Fifth Man Charged In G-Unit Beating; Accused Of Stealing Fee

(AllHipHop News) A fifth man has been charged with assaulting a Canadian promoter last weekend, which resulted in the arrest of G-Unit, member Lloyd Banks.

Police have charged 26-year-old Rahim Visram, of Kitchener, with theft over $5000, for allegedly stealing the group’s performance fee.

Banks, born Christopher Lloyd, has been in custody since early Saturday morning (January 9), after he and three other men were charged with beating and robbing booking agent Chris Hines in a local hotel room.

The men were reportedly involved in a dispute over the fee Banks was to receive after a performance at Club NV.

Banks has posted $50,000 bail and was held by immigration officials, reportedly because he failed to disclose his criminal record to border officials prior to entering the country.

Banks and three other associates have all been charged with aggravated assault, forcible confinement and robbery.

The rapper’s associated Tyrell Cooper, 24 and Sean McGee, 31, were both released yesterday after posting $25,000 bail, while Nicholas Sloane, 25, remained jailed.

Rahim Visram is due back in court on March 24 to answer the charges

Lupe Fiasco, Hikers Top Mt. Kilimanjaro

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Lupe Fiasco was among the artists, musicians and philanthropists who reached the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s largest free standing mountain.

Lupe Fiasco was joined by Kenna, Isabel Lucas, Jessica Biel, Santigold, Emile Hirsch, Elizabeth Gore, Alexandra Cousteau, Kick Kennedy, Simon Isaacs, Bernise Ang, Michael Muller, Jimmy Chin, Melissa Arnot and Dr. Greg Allgood.

The climbers spent six days hiking and climbing the mountain. They set out for their final trek around 1:30 AM local time.

About seven hours later, they reached the Uhuru peak of the mountain.

“The thrill of conquering your fears especially in such a physically and mentally taxing environment can’t really be done justice in words,” Lupe Fiasco said in a statement.

Millions of people followed the climbers during their week long, 50 mile journey on www.summitonthesummit.com, a website dedicated to raising awareness about the global clean water crisis.

Viewers watched as participants scaled the mountain, while coping with climate conditions that ranged from hail and snow, to the effects of the 12,000-foot altitude, which can cause fatigue, dizziness and headaches.

“The last 48 hours have been the most intense and physically grueling experience of my life, miraculously we all made it to the top together,” Emile Hirsch added. “To have such a complete success for such a worthwhile cause – the global clean water crisis – more than reaching the summit is what is really satisfying ”

Ethiopian born, Grammy nominated musician and philanthropist Kenna was the mastermind behind the concept of Summit on the Summit.

He was grateful that each participant made it to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

“Even with as many grandiose illusions that I have had, this has gone beyond my wildest dreams and expectations. The influencers, educators, staff, crew, and publicists have literally braved this on behalf of the world and in a personally meaningful way on behalf of my father.”

Jay-Z’s Director Speak On “Illuminati” Rumors

When Jay-Z’s “On To The Next One” video premiered New Year’s Eve, the black-and-white clip, with its ominous images of animal horns, crucifixes, and skulls, sparked a barrage of conspiratorial questions. Was Jigga a Freemason? Was the clip backed by the all-powerful Illuminati? And just how in the hell did Jay get the new Jaguar XJ before it even hit the U.S.? Award-winning UK-based video director Sam Brown, the visionary behind clips for Corinne Bailey Rae (“Put Your Records On”), James Blunt (“You’re Beautiful”) and the Foo Fighters (“Wheels”), has the answers to all those questions and more. After all, the man directed Jay’s avant-garde statement. Brown goes on the record. ––Keith Murphy

VIBE: When you were first approached about directing Jay-Z’s “On To The Next One” did you feel you had to shoot the video differently considering it was hip-hop?Sam Brown: It was important to ignore the fact that it was a hip-hop video, and simply make a video. It was going to be radical almost by default because the hip-hop video is an oddly conservative genre…it seems more stuck in its message than other types of music videos. But also, I wanted to make a video that appealed to hip-hop fans.

There’s been a lot of talk about Jay’s video containing Freemason imagery such as the horned animal head, an eagle and skull. What are your thoughts about such talk and why do you think music fans are so quick to believe a conspiracy narrative?

I’m aware of the stir the video has caused and what people are saying. I think when you’re dealing in abstract imagery people are going to want to draw lines between things and make sense of it. However, I’ve always felt that the viewing public was, in general, extremely visually literate. They don’t always want or need things to be spelt out for them. One of the great things about music videos are they can be enjoyed purely visually—it doesn’t need to mean anything or make any sense. Conspiracy theory is another thing entirely, and seems to me to be about projecting pre-existing beliefs and desperately looking for things that confirm them. There is imagery in this video that is drawn from all over the place. None of it is owned by any one culture or belief system. You can connect anything if you try hard enough, and make it mean anything you want it to.

Were there any differences between filming the more low-key likes of the Corinne Bailey Rae and James Blunt and an in-your-face artist like Jay-Z?

I tend to approach all types of artists in the same way. I try not to have preconceived ideas of who an artist is, or what they’re going to like. Whoever they are it’s good to take chances with them, and to ignore what they’ve done before.

Did Jay come up with the avant-garde treatment for the video? If so, do you think he (or yourself) was aware of the talk that some of the imagery would ignite?

[To] tell the truth, I wouldn’t speak for Jay. I know he really liked the video. He strikes me as a very intelligent and forward-thinking person and I have huge respect for him and his label for wanting to bring something different. As the man says, he uses his cojones.

Touché. So what was the overall direction Jay was looking for?

He gave me a very loose brief, and made it clear that we should be progressive with the video. All the imagery was thought up by me and was a response to the track itself. For those interested, the idea is actually about a funeral for old imagery and ideas, hence all the gothic and oppressive stuff. I was also trying to contradict the excess of hip-hop videos by making something brutally simple and claustrophobic.

How were you able get the new Jaguar XJ before its commercial US release?

Jay-Z’s a very influential man.

You have also done television commercials. Is that how you got your start in the industry?

Actually I started in music videos and moved over into commercials. Budgets were plummeting in videos, and it was becoming very hard to do what I wanted to do creatively. [As for the future], I’m filming two commercials back to back, one in Buenos Aries and one back home. I hope to do another video after that if I can.

Has “On To The Next One” wet your appetite to direct more hip-hop videos?

Yes, I think so. But there would have to be a reason to do it, I guess. With Jay-Z, there was.

Wednesday Fashion Feature: Are These Celebrity Couples Turning Into Each Other?

Do you think it’s true that couples begin looking like each other as time goes on? Well these stars prove that this may be the case in the style department, at least on more than one occasion! Who knows who initiated it out of the two, but just check out a handful of these matching duos:

Amber Rose and Kanye West

Ah yes, the infamous “Kamber” – otherwise known as Kanye West and Amber Rose. Perhaps the best dressed celebrity couple around these days, Kamber agrees on an edgy, up to date style that blends high fashion with street swag. How adorable was it when they were spotted in Europe, rocking the same kicks?

Although each of them has their own unique style, we’re guessing Kanye’s bank account didn’t hurt Amber in achieving her overnight fashion icon status.

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson pictured in NYC this weekend

Awe how cute, a matching bow tie and dress. From their Gothic Alice In Wonderland themed wedding to a recent NYC street sighting, its clear that Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are both big fans of a sort of punk rock/hipster look. Wonder if their son Bronx will catch on to the heavy black eyeliner and jet black hair fad.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry pictured this weekend in LAX

The recently engaged Katy Perry and Russell Brand are starting to look as one already. Looks like Katy has traded in her bright red lips and bright pin-up girl image for a more subdued dark look. Are you feeling the change?

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon

We’ve seen these two in matching Halloween costumes – this year as angels, last year as fire fighters – but Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have taken it further than that. Along with many red carpet looks, they also seem to enjoy matching their winter outerwear too.

Cute or kind of corny?

Jay-Z and Beyoncé have always had one thing in common when it comes to fashion – a somewhat understated style. They both have generally played it safe with red carpet and street looks. Do you think they consciously coordinated outfits, like the two above?

David and Victoria Beckham

The always striking David and Victoria Beckham both have a sharp, polished look. They are trend setters, whether dressed casually or formally. We’re sure wifey had an effect on David’s ever advancing fashion sense, but either way, they are both usually on the same page with their ensembles. Seems they even rocked the same hairstyle at one point!

Christina Milian and The Dream

Wonder if The Dream and Christina Milian both woke up feeling like the 80s, or if they planned out their black and white matching ensembles. They have been caught more than once looking eerily similar – just peep his jacket in precisely the same shade of orange as her dress:

How about you – have you started morphing into your significant other? Even slightly influenced by his/her style?

MC Lyte: Still Rockin’ With the Best

Lana Moorer, better known as MC Lyte, is a Hip-Hop legend.

Straight up.

Having developed her career for over twenty years, the Brooklyn native has cemented her reputation as not only one of the pioneering female emcees but also a street anthropologist of sorts. Her intricate storytelling and undeniable presence within the game even earned her the honor of being the first female artist to be recognized by VH1’s Hip Hop Honors. Never afraid to speak her mind, Lyte’s outspoken approach has gained her nothing but respect and admiration from both peers within the industry and listeners alike. Between her Executive Vice-President position at DuBose Music Group and a number of new musical and creative projects, quitting the game is certainly the last thing on her mind; as always, she is still rockin’ with the best.

“I’m now recording more songs at a steady pace than I’ve done in the last couple of years!’ She laughs, immediately dismissing any retirement rumors. “Usually I just do a song, let it out, then do something else and rest up then come back, but this is the most consistent I’ve been.” Since joining DMG last spring as both EVP and the “flagship artist” for the label, she has no intention whatsoever to trade her studio time for just an office job, stating “I’m doing lots of recording for internet-based release music, as well as for the album.”

The exact details of the release remain a relative mystery at this point in time, as Lyte highlights that there is no intention of rushing this unnamed project to meet any industry demands or expectations. “I am just working on it and out of it is coming truth, flow and lyrics,” she explains proudly before describing the project as “just me, back at what I am accustomed to doing and that’s rocking a microphone.” Though recording is still a priority for her, she has also enjoyed throwing herself whole-heartedly into the business side of the industry. “It’s very hands on for me, which I enjoy,” she says passionately. “There’s a bit of an executive that lives in me, so I get to let that part of my creativity fly, which is awesome.” It is actually rather refreshing to learn that a veteran emcee like Lyte still clearly views the game with the passion and hunger of a rookie.

After spending most of her adult life perfecting her craft, Lyte has certainly learned a great deal about her creative abilities and the need to develop as an artist in order to stay relevant. When asked what she feels she has learnt from the game over the years, she responds honestly, “I think I’ve become more accustomed to flow.” She elaborates, “The last five records, there was really a lot of attention paid to flow, but now more so than ever. When I first came out with Paper Thin and Lyte As A Rock, I was just talking. Now I’ve grown into more into somewhat of a melody.” Although she has tried to inject a little more soul into her rhymes, she stresses that it is still important for her to retain “enough edge” to reach her listeners “but in a melodic way.”

Maintaining the fine balance between edgy and soulful is not an easy task, but it is the ability to do so that sets MC Lyte apart from many female rappers today. Frankly, with a much greater focus on image and controversy than actual ability, it almost appears as though they just don’t make femcees like they used to. It must be said, however, that the industry has also changed a great deal since the first wave of female artists surfaced in the Hip-Hop world. Fans are no longer content with just rocking to a record and finding empathy with the lyrics; they now want to know every intimate detail of an artist’s life and with the development of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter it is becoming increasingly easier. Lyte explains, “There used to be a time when mystery was better but it’s completely changed.” It is no wonder that artists sometimes find themselves bearing their souls a little too much in their tweets or updates, especially since it seems to be expected of them today.

Rather than fight the inevitable, many artists are choosing to embrace the Twitter Age. A member of plenty of social networks herself, Lyte reasons, “People want to know that they can find you and touch you and I think [joining the networks] makes much more headway in that capacity than hiding.” After all, in her eyes “it’s just a matter of really making yourself accessible, because you get to touch the people from all around the globe.” In fact, as Lyte quite correctly points out, “Once upon a time, there wouldn’t really be a way for you and I to set up this interview. You know, it’d be a bunch of beaurocracy, but [now] we can actually get things done!”

Inspired by the power that the internet has to bring like-minded people together, Lyte decided to develop a new social network specifically for women in Hip-Hop. Initially the idea grew from her desire to “make more information available to the young female MC” and then she later decided to “open the floodgates” to women in all aspects of the game, from DJs to journalists.  In the past few years Hip Hop Sisters has grown phenomenally and provides not only a platform for women to network and create opportunities, but also “a safe space for people to be themselves.”

She explains that HHS is a place where “women get to share their work and have it respected.”  Men are of course also welcome on the network, so long as they “understand that they’re in a space where all of that disrespecting of women is not going to take place.”“We definitely like to show support for people’s artistry,” she stresses. Eventually, Lyte also hopes to expand the movement further by planning yearly events with concerts, showcases and seminars, where women in Hip-Hop from all over the world can come together.

A symbol of unity and strength among females in the industry, Hip Hop Sisters is certainly proof that there is a great deal of talented women in the game. Lyte explains why these potential stars do not tend to get the opportunity to shine within in the mainstream music market. Bluntly she says, “The bottom line is money. Until a female emcee comes out and sells some units it’s pretty much going to be this way.”

It is not, however, a question of women lacking talent, as there are plenty of gifted femcees out there. “When it comes to lyrics, there are plenty of people who can rock the mic in circles around some of those people that have major record deals.” The implication is that when it comes to the mainstream Hip-Hop market, lyrical ability and authenticity tend to be viewed as less significant than qualities like image and marketability today. “[Female emcees] may not be on the front of that magazine but they’re definitely still there to be seen and to be heard,” she maintains. “They’re definitely in existence; they’re just not pushed in the forefront because possibly they’re saying too much.”

There is little point in denying that Hip-Hop is still very much a man’s game, bringing forth the question as to whether there really is any scope for change in the near future. “It’s just right now we’re all playing follow the leader, so I’m waiting for a real, male emcee to take the forefront and let folks know that there’s no need to have to disrespect a woman in your rhyme,” she says bluntly. “[Dissing women] makes you look no bigger, no tougher and no badder.”  According to Lyte, “It just takes a handful of men to do it and it’ll switch up because the rest of them are followers.” This is how misogyny caught on in the first place, monkey see, money do.

As one of the first artists to speak out about the misogyny in Hip-Hop, MC Lyte has always provided a strong voice for women. A truly pioneering artist within the game, her music has always been more about putting a message in the music rather than merely catering to the mainstream. Making a very valid observation about the seemingly disposable nature of both music and artists today, she states, “I think a lot of people lose the zest when their aim is to do more than just communicate with people or give them a message.” Blaming profit-focused record labels for the decline in pure, authentic Hip-Hop, she explains that things were much better for the culture when labels “just stepped back and let the creative people do what they did.” Perhaps the true problem is that artists have lost the originality and innovation they once possessed. After all, according to Lyte the development of this copycat mentality “is where it all started going to s**t.”

Former Clipse Manager Gets 32 Years for Drug Conspiracy

(AllHipHop News) Former Clipse manager Anthony ‘Geezy” Gonzalez has been sentenced to 32 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to leading a $20 million dollar drug conspiracy.

Gonzalez was accused of completing numerous kingpin transactions, such as purchasing 625 pounds of marijuana for $540,000, and 10 kilos of cocaine for $200,000 in 2007.

Because of his previously light criminal record, community support, and cooperation with the federal government, Gonzalez received the minimum sentence allowed under federal guidelines.

The prosecutor’s 82-page indictment stated that Gonzalez ran a drug empire that moved a half-ton of cocaine and over a ton of marijuana through Hampton Roads, Virginia since 2003. The former nightclub owner is alleged to have received his drugs from Panama, Florida, California, and Arizona.

The federal documents detail that Gonzalez laundered money through several front business, one named as the Clipse booking agency Soul Providers Management, and his organization styled “themselves out as music producers, rappers, entrepreneurs, club owners, clothing designers and other legitimate occupations in order to conceal the true source of their income.”

When the indictment was handed down last April, Clipse member Malice released a video showing his modest family life, and denied the group had a legitimate drug dealer lifestyle as portrayed in their music.

The Clipse’s latest album, Til the Casket Drops, was released on December 8.

AllHipHop ChartWatch: The Landscape Is Desolate! Gucci & Young Money Hold On!

ChartWatch for January 13, 2009

            It’s

the second week of 2010 and already we have a problem.  Apparently bad music is becoming

contagious.  You see, first people bought

enough of Flo Rida’s second album, R.O.O.T.S,

to make the Florida rapper one Hip Hop’s top selling artist for 2009.  Flo Rida’s#### single, “Right Round” featured

a singer by the name of Kesha Rose Sebert.

That song was released back in March.

Fast forward to today and Ke$ha is number one on the charts with her

debut album Animal.  Ke$ha managed to sell 151,000 copies of the

album on the strength of her hit single “Tik Tok” where she raps and sings

about…well nothing.  So next time you

here a sub par rap song…turn it off.  Or

you just might get a Ke$ha…or a Fergie…or a – I think you get the point.

            Since

I’m already talking about Ferige we might as well move to the only

representative of Hip Hop (unless you want Ke$ha.  I don’t want to count Ke$ha.  I barely want to count the group at hand) in

the top ten this week.  The Black Eyed

Pea’s latest album, The E.N.D,

remains at number eight by selling another 35,000 copies.  The album has gained some recent momentum

with the release of the latest single, “Imma Be.”  What did I tell you to do when you hear music

you don’t like?

            Moving

beyond the top ten, Lil Wayne’s label, Young Money drops down one spot to

number 13 but still manages to sell 24,800 copies of We Are Young Money.  This

album is pretty much setting the stage for the release of debut discs from

Drake and Nicki Minaj.  By the looks of

things the two should be well received.

            They

are followed by Eminem whose comeback album, Relapse, sells 24,600 and takes the number 15 spot. Her is another

album that is paving the way for the future.

Relapse 2 is due in a few months so fans won’t have to wait long to

re-up on Relapse.

            Eminem

was 2009’s highest selling Hip Hop artist.

Next up is the second highest selling.

Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 album moves another 19,000 units this week and holds

the 22nd spot.

            Next

up is Gucci Mane, who has managed to quietly hold his position in the top

50.  This week the Atlanta rapper sells

11,000 copies of his second major label album, The State vs. Radric Davis.

            Finally,

rounding out the top fifty for Hip Hop this week is West Coast alum, Snoop

Dogg.  The rapper’s tenth album, Malice ‘N Wonderland, moves 9,800 copies

and grabs the 46th spot.

            Not

too much happening this week.  The charts

are kind of bare and nothing is really coming out, but we should have some good

albums dropping soon.  See you next week.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Olivia’s New African Solider! Ray-J’s Brother Blasts Danger Softly!

DISCLAIMER:

All

content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual

info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.THE DAILY TWO SENSE

To everybody that may have been confused. Yesterday, I had a typo in the Lloyd Banks write up where I may have referred to him as Buck. All these B’s and the drama with both of them must have gotten me confused. Too many rumors! Also, when Alfamega’s kids got housed at T.I.’s club somebody said, “you knew that was Tip’s club, because you wrote about it with Shawty Lo.” Man, these rumors are so…consuming…I can’t remember it all.

OLIVIA’S NEW MAN?

Did I miss something? Somebody hit me with the most random rumor ever. They just told me that this dude is Olivia of G-Unit’s new man. His name is Fally Ipupa and he is a Congolese singer.

Here is the song they share:

Olivia wasn’t lying when she said she was big overseas.

RAY-J’S BROTHER DOESN’T LIKE THE GAY RUMORS!Danger already retracted her statement, but C-Dove’s still speaking his peace! Make money!

CHRIS HINES BEAT DOWN GAME

This isn’t even funny, but I had to post it since one of my Canadian readers put me on to it. You can play Lloyd Banks without getting any charges or lawsuits.

EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY

This will be sort and sweet. If NBC lets Conan O’Brien go for Jay Leno, they are the fail of the decade. Well, that may be Manny Pacquiao, but that’s another story. Just because Leno failed at primetime doesn’t mean you ROB Conan of his glory! Sheeeeeet! Anyway…fail to fail! Here is Conan’s statement in full.

People of Earth:

In the last few days, I’ve been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I’ve been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I’ve been absurdly lucky. That said, I’ve been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn’t the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn’t matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it’s always been that way.

Yours,

Conan

CONAN, WE LOVE YOU!!! NBC, SMARTEN UP!

They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!

Cam’ron x DJ Drama– “Boss Of All Bosses 2” (Gangsta Grillz)

Before 50 Cent hit the scene, Cam’ron and his Harlem Diplomats were serving the fiends with hot mixtapes. A decade or more later, Cam is rebuilding his brand without Juelz, Jim or Zeke. Fortunately, “Boss of All Bosses 2” is a good indication that Killa is back to form. And he’s brought a friend with him. Vado, the acclaimed New York producer, rides shotgun. His beats anchor “Boss Of All Bosses 2” as Cam flows with his normal nasal Dadaism. And, of course, DJ Drama’s stamp of approval makes this ready to hit the streets to the delight of the fiends.

Snoop and Jay-Z Remix “I Wanna Rock”

The Kings of Rap get together for the remix of one of the best songs of 2009.

The result is Jay-Z and Snoop on the King’s G-Mix of “I Wanna Rock.”

The song is favorable, but some have raised their ire when Jigga says,

“It’s No Biggie, I’m Just The King Now.” Snoop spits a

Rakim-influenced verse that eventually merge a bit of Rob Base in

there, the man that rapped in the 80’s version of this jam.

Listen to it and then download it.

Wyclef Calls On Fans To Help Haiti After Earthquake

(AllHipHop News) Rapper and activist Wyclef Jean is calling upon fans to donate money to help the battered island of Haiti, which was hit with the largest earthquake ever recorded on the island today (January 12).

Jean is asking his 1,290,000 followers to donate $5 dollars to his Yele Haiti non-profit organization, which will send aid to the nation. “Haiti today faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced,” Wyclef told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “The magnitude 7.0 earthquake – and several very strong aftershocks – struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince. I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.”

Clef asked fans to text “Yele” to 501501 to donate $5 to Yele Haiti, his non-profit organization that has provided aid and assistance to the country for over five years.

Haiti was rocked by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake today, causing widespread damage to the tiny Caribbean country.

To make matters worse there were five aftershocks, including two that were 5.9 and 5 .2 on the Richter Scale in the past hour and more are expected.
