared on TMZ and denied the reports.

“I was actually in the studio thinking about the song Tupac made about his unborn child. My son’s mother is pregnant, so I’m in that lane,” Game explained to TMZ. “I guess she took it and ran with it…Recently she was in the studio to mess with my boy Avante Rose. I didn’t see her, I was there with Dre. I wouldn’t use 50’s stick [to sleep with her]…I never seen her. But you know [the wrestler] Hunter Hearst Helmsley also goes by the Game, maybe she’s talking about him”

Before deleting her Twitter account, Tila Tequila vowed to prove that The Game was indeed the father of her child.

“Just wait. 9 months from now I’m gonna take the paternity test to PROVE IT!” Tila Tequila Tweeted. “Game just f*cked himself. SMH… Yea im upset that he didn’t tell me about the other baby he had on the way, thats why he asked me to go 2 studio 2 tell me about it!!! So once I found out I was f*cking p#####!”

No release date was available for Raz B.’s debut on Tila Tequila’s record label.

Drag-On Talks Upcoming Album, Ruff Ryder Reunion

(AllHipHop News) Former Ruff Ryder rapper Drag-On recently inked a deal with Universal to release his upcoming album. It’s been three years since Drag-On’s last album, Hood Environment.

Now he’s ready to step back into the industry and put himself and his team back on the map.

“I got the album dropping real soon as a joint venture between Universal and my record label called Hood Environment,” Drag-On told AllHipHop.com. “I’m excited that I’m coming back and I’m also excited that a lot of other people are excited to hear that I’m coming back. That right there let’s me know I have a purpose in this industry.”

Rumors have been circulating the internet for months about a possible Ruff Ryders Reunion.

With the departure of Eve, members of The LOX working on their own solo projects, and DMX’s consistent legal troubles, their super producer Swizz Beatz moved on to other projects.

Ruff Ryder’s CEO Waah Dean has officially confirmed that the Ruff Ryder album, Ruff Ryders Evolution: Generation, is a work in progress and is almost completed.

Drag-On talked briefly about the upcoming re-union.

“We just sat at the table with all the Ruff Ryders and really got it poppin. I’m really looking forward to it,” Drag-On stated.

The album will include features by Eve, The LOX, DMX, Drag-On, and a host of new members of the Ruff Ryder camp.

Soulja Boy Sentenced To 12 Months Probation

(AllHipHop News) A judge has sentenced popular rapper Soulja Boy to a year of probation over an October 2009 incident in Henry County, Georgia.

The rapper was among a group of about 40 people who were shooting a video in an abandon house.

When police officers arrived to investigate complaints in the area, the group of people assembled fled on foot.

Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, was arrested and sent to the Henry County Jail, but was quickly bonded out.

The rapper admitted to the charges in court earlier this week and was sentenced to 12 months probation and given a $1,000 fine.

The arrest hasn’t slowed Soulja Boy down over the past year.

He is currently working on a book titled Teenage Millionaire, he recently wrapped up shooting on two movies with actor Nick Cannon and is producing tracks on Kanye West’s new album.

“I produced a few songs for Kanye’s album,” Soulja Boy told AllHipHop.com. “Its really special for me and I think it’s going to be really amazing. We we’re in the studio in Los Angeles. I did one track that I know people are going to go crazy over.”

Friday Fashion Feature: Black History Month Fashion Tribute: Andre Benjamin

In celebration of Black History Month, we will randomly be choosing African-American style icons to pay tribute to – past and present. From actresses to rappers and political figures, we will recognize those who stand out in the world of fashion. We’re kicking it off with Andre Benjamin, aka “Andre 3000”, a man brought new exciting flavor to the hip hop world. The rapper, actor and clothing designer is known for rocking outlandish outfits consisting of fedora hats, high waisted pants complete with suspenders, bow ties, odd combinations of colors, prints and fabrics.

As AskMen.com put it, “His musical talent and contributions to OutKast are well-known and fans soon learned that his stage wardrobe was nothing more than an evolution or re-interpretation of his own personal style culled from his many interests and penchant for English-inspired vintage clothing”.

His classic preppy swag translates into his very own Benjamin Bixby clothing line, which brings “rough luxury” to menswear.

Unlike many rapper-driven clothing lines, Benjamin Bixby has a classic and sophisticated look. Initially inspired by the late 1930s Ivy League athletics, the line features tartan prints, tweed suits, rich knits, duffel coats, high quality selvedge denim and more.

“For an African-American guy to be a prep, that’s a dichotomy,” he told The New York Times,“Prep style comes from mostly affluent families who just wear these cool clothes. But when you come from a background that has more struggle, your take on it will be different. There’s a certain kind of rebel to it.” “I can’t pretend I’m from New England or I’m at school at Harvard or Oxford, but when you think of men’s dress, you have to give a nod to England,” he said. “They created it all and brought it to America. We calmed it and made it cool.”

The Last Word: Will Smith For Pres? Chris Brown’s V-Day! John Legend’s Wait.

How is everything, everybody? We made it through another week. So what came out of it? Well, there was the group of American missionaries that were charged Thursday (Feb. 4) with kidnapping and conspiracy for trying to take 33 children out of Haiti, Oscar nominations being announced, James Cameron’s Avatar surpassing Titanic to become the highest domestic grossing film ever and the Super Bowl being played on Sunday.

Get well wishes go out to singer Etta James, who is recovering from sepsis  caused by a urinary tract infection while being hospitalized in Southern California. Shout out to the sounding boards for taking time out to make time for change.

So here we go with … the Last Word for the week ending Feb. 5, 2010.

 1.       John Legend Questions Public School System While Waiting for Superman

It looks like John Legend is directing his talents towards a deeper impact as he helps put the spotlight on America’s public school system.

The issue takes center stage in the new film, Waiting for Superman, which recently premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film, which examines failing school systems around the country, offers a look at students, whose chance of a bright future depend on  long shot lotteries that determine which children will get to attend a choice alternative school. For the Davis Guggenheim-directed feature, Legend contributed a new song titled “Shine.” The tune, which received high marks from Guggenheim, can be heard during the closing credits for Waiting for Superman.

“Shine” “was completely inspired from seeing the film and seeing the stories of the children in the film, because it follows these kids who have potential, have a certain desire to do well,” Legend told the Associated Press. “They are in circumstances where they are surrounded by failing public schools, and they see the light, they see a few schools in their area that are succeeding. But you have to win a lottery to get into these schools.”

Although he hopes Waiting for Superman will motivate the people to do something  regarding public schools, Legend knows it will be a challenge to find an audience for get the documentary.

“I feel that this film is really inspiring, it’s really moving. It has all the things you want out of a good film, the singer said. “The drama and the suspense and the interesting characters that you want to follow. It also teaches you something important about what’s going on in our country.”

As it stands now, the rights to Waiting for Superman have been purchased by Paramount Vantage. Look for the documentary to hit theaters later this year.

2.       Chris Brown, Former and Current Day 26 Members Set the Mood With Valentine’s Day Mixtapes

When you think of Valentine’s Day, it usually involves flowers, romance and some quality time with someone special. So why not have a mixtape to put on to set the mood just right?

At least that’s what Chris Brown wants you to do as he releases his forthcoming R&B mixtape on Feb. 14. The DJ Drama-hosted offering, called In My Zone, will feature Brown putting his own stamp on songs made famous by other artists.

According to the singer, “I got a lot of new songs and doing all the remixes to everybody’s records from Trey Songz to Yo Gotti. I got a lot of new songs I’m putting on there too.”

In addition to work by soul singers and rappers, Brown will do remixes to pop songs on the 32-song mixtape. The crooner recently invited fans to take a look at him working on the project as he was seen recording “I Invented Head,” a more explicit version of Songz’ hit single “I Invented Sex.”

Brown won’t be the only person giving music to fans on Valentine’s Day. Former Day 26 member Qwanell “Que” Mosley will officially take the first steps to solo stardom with his mixtape, Q Files.

The upcoming mixtape comes on the heels of the recent debut of Que’s first solo song, “Make It.” Not to be outdone, Que’s former Day 26 comrade Will Taylor will release a mixtape of his own called Sex Tape. The lead single from that offering is a track called “Sex Conversation.”

3.       Jessica Alba Seriously Embraces Latino Heritage With Spanish Lessons

Life as a Latino has finally set in for Jessica Alba. The actress, who can be seen in the upcoming all-star romantic comedy Valentine’s Day, is taking steps to triumph over critics who question whether she’s a true Latina by fully embracing her Mexican heritage. The move comes as Alba admitted to confusing a lot of journalists when she first became famous. As a result, the critics became vocal about her lack of Spanish speaking skills and found fault with her looking Latina but not being able to speak Spanish. The feedback eventually took its toll on Alba, who confessed to having trouble handling questions from interviewers surrounding her heritage.

“I didn’t want to misrepresent Latinos and I didn’t know how to defend myself. But I went to my room and I cried all night. Since then, I’ve preferred not to comment on the subject,” the entertainer told Siempre Mujer magazine.  “I tried to explain to them that, in this country (America), I’m considered Latina and, thus, I consider myself Latina as well. I grew up eating enchiladas. Moreover, in my house the only American-style dish we ate was spaghetti with meat… I identify with Mexicans. It’s in my blood whether or not I speak Spanish.”

As with all things, time and experience give way to a clearer way of thinking. For Alba, that included making a serious effort to become fluent in Spanish, not only for her, but for her daughter Honor, whom she wants to have the best of both worlds.

“I know the basics, but I just hired a professor that specializes in Hispanic studies to teach me and Honor. God knows that I wish I was raised bilingual. But it wasn’t to be,” said the actress, who plans on expanding her latest personal endeavor into professional waters.

“I want to make movies in Spanish… There are so many interesting themes and stories that are worth sharing, like the lives of immigrants, for example,” Alba said. “There’s a whole world that hasn’t been sufficiently explored and I want to be part of it – the violence on the Mexican borders, the political upheaval in Venezuela and Bolivia and the drug trafficking in Colombia.”

4.       Tyrese Co-Signs Being a Father to Your Child

Although he is going through a custody battle with his ex-wife Norma, Tyrese Gibson is quick to say that the drama does not spill over on to his 2 ½-year-old daughter, Shayla Somer.

No matter what, the singer/rapper/actor maintains that patriarchs should do the right thing and be a father to their children.“At the end of the day, this is what I would say to all fathers: Don’t allow the conflicts between [you and] the mother of your child … to get in the way of your responsibility as a father,” Tyrese shared with People.com’s Celebrity Baby Blog. “Your responsibility when you coexist and create a child is to be a father — period — because that child is affected by your irresponsibilities if you decide to be irresponsible,”Tyrese’s stance on fatherhood comes amid ups and downs in his divorce from Norma, which he filed in January 2009. Irreconcilable differences were cited in the split, which occurred after 10 months of marriage. Through all the divorce complications, Tyrese’s feelings for Norma continue to remain while proclaiming his love for Shayla.

“I still love the mother of my child and that will never change,” the entertainer shared.

5.       Mary J. Blige Rocks Out on a Stairway to Heaven

She may be the queen of hip-hop soul, but Mary J. Blige is leaning on the influence of rock music for one song on her latest album, Stronger With Each Tear.On Tuesday (Feb. 2), the songstress aligned with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, American Idol’s Randy Jackson, rock guitarist Steve Val and Orianthi (the blonde female guitarist selected for Michael Jackson’s This Is It tour) for a cover of Led Zeppelin’s classic, “Stairway to Heaven.”

The tune, which is among Zeppelin’s array of vintage material, is considered to be one of the greatest rock songs of all time. Blige’s interest in “Stairway to Heaven” goes all the way back to childhood as she remembered experiencing a variety of emotions while listening to it.”The one thing that I get out of the lyrics ‘she is buying a stairway to heaven’ is what so many of us have done and do, meaning we buy a bunch of material things to get peace,” the vocalist told The BoomBox. “I was a kid when I first heard it. It made me feel weird, but it made me feel peaceful, and then when the rock ‘n’ roll part came in, it made me feel charged, but at the same time that peace didn’t leave me. I was able to see into music, and fell into music, to the depths where other people can’t feel it or see it, so that made me want to do it.”  Blige’s version of “Stairway to Heaven” is set to appear as a bonus track on the international release of Stronger With Each Tear

6.       Jill Scott Relationship With Record Label Exposed in New LawsuitBelieve it or not, Jill Scott is being brought to task by her record label. The award-winning songbird is at the center of a new lawsuit that was filed on Wednesday (Feb. 3) by Hidden Beach Records. In the suit are claims that Scott has bailed on her six-album contract with the label, thereby resulting in her potentially owing Hidden Beach millions of dollars in damages. The suit goes on to acknowledge claims that Scott parted ways with the label after a more than 10 year relationship. Hidden Beach and its founder, Steve McKeever, allege they nurtured Scott into a successful singer/songwriter after helping launch her career. Scott was midway through fulfilling her contract with three albums under her belt.

The lawsuit also chronicled a rather tight relationship Hidden Beach and McKeever had with its popular star. Among the details uncovered were allegations that McKeever paid Scott million-dollar advances when he wasn’t required to as well as allowed her to keep merchandising revenue.

The complaint further claims that McKeever paid $450,000 to fund a concert DVD that Scott later asked not be released, bought her lavish gifts and indulged her desire to slow her recording schedule to pursue an acting career.

To hear the label tell it, it seemed like Hidden Beach was forced to sue Scott given her alleged diva like behavior. The claim they were “rolling the dice and betting everything it had on an unknown talent” when they first signed Scott … and are “deeply saddened” by her recent actions.

 In Other Words…

It’s no secret that Will Smith is a supporter of President Obama. But could the Commander-in-Chief’s influence be rubbing off on the entertainer?

Could be. In an interview with Germany’s Bunte magazine, Smith’s wife Jada  confessed that her husband is thinking about entering the true realm of aliens and weird, backward thinking creatures, i.e. the world of politics.

“Will is thinking about going into politics. He once said he could imagine becoming a U.S. president,” said Jada.  “He wasn’t joking, he was quite serious about it.”

If this holds up, it would be a turnaround for the Fresh Prince, who opted for the fun-filled life of a movie star rather than that of a politician.

Hip-Hop Rumors: G-Unit To Go Indie? Snitch Rapper? Fight At Mike Jones Show!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

MIKE JONES SHOW ENDS IN SHOOT OUT!

What up doe! I wish I was from Detroit and then I would actually sound right saying that. Nevertheless, WHAT UP DOE! Anyway, shout out to my Detroit connects. Mike Jones had a show there the other day and I heard he did his thing. The people came out and supported. The only issue is, the thugs came out and supported too. They supported so much they shot the place up before Mike  Jones could even finish his show. Damn.

SOMEBODY’S UPSET

I don’t know how to say this. But, I will tread lightly. Somebody had a song from somebody else that they had for a long time. Well, somebody decided that they were going to put the song out even though the first somebody didn’t want it to come out as such. Soooooooo…somebody is upset that somebody released the record which includes somebody else, who is very powerful and important. Hmmmmmmm…hopefully somebody doesn’t remain mad since I’m a fan.

LIL WAYNE TO FLOP?

Well, this is what they are saying. Some preliminary numbers are going around and they are saying that Lil Wayne is going to push about $150k of his Rebirth album. I know this rock CD leaked like crazy, but do you think this is an indication of waning popularity for Weezy or just a rock album nobody was so interested in? His last CD pushed a milli in a week…that’s a dramatic difference in sales. THOUGHTS?

G-UNIT TO GO INDIE?

I got a lil rumor from Mikey T The Movie Star. Dude hit me and told me that G-Unit may be merging into an indie label. I am definitely not sure what that all means, since they are kind of like an indie that just happens to go through Interscope Records. It’s all in the distribution. From what I am gathering is this allows 50 Cent to put out as many albums as he wants and not have to go through the mess.

A GANG ACCUSES A RAPPER OF SNITCHING?

I got this in the mail:

XXXXX A MATHAF**KIN SNITCH CUZZ. THIS N#### XXXXX SNITCHED ON THE WHOLE BRITTANY HILLS POSSE IN COLUMBUS OHIO AND HE GOT NI**AZ LOCKED UP TO GET OUT OF JAIL. HE WAS SUPPOSSED TO GET A YEAR BUT WHAT HAPPEND, THE N**A GOT OUT EARLY. NI**AS TALKIN BOUT TI, THIS NI**A THE REAL SNITCH. GOT MY NI**A POPPA JOE LOCKED UP FROM COLUMBUS. XXXXX A B***H CUZZ

I must admit, I don’t know what this is referring to, but I will say this. The rapper they are accusing of snitching is presently in jail. Also, Maurice Lamont Williams aka “Papa Joe” is not in jail at all. He’s on the lam. Papa Joe is the suspect ring leader of Operation Peach, which apparently goes from Columbus, Ohio-to-Atlanta, Ga. And this is where the rapper comes in. I can’t say the name of the rapper, but its not hard to figure out and he is one of the biggest right now. So, in the streets, they are saying that this rapper told on the gang and got 28 out of 31 members arrested.

IS THIS TREY SONGZ NEW GIRLFRIEND?

My hunch is no, but a couple people told me something else.

WILL OR WON’T BEYONCE TAKE THAT BREAK?

Remember how Beyonce said she is going to take that break? Now, they are saying Beyonce is looking to ride the Grammy wave for another six months. Chelsea Handler held nothing back on B.

(Take the break!)

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

Apparently, G-Dep is going to be issuing a statement to discuss some of the rumors. Stay tuned.

Apparently, Trey Songz’s former manager has wished his young friend well, even though he was left high-n-dry after many years.

Keshia Cole is very close to having that baby. She was rushed to the hospital!

Lil Wayne starts jail in NYC next week.

Lil Wayne has allegedly kicked the promethazine-codeine syrup habit so he doesn’t have the jitters in jail.

Anderson “Hero” Cooper is reportedly going to adopt a Haitian child.

Where the hell is that Sade/Nas record? LEAK IT!

Nas is supposed to be getting his Kelis tat removed from his arm. He and JD should get a two-for-one.

Ray-J’s babe Danger is reportedly cracking up. She’s been arrested or something for arson. Honestly, I can’t deal with her antics. She needs help.

Gabourey “Prescious” Sidibe wants to take Justin Timberlake to the Academy Awards. Precious Please.

Looks like Tiger Woods has officially won his wife back. His wiz-roid fired her divorce lawyer recently. I know the lawyer was pissssssssssed!

Per TMZ: Brittany Murphy’s cause of death has been determined: An accidental death caused by “community acquired pneumonia,” iron deficiency anemia, and multiple drug intoxication.

Matt Kemp is reportedly seeing other women in addition to Rihanna. He must not know.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

There is a lot of talk about the younger generation, but the “older” generation is definitely bugging too. I mean the 30-somethings. A 38-year-old mother in Georgia was not pleased with her son’s report card. This is very regular. Well, how she decided to discipline the 12-year-old is the stuff legend is made of. The mother forced her son to murder his pet hamster WITH A HAMMER. Hello? What the hell? I mean, seriously…what is on this woman’s mind? She wanted to send him a message, but what was she trying to convey?  The boy snitched on his mom to the Division of Family and Child Services and then they brought in the police. This nutjob (Lynn Middlebrooks) was charged with one charge each of animal cruelty, child cruelty and battery.  She needs to submit herself to a shrink and make sure nothing else is loose up there in her head.  Shout out to Lil Dru for that tip!

LIL HAMSTER, WE LOVE YOU!!!

They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!

Hip-Hop Rumors: Olivia Says 50 Cent Shoulda Spent $4 Mil On Her!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

OLIVIA SAYS 50 CENT SHOULD HAVE SPENT $4 MILLION ON HER!

Olivia where she goes in on DJ Whoo kid, clears up rumors of her sleeping with Young Buck and says 50 Cent should have spent $4 mil on her.

Hahahaha! She had better be joking! But in all seriousness, here is what she said and the video is after that.

“I mean, I’m worth it, You [50 Cent] should have spent four [million]. I’m just saying, if you have an R&B artist and you’re used to dealing with a whole bunch of rappers who all you have to do is get up and put on a sweat suit, like, come on. That’s not fair. I’m a girl, like you said, I’m beautiful, I don’t wanna OD and be extra cocky, but come on.”

“There’s a lot of stuff that comes with having an R&B artist, so, what’s the problem? He can afford it. I’m your artist, you love me, you gonna take care of me, you gonna take care of all your other artists so why is it a big deal for me? I don’t know what he spent, but the point is you’re supposed to be taking care of your artists. Why would you even want to throw out a number or whatever you’re doing. It’s not that serious.”

Here is what 50 Cent said before to get her to say such a thing.

Stroke Of Genius: The Return of Hexmurda

Whutupdoe…I’m back on some Lazarus s**t. Straight up. U n****s miss me? With every bullet so far, huh?

Yeah whuteva.

F**k you,too.

For those of you who give a flying f**k, I have returned, at least until Raze or Jigsaw tell me to roll the f**k out.

I’ve had a change of heart like Chuck Taylor. For this drop I’m gonna leave all of the dissing of these clowns without make-up that we call rappers to my compatriots.

This s**t is serious.

As cancer.

Or high blood pressure.

Or stroke.

Pontine stroke to be exact. The stroke of all strokes. At 36. Yup. I stroked the f**k out. Almost got my die on.

I aint gonna get into how I survived, but I survived. I walk with the G-O-D, n***as. Yeah I couldn’t walk, talk, eat, or breakdance. F**k it, s**t happens. I wasn’t gonna finish this piece – too personal, too painful.

But s**t kept happening that urged me on.

A suprise tweet from one of my nurses, well-wishes from everyone from Everlast to BMF affiliates. Motherf**king benefit concert was one jam with n##### from New York, Philly, and California.

Cats were showing love, and I wasn’t even dead (anymore) n***as were making huge secret contributions that will stay secret.

Hey, I was in one of the best hospitals in the United States, that s**t COSTS money. Man, a lot of n***as revealed their true selves to me during this ordeal and some showed me the true meaning of the word “FRIEND,” word to Whodini.

I learned a lot my damn self. Shout out to all the writers who damn near eulogized me and shout out to all the readers who kept me in their prayers. Thank you, that s**t worked.

For my part, I’ll say this; I’m deading all previous beefs, unless a n#### wants to keep it going. I’m definitely into that too. And for the reason I wrote this depressing little ditty – dont be a dumb-ass like me.

If your doctor gives you some little red hypertension pills that give you headaches, take that s**t. Or you can take the 17 pills I take, and hope you wake up in the morning.

Take care of yourself, because I don’t want you to end up in a wheelchair with an eye patch like me. Trust me, it’s not as cool as it sounds.

Yo,I envy you.

I envy all you good walkin’, good seein’, good talkin’ muthaf**kers.

Hypertension. The silent killer.

Yo, talkin’ s**t about the f**king Grammys can wait a minute, but your health can’t. If I can convince just one of you obnoxious f**ks to get checked out, I’ll feel that all of this f**king pain is worth it. Don’t have me endure it in vain.

Twit @ me, @hexmurda – unfiltered.
