Wyclef Clears Dead Bodies In Haiti, Raises A Million

(AllHipHop News) Activist/Hip-Hip artist Wyclef has committed to helping his brethren in Haiti, even clearing bodies of the nation’s desolate streets.

The rapper said that the scene in Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital, an “apocalypse” and that more are soon to die without sufficient aid.

“The count is not 100,000 there’s at least, has to be four to five hundred thousand people that is about to die,” he told the Associated Press.

On Thursday, the rapper spent the entire day moving bodies and said that chaos is near, unless there is emergency and governmental intervention.

Though his Yele Haiti charity, he has helped to raise $1 million from supporters texting monetary support in $5 increments. But, Wyclef said that he wants to do more.

“We have to raise a million dollars a day. In four or five days, this whole country is going to be in chaos. We are calling for a state of emergency,” he said.

He desperately requested that President Barack Obama and other global powers impose a state of emergency and increase aid to those in need of basic water and food.

The Last Word: Kelis Ethers PETA, Gary Coleman’s Peen Probs, Jill Scott Returns!

What’s the word, smart people? I can’t even say it’s been an uninteresting five days. A lot has happened since I last checked in. From hundreds of thousands of people dead or wounded amid that devastating earthquake in Haiti to Mark McGwire finally admitting to using steroids to Simon Cowell leaving American Idol after this season, this week has given us a lot to talk about. Add to that NBC screwing Conan O’Brien out of his shot of making his Tonight Show a success as well as Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst dropping out of the fourth Spider-Man movie amid drama over the movie’s script and there was no shortage of people moving on to bigger and better things. For better or worse. (Note to Sony and NBC: You know you both done f****d up, right?)

Thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends of those who have lost loved ones in Haiti or are trying to get in touch with those who are over there. Prayers and thoughts also go out to friends and family of legendary R&B pioneer Teddy Pendergrass, who died on Wednesday (Jan. 13) from colon cancer at the age of 59.

Shout out to everybody who has made or will make donations or contributed whatever they are able to (financial or otherwise) to help those living in Haiti, and the sounding boards, who always find a way to stay connected to old friends.

Once again, it’s time for…the Last Word for the week ending January 15, 2010.

1.       Kelis Voices Love of Meat and Fur to PETA

Kelis may have split from Nas and signed to a new record label in 2009, but the singer is continuing to make waves as she kicks off the New Year with a written shot fired at PETA.

In a post on her MySpace blog, Kelis blasts the animal rights organization, which wrote a “personalized letter” criticizing her choice of clothing after seeing a photograph that turned up earlier this week of her wearing a noticeable amount of fur to an event.

As a result, Kelis proudly boasted her love of meat (“I eat meat, and in fact my mouth salivates as I type the word meat!”) while labeling PETA President Ingrid Newkirk as “completely batty” after “doing a very minimal amount of research.”

“I had a feeling but she far exceeded my expectations,” Kelis wrote. “I mean certifiably insane! Lol this chicks will is nuts, google it – it’s a riot!

Although she said she believes in the preservation of endangered species, the singer admitted that chinchilla and mink are the exception as she highlighted the upside to sporting fur.

“…it’s not just the look of fur. It’s warm as hell and feels glorious, ever rubbed faux fur on your body? Nothing luxurious about that,” said Kelis. “Quite honestly [chinchilla and mink] are rodents, and if it weren’t in the form of a coat, I would demand they be put to death anyway.”

As she wrapped up her letter, Kelis suggested that PETA focus its energy on more worthwhile causes such as “women being maimed in these Middle Eastern countries. Or female circumcision. Or women’s rights here in America, we still get paid less for doing the same jobs as men.”

“If u want to preach do it about something worthwhile don’t waste my time trying to save the dang chipmunk,” she said.

2.       Jill Scott Plots Musical Return and Movie and TV Takeover for 2010

Jill Scott’s 2010 looks to be a busy one. The songstress is set to appear in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too, which hits theaters on April 2 as well as the Lifetime movie, Sins of the Mother. The film, which will air Feb. 7 on the channel, finds Scott playing an abusive, alcoholic mother who reunites with her daughter after sobering up.

Lifetime isn’t the only network to showcase Miss Jill. The singer/actress will grace BET with voice work for the upcoming Marvel Animation mini-series, The Black Panther. Scott, who will provide the voice for X-Men superheroine Storm, stars alongside Kerry Washington, Alfre Woodard and Djimon Hounsou on the show. Look for The Black Panther to arrive in mid 2010 on BET.

Musically, fans will be happy to know that Scott hasn’t forgotten what brought her to the table. The vocalist, who garnered an NAACP Image Award nomination for outstanding actress in a drama series for her starring role in HBO’s The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, is gearing up to release her fifth studio album ‘Light of the Sun,’ in the spring or summer. To coincide with the album’s release, Scott will usher in the return of Lilith Fair, by joining the tour’s founder, Sarah McLachlan, Mary J. Blige, Sheryl Crow and Erykah Badu for the outing.

3.       Gary Coleman Upset Over Full-Frontal Exposure in New Film

A full month hasn’t even passed and Gary Coleman has managed to start 2010 with a now public “private” situation.

Just last week, the former Diff’rent Strokes star was hospitalized after suffering a seizure during a phone interview. Now, he wants fans to boycott his latest movie, Midgets vs. Mascots, amid claims that the film’s producers used an “ugly” body double in a full-frontal nude scene he did.

E! Online reports that Coleman is threatening to sue to prevent further DVD sales of Midgets vs. Mascots. The actor is said to be furious that the scene appears to show him au natural. Coleman claims he never agreed to have his private parts shown in the final cut of the feature. And oh yeah, Gary also made it known that that the guy who stood in for him wasn’t up for the job

“I wanted all my fans to protest my penis being in the movie, because I didn’t want that. It’s a body double, I believe, because I certainly was not gonna do this,” the entertainer said. “And I heard that the body double is ugly, and is unattractive, and does not make me look good.”

Oookaaay. Here’s proof that there really are different strokes for different folks.  On to the next item.

4.       Shirley Murdock Returns to R&B with “Something to Say”

After a long hiatus, Shirley Murdock is making a return to R&B. The folks at BV Buzz state that Murdock is gearing up to record her first R&B CD in almost 20 years.

Prior to this, the songstress became a fixture on the gospel music scene with her last gospel CD being 2007’s SoulFood. The last R&B CD Murdock released was Let There Be Love! in 1991.

While folks may think she’s doing a “flip-flop” between gospel and R&B, Murdock is quick to say that isn’t the case.

“I’ve got something to say again,” said the singer, who is best known for her hit “As We Lay.” “It’s still going to have substance and be faith-filled. So I’m not changing who I am, but its just time to encourage a different audience.”

Murdock’s return to R&B has been steadily building after a positive reception from R&B fans to her single ‘I Love Me Better Than That on Urban Adult Contemporary radio formats. In addition, Murdock collaborated with Teen Marie on “Soldier,” a track off Marie’s CD Congo Square.

5.       Heroes Star Tracks Down Parents in Haiti

Life is a little better now for Jimmy Jean-Louis, now that he’s heard from his parents in Haiti.

The actor, who is best known for playing “The Haitian” on the NBC show Heroes, had been searching for his parents ever since a powerful earthquake struck Haiti. His worries were amplified after he received word that several of his relatives were killed after the house he grew up in collapsed during the disaster.

Jean-Louis’ mind was put at ease on Thursday (Jan. 14) when he talked to his mom on the phone.

“I got a phone call from my sister who said she was able to reach home,” the Haitian native told CNN. “So I picked up the phone and my mom answered. The first reaction from both of us was simply to cry.”

Jean-Louis,  who returned from Haiti a couple of weeks ago after spending the holidays with his folks, is already set to come back to Haiti to provide relief aid to his fellow Haitians. The actor returned While his parents are safe, the actor still wonders about the relatives and friends he hasn’t heard from who are in Haiti. With the current state of his homeland, Jean-Louis has changed the focus of his nonprofit organization Hollywood Unites for Haiti, to help mobilize and offer as much aid as possible for earthquake victims.

“I am very, very happy that there is unity,” said the entertainer, who is grateful for all the support Haiti has received from everyone near and far. “Only through unity will we be able to overcome the catastrophe.”

In Other Words…

Previously unreleased songs by Jimi Hendrix are coming to stores, courtesy of a new album of material. USA Today reports the album, will include the legendary guitarist’s earliest sessions with bassist Billy Cos, his Experience trio’s final studio recordings and the long shelved song Mr. Bad Luck. In addition, fans can enjoy a frenzied rendition of Fire, a cover of Cream’s Sunshine of Your Love and retooled original tunes such as Lover Man, Red House and Crying Blue Rain.

The new Jimi Hendrix album is slated to hit stores March 9.

The success of Avatar has opened a sweet smelling door for Zoe Saldana. People reports the actress has been named the newest face of the new Avon fragrance, Eternal Magic. In addition to Eternal Magic, Saldana will be featured in Avon’s brochure as a face of the company’s color cosmetics collection.

“It means so much to me to be associated with a company that shares my values and believes in empowering women,” the actress said about the fragrance, which “takes inspiration from the rare Princess Monaco Rose,” according to an Avon release. Look for Eternal Magic to debut in April.

A little more than year since Kelly Rowland said goodbye to Matthew Knowles as her manager, Michelle Williams is following in her Destiny Child partner’s footsteps. Media sources report that Williams has parted ways Knowles and Music World Entertainment Entertainment in an effort to explore “a new direction” as it pertained to her career.

“I have decided to part ways from my management team, Mathew Knowles and Music World Entertainment,” the songbird said via a statement. “From my time in Destiny’s Child to my solo career, I am grateful for everything Mathew and his team has done for me. We’ve shared great success together. However, as I move in a new direction in my career, I felt it was time. I wish Mathew Knowles and the Music World Entertainment family all the best,”

Williams’ split with Knowles comes as she makes her theatrical return as Roxie Hart in the play Chicago. Williams will start her stint in the Broadway musical on Feb. 8.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kelis Sex Tape MC? Maia Campbell Gets A Show? Another Trey Songz Rumor!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

FREE MYSTIKAL!!!!!!

Oh…he is free. Read about it here.

JOE BUDDEN WASN’T ATTACKED

That’s it. He wasn’t attacked as rumored yesterday.

On to the next one…

KELIS SEX TAPE STILL OUT THERE?

I thought the Kelis sex tape was proven to be wrong, but it would seem like that rumor is resurrected now that the new year is here.

You can say I have some ties with [a NY record label] and I heard they are working on a deal with a rapper named Infared who use to be a Ruff Ryder with DMX and his crew. From what I heard he use to ghost write for Swizz Beats and wrote the hook for Jadakiss and Lil Wayne “Pop Bottles.” This is the same guy that made the sex tape with Kelis, that caused all of the turmoil between her and Nas. But a deal has not been confirmed yet, but they are talking about.

There has been no word on this, but “they” say Nas and Kelis really broke up over this alleged sex tape. I want to know when we are gonna stop using the term “tape” as if people still use VCRs.

TREY SONGZ – NOT SO BI

My homey Cole hit me up on the Trey Songz being “bi” rumor and sort of set the record straight. I never like to leave a rumor hanging if it may not be true.

Just saw your Trey Songz bisexual rumor and can tell you for a fact that it is patently untrue (at least the Brandon Hines part although Trey being gay sounds ridiculous as well). Brandon Hines is actually a songwriter and artist who is signed to my label, and I know for a fact he is straight (dude hooks up with the finest super model broads you could imagine and was actually with the famous model Chanel Iman for a little while). Trey was one of the first industry artists he got to work with and is a good friend/collaborator. They co-write and collab together upon occasion, and they roll with the same people (if you see videos online, Brandon has also recently been down in Atlanta working with Jermaine Dupri and Brian Michael Cox). Funny stuff though, we’re all having a good laugh about it but figured it should be corrected on the site. Thanks man.

MAIA CAMPBELL TO GET REALITY SHOW?

Looks like the networks are about to exploit another person, according to missjia.com. Maia Campbell is reportedly in the process of doing a reality show to chronicle her comeback.

Former child star turned vixen turned You Tube trainwreck, Maia Campbell has teamed up with Reality TV producer Jaysen “Av Action” Accius to start filming the pilot for a reality series that follows her journey as she attempts to pick up the pieces of a once beautiful life while dealing with her addictions and Bi Polar disorder. Maia and the producers of the show are hoping that this show will aid in giving a voice to the thousands of people diagnosed with Bi Polar Disorder every year and the families, friends and communities that struggle to support them.

Before she gets a show, lets get her health back.

Mystikal Released From Prison, Wants “Reparations”

(AllHipHop News)New Orleans rapper Mystikal has officially been released from prison and seeks to reestablish his career as a Hip-Hop artist.

“I’m back. It almost feels like a dream,” he said in an interview with New Orleans’ radio station Q93 FM. “Six years off the scene for most rappers, it would be over with, but it’s a new beginning for me.”

“Now that he has been released from prison, Mystikal is looking forward to getting back in the game,” a source close to the rapper told AllHipHop.com “He’s laying low for now, but he’s definitely happy to be out and looking forward to working with everyone.”

The rapper, born Michael Lawrence Tyler, was released from prison late yesterday evening (January 14) after serving a six-year sentence for sexual assault and battery.

Mystikal had always maintained his innocence and said that his spirituality helped him maintain.

“It had to be God [that got me through jail]. Going through it, it was tough. I had to get outta my way and let God handle that,” he stated. “He had his arms wrapped around me tight.”

Mystikal also commented on the slew of rappers that are going to jail or recently returning home from jail. He said that rappers aren’t necessarily targeted wrongly, even though he feels falsely imprisoned.

“We gotta pay more attention to what we’re doing our self. That’s an easy excuse,” he said on air. “We gotta take responsibility for what we do. We cant be foolish especially when you are blessed and successful. We gotta tighten up”

Mystikal’s lengthy prison sentence stemmed from an incident in which he forced his hairstylist to perform sexual acts on him and his bodyguard.

He initially denied the charges, but accepted a plea in 2003, when a videotape of the incident was presented during his trial.

Because he taped the sexual assault, both men were charged with extortion.

Prior to his stint in prison, Mystikal was a chart topping rapper who have collaborated with artists like The Neptunes, Scott Storch, Juvenile, Outkast, Da Brat.

He didn’t indicate particulars on what he would be doing with his musical career, but said he had been writing significantly during his stay in jail.

Mystikal also plans to mentor kids to help them avoid the pitfalls that he was unable to avoid.

“I’m gonna let these knuckle head kids know…that dog that’s barking at them…he bit me,” he said. “I’m gonna be doing a lot of positive stuff.”

He said it hurt to be in jail for the death of his sister and Soulja Slim, as well as not being able to help his hometown during the Hurricane Katrina tragedy.

Sounding excited, he further indicated that he had been wronged, but moreover that he was prepared to reenter the music game a star.

“Wait ‘til I shake the world up now. I want reparations.”

As a solo artist he recorded many classics records and was dubbed “Teddy Bear” for his velvety smooth voice. Eight months ago, he underwent surgery for colon cancer and was said have had a difficult recovery, according to his son Teddy Jr. He leaves behind a musical legacy that will fondly be remembered.

VIBE and AllHipHop.com reminisce on some of the soul crooner’s most classic cuts.

Wale: The Solution For Hip-Hop’s ADHD

This guy may just really be the next best thing coming out of D.C. since E.U. with “Da Butt.”

Wale tirelessly puts it on for his city and for those that need convincing probably also need industrial Q-tips for their ears. Obubowale “Wale” Florain first rose to prominence in 2006 with his heavy demand through Myspace and the insider music industry. Mixing the elements of Go-Go’s percussion and clever- yet rather entertaining metaphoric wordplay, Wale brought a cool breeze of fresh air to the Hip-Hop game.

After numerous fresh mixtapes, Wale had the pleasure of being one of the few ’08 Freshmen Class students to actually release an album. Attention Deficit became a highly underrated album that likely was a victim of the retail dilemma facing the music industry.

AllHipHop.com had the chance to talk to Wale on a tour stop in North Carolina and he

AllHipHop.com: For people who fail to know, tell us who Wale is?

Wale: The most vague… AllHipHop did a “First 48” with me, I think they know who I am. I’m a very emotional musician. I think the most emotional musicians are the most controversial for better or for worst- like ‘Pac, Pac was very emotional. The Beetles- very emotional. Michael Jackson- very emotional. James Brown- very emotional. Public Enemy- very emotional. Outkast- very emotional. I think there’s a certain negative connotation behind the word “emotional” now. I try to make my music interesting and keep everybody happy, but at the same time, I have a lot to say. I’m very passionate about what I do.

AllHipHop.com: I can agree with you when say you have a lot to say. Matter of fact, when it comes to your debut album Attention Deficit, a lot of people were complaining about it being under-shipped…

Wale: You know the funny thing is- I forgot what website it was, but the person wrote quote-unquote. The person who wrote it knew what it was. I didn’t say I was going to 100,000, but I probably could have done 60,000.

AllHipHop.com: Exactly! Now that you mentioned that, do you blame the under shipment for your album sales?

Wale: It’s one of the things I want to look back on. Everybody knows next time I can do 60,000 without a single. Because I did a single that was like whatever… some people liked it, some people didn’t. The single peaked 99 on the top 100, but I still dropped an album seven months later. That’s one of the most biggest accolades of my career. The fact that Interscope let me drop a album- that’s reckless! A lot of people need a top 20 record. Interscope is still pushing me. I have three more videos to go. I’m one video in. One single in. We haven’t done “Pretty Girls,” we haven’t done “90210”… I’m doing a video for everything.

AllHipHop.com: With the whole issue that went on with the album, did you expect such a huge demand from fans- especially through twitter?

Wale: It was killing me inside, it was killing me inside. We literally considered driving to places with a truck full of CDs. I’m not in it for the money. I don’t care about the money, like not even a little bit. I can get my money any kind of way. I want people to be able to hear the music and be one of the people that they can connect with. You don’t even have to call me the greatest. I just want you to be like “You know what, Wale might be a little hard to understand” or “He might be emotional about his music, but his music really touches me.” That’s all I want. F*ck that money young. That’s why most of the time I do features for these artist and I don’t charge. You’ll be surprised how many n***as are like “I can work with you right now.” Like word? I have a list. It can be long, short, it can be medium. I’m not going to express that but I have a list. If my fans believe in me, then they know what’s going to happen second time around. Big single or not, they know, because my label is going to push out them albums. They know what’s going to happen second time around. And when it goes down, I’m gon’ be on that “Oh word?” I extended myself to everybody. There’s people that I respect in this business- I’m not gon’ throw them under the bus, I respect them, but it is what it is. Timbaland- meet him at Hit Factory, Cool & Dre- Cool & Dre went in… “I got em’ I’m gon’ work with you.” Nothing. Kanye [West], this is a guy who I looked up to when I first came in. I respect him but that heroic “he’s representing for people that’s on that rise” is gone. My thing is I don’t have hatred nor jealously on my heart. My Nigerian parent’s are very religious, they don’t believe in anything like that. But it is what it is. I mentioned to my mom that I feel like I’m in a battle by myself. That’s cool because I’m the only one that has a sense of entitlement.

AllHipHop.com: One thing I like about the album is the versatility. When it comes to tracks like “90210,”Shades,” or even “Mama Told Me,” where does the inspiration for these subject manners come from?

Wale: “90210” is literally about people I seen. It could be a Paris Hilton, it could be double L [Lindsay Lohan]. I observe. I’m a n***a from D.C. and all I know is like U Street, Gaithersburg, Saratoga, and Largo. I know those areas in the DMV. Honestly, I didn’t know Beverly Hills until I went there. And to be honest, a couple of my “90210” experiences took place in London. The blow and the nose bleeds, a lot of that took place in London. It’s kind of sad because it’s kind of my version of “All Falls Down.” I’m from an urban environment. I’ve seen the girl who goes to school, comes back, and gets pregnant. But I think you have to leave home, with a bag full of paper and a pen, come back home, and tell your community what’s going on. That’s what “90210” is. I’m essentially talking to the people like “Yo, I went to this place. It’s suppose to be so beautiful, so perfect, and I saw more flaws than our necessitous environments.” That’s why the last line says next time you go say that crazy sh*t about n*ggas, analyze what you do. A lot of these Hollywood women talks down on n*ggas on crack or n*ggas who flip cocaine to feed their families and pay bills, but ya’ll out there sucking… doing blow and whatever to get on. Who’s wrong in that? Is it the person who’s sucking every d*ck to get on? Or the person who’s selling some p*ssy here and there, or selling some weed to feed their kid? You want it for the fame so people can acknowledge your existence, I want it to feed my child. That’s what “90210” is all about.

AllHipHop.com: I’m sure people are curious to know how did you hook up with Gucci Mane for “Pretty Girls?”

Wale: Gucci Mane was amazing. You have to understand you’re talking about a guy who can connect with the whole urban environment… from jail. Do you understand the significance in that? When Hip-Hop first started, it was about the DJ and the party. Some way, people connect lyricism with Hip-Hop- that’s only one element. Connecting with the people is more important. That’s why you have to take your hat off to the “Soulja Boys” and the “Gucci Manes.” They may not be the most lyrical like myself, Black Thought, Jay-Z, or Immortal Technique, Andre 3000, Wordsworth, Lupe Fiasco- amazing lyricist. But you have to respect what Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy do too- that’s Hip-Hop! They want you to dance. You come to the party and you had two or three shots of Patron, all that intense stuff from throughout the day, let it go. You just want to enjoy what the f**k Hip-Hop is, and Hip-Hop is making you dance and want to have fun.

That girl you booked tonight in the club or that dude you meet in the club, you met him because of that Gucci Mane record or because of that Soulja Boy record. You met that other because of that sh*t. Not because some “just to get by.” We love Talib, we love that song, but you did not meet that other because of that. “Get By” is what you hear in the morning getting ready for work or when your in your dorm room smoking that jay with your friends. “Get By” is what you hear when you’re riding in your car talking about how great Hip-Hop is. But “Wasted” and “Photoshoot” is what you listen to in the club when you’re trying to have fun. With me being raised in the go-go, I went to Backyard [Band] shows when I was 16,17 years old. They would bring Scarface up, they would bring Juvenile up, they’ll bring UGK up, they’ll bring Master P up. I’m showing love for the south. I have so much love for the south because they show us love. They show me love. I can do sell-out show at a club before I even had a record deal. You know I just think he kind of personifies and sets the tone for what I’m saying on the record. It is what it is. It’s about having fun, partying. I listen to Gucci Mane. I’m a fan of his music. I think he did a good job. He really executed what he wanted to execute on this record.

AllHipHop.com: Since you’re like the biggest artist to come out of D.C., do you feel like you have certain responsibility for the whole DMV area?

Wale: I don’t really have no pressure or anything like that. This is my job, I just go to work and I just do what I have to do. I try not to get wrapped up in all that.

AllHipHop.com: How would you describe your sense of fashion? What are some of the latest threads you like to wear?

Wale: I’m not much of a label w#### compared to other rappers. I just like what I like, whatever is comfortable. Obviously I like the upscale and the street-wear, but you know I just throw on a white-tee and be comfortable. Or a nice little jacket or whatever.

AllHipHop.com: UCB has been performing back-up for you for some time now, how did the whole collaboration begin? How does it feel to be touring with one if D.C.’s classic go-go bands?

Wale: I grew up listening to them. Once I was able to fund the band to tour, it was kind of a no brainer. That’s the band that I used to go listen to the most. I’m personal friends with a couple people in the band anyways, so we had it hooked up like that.

AllHipHop.com: The DMV is currently under the radar as the next the area to takeover. Are there any of your fellow artist that you’re currently looking out for?

Wale: I mean there’s a lot. Every time I answer that question, somebody approach me in the club like “why didn’t you mention me.” That’s how competitive it is. But Black Cobain Fat Trell, Southeast Slim, Phil Ade… there’s a lot of people. It’s very competitive.

AllHipHop.com: I’m aware you’re Nigerian, but I was still surprised to hear African sampled in your music. So far I heard Fela Kuti and Bunny Mack within your work. What do you know about these artist?

Wale: I grew up in a Nigerian household, which is like second nature to me. Just like I grew up on Back Yard [Band], I grew up on Fela. It’s just another part. Just like I can use go-go to rap on, I can use Africa beats to rap on as well.

AllHipHop.com: How would you say 2009 has been for you overall?

Wale: It’s been a good year. A bit of a roller-coaster ride, but it has made me stronger. I’m like at the very peak beginning of my career so it’s definitely going to be a year I always remember.

AllHipHop.com: What were your new years resolutions?

Wale: Just working on saying “No” more. I really say “Yes” too much.

AllHipHop.com: Since you’ve graduated out of your “Freshman Class,” who would you nominate as the next upcoming Freshmens?

Wale: J. Cole, Fashawn… there’s a lot of people, but those are the two people that kind of still have that fresh face and people are still unfamiliar with. I’m just drawing a blank right now.

AllHipHop.com: Is there anybody that you plan to work with for the 2010 year?

Wale: Nah man, I just like to work with the people who respond. It’s a natural thing. I don’t write a wish list of who I want to work with. I rather have it organically where it’s whatever the music tells me. If I think a certain person will sound good on something, then you know. That’s how I decide who I want to work with.

AllHipHop.com: So what’s next for Wale?

Wale: This is going to be the year where I’m more focused on business just as much as music. I’m going to go back and do another album. I’m going to work this album because we haven’t even scratched the surface of Attention Deficit. I think my fans deserve to hear more records that are commercially released. So we’re going to do it like that. I’m going to dive into some other aspects of the entertainment world that I can’t speak on right now, but I’m definitely going to dive into some other things.

AllHipHop.com: Do you have any last words for Hip Hop?

Wale: Just keep it alive and keep it competitive and keep it fun. Let’s keep some soul in it, let’s not take the whole soul out of it.

Booking Agent Chris Hines Reveals Beatdown Details

Still nursing various bruises and swelling to his face a week later, Toronto booking agent Chris Hines is revealing his side on his alleged beating at the hands of Lloyd Banks’ entourage.

Hines told the Toronto Star that the beating last week in Brantford was the first time he ever had a physical confrontation with an artist, and is dumbfounded on how it escalated to that point.

“I’m shocked; I don’t understand it. I’ve never heard of anything like this happening,” Hines stated. “You can curse people, maybe you don’t talk to them again, but for it to get physical; nobody was drinking and nobody was doing drugs. I think what really got this to escalate was peer pressure.”

Banks was booked by Hines to perform at Club NV. The Queens rapper was 90 minutes late for his 1am slot, and reportedly threw the mic down after a half-song due to disappointment with the crowd size and response.

Back at his hotel room, Hines claims Banks and three men from his entourage began battering him.

“After the first punch, it was like, `okay, he’s upset, disrespecting me a little bit, but cool, I’m not going to be stupid,” Hines explained. “I sat on my hands to show them like `hey, I’m not trying to do anything crazy.’ I knew if I fought back there was going to be no winning. When they hit me again, I fell on the floor. Then it really started to hit me, `What the f**k is going on?'”

After leaving him with twoblack eyes and other assorted facial injuries, Hines accused Banks’ group of robbing him of his jewelry and wallet.

Lloyd Banks, real name Christopher Lloyd, and 3 entourage members Nicklas Sloane (bodyguard), Shawn McGee (road manager/DJ), and Tyrell Cooper (hypeman) have pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault, forcible confinement, and robbery.

Banks posted a $50,000 bail and returned to the United States yesterday (January 13).

While the rapper has yet to release a statement, his attorney Patrick Ducharme hinted that the full situation will be disclosed once the parties begin trial, which is estimated to be a year.

“There’s a whole rich story that surrounds the circumstances here that has not surfaced and won’t surface until we get to court,” he concluded.

At press time, Lloyd Banks has yet to release an official statement on the case. His latest project, The Mixtape V.5 (80s Baby), dropped last month.

Getting Involved: Help Haiti

Our deepest condolences and most heartfelt prayers go to the people of Haiti, both there and abroad. With the rest of the world, we remain terribly saddened by Tuesday’s catastrophic earthquake.

We are as deeply moved as you to learn that some experts have marked this earthquake as the worst the world has ever seen (in terms of human lives lost and devastating impact). In less than 48 hours, estimates from Haitian officials project that hundreds of thousands of people may have died. We remain prayerful as we embrace the fact that the relief, repair, and recovery of this country are going to take years.

For the past 48 hours, we have been in around the clock communication and meetings with some of the country’s most resourceful and dedicated leaders and influencers of all races and backgrounds, from congress, to celebrities, to civic organizations, and others. We have both been inundated with hundreds of inquiries from people looking for ways to help. Even as we navigate this whirlwind of information and emotion, we firmly believe that we must support Haiti in a way that powerfully respects this great island nation.

We have prepared this HELP HAITI document as a basic, but informative resource tool for how to offer your support TODAY. This list is not complete, we know, but it’s a start for those who have asked us “How can I help?” or “Who is going to make sure that my donation gets directly to the people?”

Our communication with these leaders has included Haitian and Haitian-American activists. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support that the world has shown. With great passion and clarity of thought, however, they also remind Americans to please direct their cash donations and supplies to ground-level organizations that are respected as capacity-building organizations that are in touch with the people of Haiti.

They remind us that the most recognizable disaster relief organizations that people tend to turn to in times like these are the ones who have a little known history of profiting off the pain of the people of Haiti. In sobering tones, they told us that Haitians, sadly, have come to expect to be exploited in times like this.

The level of corruption is real and scandalous, but it doesn’t exist in every organization. There are truly caring people and organizations who have been working on the ground and who will remain there helping the people long after the cameras have left and long after the world starts to suffer from “Haiti fatigue.” Our Haitian friends remind us to not be caught up in the aid industry (where non-profit relief corporations often block, withhold, or sell your donated supplies to the people). Instead, they remind us to give support to capacity-building organizations who are genuinely interested in helping Haiti to be self-reliant, self-determining, and independent.

You can help make a meaningful difference by utilizing the information in this document. There are always three stages in dealing with natural and human-made tragedies: RESCUE, then RELIEF, and finally REBUILD. We are asking all concerned human beings to participate and volunteer as much time and energy as possible to all three stages to HELP HAITI.

In unity, Kevin Powell and April R. Silver

allhiphop.com i have not been attacked.. except 4 last night.. &

this morning… she was thick… & i enjoyed it, lolCHANCE ENCOUNTERSHere are some rumors that have been collected and heard from Chance and after that there are some rumors from Jazzy F. Enjoy!JAY DOESN’T WORSHIP LUCIFERThere’s been a lot of talk about Jay-Z being a part of some devil worshiping faction hell bent on world domination via hip-hop music.  It’s obvious he’s been playing into the hype a bit but he’s finally addressed the allegations.  Jay says:”If people must know my religious beliefs, I believe in one God. I

don’t believe in religion. I don’t believe in Christians or Muslims. I

think all that separates people. I think it’s one God. I think it’s all

the same God, and I don’t believe in Hell.  Am I a part of some sect or cult? That sounds stupid

to me. It’s like ignorant to even say … I can’t even get in a golf club in Palm Springs. I’m from Marcy Projects. Just think about that? People that control the world?”

He went on to say he doesn’t believe there is one organization that runs the world more like different cliques with large amounts of influence (i.e. Obama’s circle).P.S. The director of the On To The Next One video says the general public is “visually illiterate” and got the message behind the video twisted.  He says:“the idea is actually about a funeral for old imagery and ideas,

hence all the gothic and oppressive stuff. I was also trying to

contradict the excess of hip-hop videos by making something brutally

simple and claustrophobic.”Well there you have it.P.S. Jay also took a second to address Birdmans accusations of Wayne being better and having more money than him:

NO PARTY LIKE A LUDACRIS PARTY

Ludacris bought the freaks of the A out when he auditioned ladies for his “How Low Can You Go” video.  This isn’t a strip club just your average neighborhood redbone getting it in for a shot.  Even Shawty Lo came through to enjoy the festivities:

WHY BISHOP LAMONT GOT DROPPED?

Bishop Lamont was supposed to be the West Coasts new golden boy and under the Aftermath umbrella it looked like it was going to happen.  Then seemingly out of nowhere Bishop was dropped by the good doc.  Well my homey Lawrence Sandoval hit me with a statement from an Aftermath rep claiming the reason he was given the boot was his allegedly disloyalty.  The rep says Bishop went against Dre’s wishes by leaking his “Grow Up” single, started a fake beef with The Game to get in good with G-Unit then played nice at an award show and even went on Shade45 and went off on how he wasn’t feeling “Crack A Bottle” even though he was on Eminems station.  Apparently his shenanigans were just too much and Dre had to cut him loose. I’m sure we’ll hear from Bishop soon to clear this up.

REBIRTH…is starting to get a little Detoxish.  A couple of days ago Birdman posted a message on his Facebook saying Lil Wayne’s Rebirth will drop February 2, 2010.  If that’s the case Wayne won’t be around to promote it since he’s less than a month away from starting his 8 month bid (2/09) but maybe he’ll use it to stay hot while he’s coolin his heels in the pokey.

DIVERSIFY YO BONDSThe Game has taken some time off from recording his next album R.E.D. to promote fiscal responsibility.  Game says he will have breakfast with the first 1000 people to get their taxes done by Anthony Gray.  Check the video for details:

NEW COUPLE??Omarion had his album release party the other night in NYC and he spent a lot of time with the queen of warm-ups, Rosa Acosta.  Could this be a budding romance???  We’ll see…He also recently said he would love to battle Chris Brown and has no doubt he’d dance circles around him.  I’d have to concur…O is ill.

I’M JUST SAYIN’Shouts to DJ Mousetrap, Adam Oww & Marcus O’NealI hear Mystikal is coming home today. My people in Jersey are saying Joe Budden was attacked downtown in front of Magic Sneaker.  Can anyone confirm details???Former Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams has joined the long list of women leaving Matthew Knowles…she’s dropped him as a manager.I’m hearing Lauren London and Wayne have named their baby boy Lennox Samuel Ari Carter.  Congrats.I still dig Aubrey Oday but she does look a little … ummmmm … what do you think??

RUMORS BY JAZZY F!

What’s going on ALLHIPHOP? Jazzy had to take a break because my heart was pretty heavy with the disaster that took place in Haiti. Everyone make sure you take action to help the people in Haiti. This is a cause bigger than us all. We need the entire Hip-Hop community involved.

Everyone has been asking if your boy Melo was gone break down and finally tie the knot with La La. You guys no longer need to ask. She announced on the Wendy Williams show that the two will be getting married this summer in New York City.

La La on the Wendy Williams Show

Michelle Williams finally decided to cut lose of all ties with Matthew Knowles.. A source of mine told me that the Kelly and Michelle have not been pleased with the way Matthew have managed their solo careers for years now and what the real punch in the stomach is are the bank accounts that don’t add up to even half of what Beyonce is banking.

Jazzy is not going to really touch on the Trey Songz Bisexual rumors because the ladies are in so much of frenzy over him do they really care. I am sure they would still drop the panty draws for the homie Trey anyway as I am sure they would for my boy Ray J as well. What the hell is this talk about Jay-Z, Jeezy and Trey Songz starting a group? iCant!

Nelly has been in the studio getting ready for his new album and also he and Ashanti just may be getting back together. They may be so back together that the two just might be shall I say it. Yuuup! Getting married. The two have been together for several years so it would only be right.

Did you guys see the McDonald’s commercial with Buddha from I love New York in it. As it has been said most of these contestants are only signing up for these shows to pursue their careers in the entertainment business. Buddha had a site for his acting career before and while he was on the show.

Jazzy F. is out ladies and gents. You guys know where to find me. TheSocietyOnline.biz & twitter.com/itsTHESOCIETYHAITI, WE LOVE YOU!!!

They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!

Jay-Z Loses “Rockafella” Restaurant Battle In Court

Jay-Z may be one of the most powerful entertainers on earth, but the 40-year-old rap mogul recently lost a court dispute with a restaurant in New Castle, England.

The rap mogul, who raked an estimated $122 million dollars combined with the earnings of wife Beyonce last year, sued celebrity chef Terry Miller, over the use of the word “Rockafella,” the namesake of Miller’s eatery.

The dispute entered the courts in 2006, when Jay-Z claimed that the name would confuse fans into thinking Miller’s business was associated with his Roc-A-Fella Records empire.

Miller, 51, launched his restaurant with the proceeds he earned from winning $250,000 on a cooking reality show titled Hell‘s Kitchen.

A court ruled in favor of Miller and gave him granted him the exclusive trademark and the right to use the name in the UK.

This is not the first time a popular celebrity has lost the rights to a name in the United Kingdom.

In 2007, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs was banned from using the moniker “Diddy” in the UK, after losing a court battle to Richard “Diddy” Dearborn, who claimed the rap mogul was interfering with his trademark rights in the UK.
