AllHipHop ChartWatch
August 5, 2009
Welcome back to ChartWatch where we show the top ten albums of the previous week and put fans onto new releases in Hip Hop for this week. A lot of big things, some positive and some negative, are going on in Hip Hop right now. First off, Baatin of Slum Village passed away on Saturday. If you havent had the chance to listen to the Detroit rap group now is the time to go out and pick up an album and keep the memories of artists like Baatin and J. Dilla alive.
Now all that being said there are some positive notes out there in Hip Hop music. Jay-Z and Raekwon released album covers that have people already debating the quality of the music. The debate might be a bit premature (given that we havent heard anything) but it does show that a lot of fans have an extreme interest in their new work. Plus, Shyne is supposed to be getting out of jail (although some fans might not think this is positive) and may/may not sign with Jay-Z. Well see what Puff says about that. Probably the most positive note this week is that some Hip Hop actually got onto the top 10.
Michael Jackson, of course, leads the pack this week. He has three albums in the top ten starting off with Number Ones selling 112,000 copies this week. The Essential Michael Jackson and Thriller hold the third and fourth spot selling 69,000 and 61,000 copies respectively.
That brings us to the newest entry to the charts. Fabolous sells an impressive 97,000 copies of his fifth studio album Losos Way and debuts in the top ten at number two. Hopefully the Brooklyn MC will be able to maintain sales into next week.
American idol alum Daughtry holds the number five spot with his latest album Leave This Town.
Slipping a couple of spots but still selling 54,000 copies, Maxwells BLACKsummersnight, holds the number six spot. The comeback album has been performing strong for the last few weeks paving the way for the next two instalments in the trilogy, blackSUMMERSnight and blacksummersNIGHT. Maxwell fans have a good couple of years ahead of them.
The chronicle of pop music, Now 31, is at number seven followed by the Hip Pop group The Black Eyed Peas. The groups fifth studio album comes in at number eight on the charts this week. Ill give props where they are due. In a time of receding album sales The Black Eyed Peas are slowly climbing up the charts.
The Kings of Leons, Only By The Night and The Hannah Montana 3 soundtrack round out the charts holding the ninth and tenth spots.
DROPPING THIS WEEK
Not too many albums coming out in the new releases section so Ill keep it short. Well start off with Amanda Blank. She is a singer/rapper that is in the same vein as artists like M.I.A and Santogold. I find with artist like these fans either hate them or love them. Her album is going for $8 on itunes so you may want to go over there and check her out.
Next up we have the artist responsible for Shes Fine (Halle Berry), Walk That Walk, and Ice Cream Paint Job. Dallas artist Dorrough releases his latest album Dorrough Music. Some of you like him some of you dont. Regardless, his album comes out now so if youre a fan go out and get it.
Last but not least, Brooklyn MC Poison Pen returns with his latest studio album, The Money Shot. The new album features artists like Immortal Technique, M.O.P, Silkk The Shocker, and Gillie Da Kid. If youre a fan of east coast Hip Hop then you may want to give this one a listen.
See, whatd I tell you? Short and to the point. Thats the ChartWatch for the week. Hit a store and pick up an album.
“I Cant Remember”
Jazz & Hip-Hop go together like peanut butter and jelly, and it is no surprise that Jazz has been one of the prominent forefathers of Hip-Hop’s existence. For every B-Boy breakbeat that exists lies a premium Jazz/Funk fusion from prominent musicians willing to create music outside of their box. Without the Donald Byrds or the Herbie Hancocks, Hip-Hop would be devastatingly different. Without the Cab Calloways and the James Browns, would Guru & Solar still exist?Since the time of his career’s inception, Guru has spent his time injecting Jazz into the very soul of Hip-Hop by way of the Jazzmatazz collection (1993-2007), his first solo album Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures (2005), and his earlier work with former collaborative partner DJ Premier in Gang Starr. Under his own imprint 7 Grand, Guru has managed to float above the recession by releasing his latest solo project Guru 8.0: Lost and Found where he’s been under a rigorous global touring schedule providing a Jazz/Hip-Hop show for his international fans. Both him and producer Solar make a conscious effort to keep Jazz/Hip-Hop alive in a world where Hip-Hop music has currently overdosed in Auto-Tune usage. To get a sense of where they stand in their love affair with Hip-Hop, the duo discussed their ultimate Jazz & Soul songs that have sculpted them into the international musicians they have become today. After pioneering the culture with his Jazz/Hip-Hop fusion, how much soul does Guru really have? Plenty.Guru’s Got Soul:James Brown “The Payback”James Brown is an icon. His passion and love for the music you get to see in every aspect of what he did, and it went beyond the stage. He was such a trendsetter at the forefront of what he did. That particular song-just the whole the lyrics behind it and the whole concept of that song is, like you dont need a video for that song. You can envision it. That song is classic.Donald Byrd and the Blackbyrds “Rock Creek Park”Donald Byrd is known in the classical Jazz realms with his work on Bruno. I worked with him on Jazzmataz as well and hes been a great mentor to me. What he did with the Blackbyrds is just phenomenal. He went and did fusion with Funk and Soul and took Jazz to a whole nother level and he was one of the first to do that type of fusion. Rock Creek Park was just the classic. We used to hear that from block parties to cookouts and its just been the classic. Its almost even a B-Boy classic that cats were break dancing to to this day around the world, so I have to big up Donald Byrd on that one.John Coltrane “My Favorite Things”Coltrane was the quintessential horn player. Not even influencing saxophones alone. He influenced all horn players alike and just his style and what he did with that horn. Again, he was at the forefront of his era, and actually ahead of his time with what he did, and that song in particular with just the melody. It translated to it went so far to cross so many barriers that it went all the way to be over by Mary Poppins. [laughs] You know, thats a classic. In fact, we have a Hip-Hop version that we do in our live show.Herbie Hancock “Rock It”Of course, Herbie Hancock won a Grammy for that. I know that from talking to him and working with him on Jazzmatazz that he had no idea [Rock It] was going to have the effect that it had. He, like Donald Byrd, was a fusionist and he wanted to experiment and think outside of the box and do something different. Of course, he was known in the realm of pure Jazzhood, but he was interested in doing something different and he got with Grand Mixer DXT and did this incredible tune that became a Hip-Hop classic. I remember going to the spot to watch breakers go off to that and I was amazed by the reaction to that song. That song was just a classic everywhere from New York to around the world.Dave Brubeck “Take Five”Thats just a classic Jazz joint. The thing about that is Brubeck is an instrumentalist, but he made a song thats been remade by vocalists and instrumentalists. Thats when you know youve done something as a musician when you have vocalists doing your songs. Ive heard it done by so many people and we actually have a Hip-Hop version that we do at our live show that Solar laced. People got to come see us live to see these things. Big up to Dave Brubeck, a great musician, definitely ahead of his time and definitely respected and pushed the art form in is genre.Solar’s Got Soul:Billie Holiday “Strange Fruit”I was a little kid when I first heard that and I had no idea what she was singing about and it sounded very as a child you cant really express you knew it was important, but important is not the correct word. Of course as I got older and became a young man and listened to the song, I realized how powerful the thing she was singing about was and I stopped to think about it, it dawned on me that the images were horrific! That affected me in a since that social consequence, before there was even a word for it, was a part of the black music experience and the Jazz music experience.Cab Calloway “Minnie the Moocher”It was just inspirational on every given level of what an entertainer is and I cant not mention MC Hammer or some of the great Hip-Hop artists that have been instrumental in bringing the music to another generation, Guru and myself to some degree. I was a child in the movie theater watching the Blues Brothers cracking up but I was seeing this guy do his music with a big band and at that time and there was nothing like it when I was a child, it was R&B, Soul, and Rock. I was just blown away. Still, a great performance and its fun to watch, just enjoyable music coming from a whole other perspective.Steely Dan “Peg”Theres a Rock group that I particularly like by the name of Billy Daniels that I refer to as Jazz Rock. When I started producing Jazzmatazz Vol. 4 I didnt quite realize what that meant, Jazz Rock/ Jazz Soul. I could say as a producer and also just as a fan of music that theyre one of my all time favorites and their tracks have been sampled a ton of times by many different eclectic artists like Q-Tip and others. Their musicianship, that kind of opened my eyes a lot to Jazz and Hip-Hop.Bob James “Take Me to Mardi Gras”I grew up in Hip-Hop and I always grew up being musical, so I was there with Hip-Hop from the very beginning. Almost every record that you heard in one way, shape or form came from a break beat and a large number of break beats were Jazz breaks. Out of all of those Jazz breaks, one of my favorite breaks came from a song called Take Me To Mardi Gras by Bob James. I also had the pleasure of working with him on Jazzmatazz Vol. 4 which was one of my dreams come true. Matter of fact, outside of James Brown he is the most sampled artist in Hip-Hop history.Ray Charles “Georgia On My Mind”Before Ray became a movie, I was really into Ray Charles. I always found his story to be incredible that somebody with no site was able to navigate with that type of pressure of racism and all the conditions that go with that. To become one of the greatest musicians, a heroin addict, he actually handled his business. Hes a very inspirational individual in music that he overcame so many obstacles as of not having site, being able to tour, write music, work with musicians, marry and be fruitful. All of his big sings are favorites of mine, but I particularly like the notability of Georgia.

Hieroglyphics founder Del Tha Funky Homosapien has teamed with Artifacts member Tame One to create a brand new album titled Parallel Uni-Verses.
Newark, New Jersey native Tame One is best known for his role as one-half of The Artifacts, in addition to his involvement with underground super groups The Weathermen and the Leak Brothers.
Oakland bred rapper Del and Tame first met almost 16-years-ago, through a mutual love of the party life on the road.
The pair kept in touch throughout out the years, resulting in Parallel Uni-Verses, a ten-track effort produced by producer Parallel Thought.
“Man, I ain’t even gonna be egotistical like that and try to say that we are trying to usher in some new revival of whatever,” Del told AllHipHop.com. However, he adds, “I’m a say this: we are the element that is missing, not [just] because I said so. That’s what’s up; we didn’t sell out for all the luxury and monetary gains. The original ways, we kept at and built upon those.”
Tame One promised fans the album will stand out over contemporary releases, because of the sonic quality and clarity of the samples and our vocal performances.”
I have always been impressed by his [Del] wordplay and originality. Rap-wise, neither of us use words only because they rhyme; I believe we both utilize substance as opposed to nonsense, Tame One said.
Parallel Uni-Verses is slated to hit stores later this year on Gold Dust Media.
Rappers Eminem, Jay-Z and Kanye West will do battle during the 26th Annual 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, which take place live in New York this September.
Eminem and Kanye West were each nominated in four categories for their videos We Made You and Love Lock Down, while Jay-Z landed two nominations for his D.O.A. track.
The big showdown in categories this year will take place between Eminem and Kanye West, who will compete for a Moonman in multiple categories, including Video of The Year and Best Special Effects.
A three- way showdown will take place when Eminem, Kanye and Jay-Z battle for Best Male Video, as well as Best Hip-Hop video, although all three also have to deal with Flo Ridas#### single/video Right Round.
A crop of new acts will compete for Best New Artist, including Asher Roth, Kid Cudi and Drake, although they have stiff competition in the form of Lady Gaga, who is also in the running for the title this year.
Lady Gaga and Beyonce Knowles topped all nominees with nine this year for their tracks Poker Face and Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), respectively.
The 2009 MTV Music Awards air live Sunday, September 13 at 9:00PM from New York.
Killer Mike has announced his collaboration album featuring an all-star cast of Atlanta rappers will land in stores September 1. Killer Mikes Underground Atlanta features a number of Atlanta artists together for the first time on one release, which includes artists like T.I., Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, OJ Da Juiceman, Young Dro, Pastor Troy, Fonzworth Bentley, Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater and others. “This record is the ATL experience, Killer Mike said of the album. In the 90s, everyone here was on their own particular vibe yet they all vibed together. I remember seeing Goodie Mob, Joi, Monica, Kilo and OutKast all at the Warehouse on the same night and the crowd rocked with each artist regardless of genre. Atlanta is a special city where people party together and not just with their scene; thats what I wanted to capture with this project.” Killer Mike is still working on his untitled debut for T.I.s Grand Hustle label.
Incarcerated rapper Shyne will be released on October 6, after serving over 8 years in a New York prison for his role in a shooting inside of a New York City nightclub. HipHopDX spoke with Shynes lawyer Oscar Michelen, who confirmed the release date, although the rapper was due in court today (August 4) in regards to the terms of his parole once he is released from Woodbourne Correctional Facility in Sullivan, New York. What happened was when they sentenced him [in March of 2001 to ten years] they didnt sentence him to any parole post release supervision, which was mandatory. So the Correction Department has asked the court to re-sentence him under the law they can do that, explained Michelen. In related news, sources told AllHipHop.com that Jay-Z is currently attempting to sign Shyne to his Roc Nation imprint.
Kidz In The Hall have announced details of their new album Land of Make Believe, the follow-up to their debut album The In Crowd. Land of Make Believe, which comments on the state of the music industry. According to group member Double-O, the album will mean different things to different people. For us it is the space between where we are now as artists and where we feel we should be, Double-O told AllHipHop.com in a statement. It’s the idea that until you actually get to your destination or goal you have to act like you are already there.” The first single from the album, which will drop October 13 on Duck Down Records, is titled Flickin. As a lyricist, I used this album to serve as a soundtrack to my aspirations and to my downfalls, but also as a chance to evaluate who I am as a man compared to whom I envisioned myself to be, group member Naledge added.
A cousin of The Game has filed a civil suit against The Game in regards to an assault during a funeral for a cousin last year. Robert “Kirky” Kirkwood filed a lawsuit against The Game in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming that The Game and a group of men assaulted him last July, after he confronted the rapper about paying for $7,000 worth of funeral costs. Kirkwood is seeking financial compensation from the incident and is seeking medical and court costs, in addition to his claims of severe and permanent damages during the attack.

Envision a desolate warehouse; everything about this building is nondescript. Lets call this place corporate headquarters. Inside the hollow doors, a blinding spotlight shines down illuminating a wretched assembly line. There is a listless conveyer belt; it whines as it shoves forth prepackaged stereotypes. Container after container whirs by in an overwhelming fury. Within these shrink-wrapped skeletons are faux Hip-Hop reproductions. Robotic arms line each side of the conveyor belt; theyre positioned to snatch away any renegade instances of creativity and uniqueness that may have slipped past. These distinguishing traits are no longer necessary and are carelessly tossed aside. Innovation and creativity are sacrificed for a mass-produced sound. The corporation gives little yet reaps millions. Thats the cost-effective Amerikkkan way. Somewhere a greedy cash register laughs, cling cling.
These warehouses are springing up around the nation. Hip-Hop is being hunted and transformed into an empty rap clone. Some MCs, like Brad Scarface Jordan are aware of this mutilation. Rather than entertaining the powers that be; Scarface has chosen to remove himself from that particular arena.
AllHipHop.com: With your contribution to the game you have our respect and our ear; what would you say about the evolution Hip-Hop? How would you describe what it was in its infancy to what it has become today?
Scarface: The 360 deal is f***ery. Youre giving up money all the way around. What ever you do the record company is there. Thats bulls***. My advice to any artist is to do what Lil Wayne is doing or what Soulja Boy is doing, maintain the rights to your s***. That 360 s*** is total f***ery. I wouldnt dare even dream about doing a 360 deal. As a matter of fact, thats some made up s***; thats not even in the books.
Well, with any kind of music that you f*** with, you got some great music and you got some not so great music. Thats Hip-Hop, thats R&B, thats Rock and Rolllet me give you an example. A Rock guy, his name is f***ing Meat Loaf, right. I think that hes the absolute f***ing worst! But, people love Meat Loaf. You can think of the worst MC youve ever heard and people love it, you can think of the worst R&B singer youve ever heard and people love it. So, its all in ones preference on whats great and whats not
AllHipHop.com: What would it take to get you out of retirement or this just a self-imposed hibernation period?
Scarface: I dont know. I dont like it no more. I dont like the powers that be at all. I dont like it.
AllHipHop.com: Are you so disgusted with them that youll stop making music, period? So personally, youve stopped all recording, or you wont make another track for the public to hear?
Scarface: Thats hard to tell.
“I think the business side of Hip-Hop p##### me off. You know, the business side, the political side the business side and the political side of Hip-Hop p##### me off.”
-Scarface
AllHipHop.com: After your work on Emeritus have you made any new tracks?
Scarface: No.
AllHipHop.com: Have you been back to the studio?
Scarface: Nope, and I dont plan on going either.
AllHipHop.com: No? [stagnated silence] How can you love Hip-Hop and feel like that?
Scarface: I think the business side of Hip-Hop p##### me off. You know, the business side, the political side the business side and the political side of Hip-Hop p##### me off.
AllHipHop.com: Do you feel as though youre equipped as a business man to handle what was going on in the industry?
Scarface: I dont want to be equipped for it.
AllHipHop.com: You just dont like playing the game?
Scarface: Yeah, I didnt like playing the game, you know. You got to play the game fair. If the game aint played fair thenyou could have it all and still lose everything. They dont play the game fair. You got to play the game fair, man. Any game that you decide to play in life; you got to play the game fair. If you dont play the game fair then nobody will play the game with you no more.
AllHipHop.com: Is it inevitable for our respected MCs to stop making music because theyre disgusted with the bogus practices in the industry?
Scarface: Its so many things on what the industry is. Why would you buy somebodys s*** when you can download it for free?
AllHipHop.com: But thats just one aspect. Some of these rappers dont deserve to get their album purchased when they only have one good track and maybe a funny skit. I know you personally dont get down like that; but, you have to look at it from both sides. Besides that what other industry practices dont you agree with?
Scarface: Like I said, I just dont like the way that these record company owners and executives are playing god with a n**** career.
AllHipHop.com: Why not embrace the indie route?
Scarface: Why?
AllHipHop.com: You will have full creative control; youd be able to do everything on your own. You wouldnt have to rely on the puppet masters approval to get your creativity out there.
Scarface: You know whats so cold about the puppet masters?
AllHipHop.com: Whats that?
Scarface: The puppet master wont admit to being the puppet master. Thats whats so cold about the puppet master. Man, Id rather not, theres so many other ways, for me to Im so talented in other areas; so, f*** Rap, f*** Hip-Hop! Ill say it again; f*** Hip-Hop.
AllHipHop.com: But what about your fans; how can you say that?
Scarface: My fans should say f*** Hip-Hop, too. Hip-Hop doesnt even exist no more. Does it; is it Hip-Hop still? Is there such a thing? Define the word.
“You was proud to go and buy a f***ing Ice-T record 6N The Morning, Power. You was proud to go and pick up A Tribe Called Quest or N.W.A. You was proud of an Ice Cube or Kool G Rap record….you was proud to own that s***.”
-Scarface
AllHipHop.com: To me, Hip-Hop is a cultural element of expression. It expresses lyricism, dance, art; it gives insight into our community. Why do you think Hip-Hop is losing that essence?
Scarface: Any two ways that you get a White boy singing the Blues; somebodys lying somewhere. You know, the Blueshave you heard the Blues before? For a White boy to put the Blues out, and says whats hot in Blues, its a lie; because, he doesnt even have no idea. He doesnt have no idea why this is done and why we feel how we feel. You cannot expect for a 45 year old 50 year old White boy to dictate whats hot within the Black community.
Why the f*** are they in charge of what we put out? Well they are. But, why the f*** do we allow them to be in charge of whats put out. Thats not Hip-Hop, man. That white boy is not Hip-Hop, youre f***ing 50 years old, man. How could you even think that?
AllHipHop.com: Will the public ever reach the point of critical mass to where we will demand that Hip-Hop stop being manufactured to fit one certain sound and fit one certain image? Will a boycott work?
Scarface: Let me tell you what Hip-Hop is [and] let me tell you what Hip-Hop was.
Hip-Hop was The Sugar Hill Gang, Kurtis Blow, Lovebug Starski, and Kool Mo Deeyou know. Hip-Hop was LL Cool J and Whodini, and Run-D.M.C. Hip-Hop was Blastmaster KRS-One, D-Nice, Big Daddy Kane, Marley Marl, MC Shan and Biz Markie.
You was proud to go and buy a f***ing Ice-T record 6N The Morning, Doggin The Wax, Power. You was proud to go and pick up A Tribe Called Quest or N.W.A. You was proud of an Ice Cube or Kool G Rap record. You was proud to own AmeriKKKas Most Wanted; you was proud to own that s***. I agree that 2 Live Crew made a mark in Hip-Hop, you know. I believe that a lot of states in this country have dope MCs that made a huge impact on Hip-Hop. The minute it turned into a business and not a culture it became too watered down. The essence of Hip-Hop is not in the music anymore. The element of Hip-Hop is not in the music anymore.
AllHipHop.com: With that being said, and as a veteran MC, shouldnt you feel some sort of responsibility to bring it back to what it was? The kids coming up now, they really dont know any better unless they invest that time to go back to discover Big Daddy Kane, to go back to MC Shan, to go back to A Tribe Called Quest, to actually discover what it was then to what it is now
Scarface: I really think that N.W.A. made the best Hip-Hop records ever! I mean if you define Hip-Hop like you define the Blues; they made it a way of life rather than just a fad. You know, JJ Fad, MC Hammer, Big Kid Flash I know youve heard of these people, right?
“Hip-Hop aint no booty-dew. Do the booty-dew, do the booty-dewdo the so and so, do the so and so-you know. Dont get me wrong; every genre of music is going to need their dance records…
-Scarface
AllHipHop.com: What will it take for Hip-Hop to get to back to embracing creativity and delivering a message rather than being a numbers game?
Scarface: It aint no numbers game no more. Nobody has any numbers no more. Hip-Hop is changing; its a money thing. Until the powers that be start taking it seriously itll continue to be in the state that its in. Its some s*** thats out today that wouldnt have ever made it before the change. I think that today radio and visual played a huge part in what they say Hip-Hop is.
Middle-aged black people and middle-aged white people make up Hip-Hop; when honestly, youth is Hip-Hop. I hear some f***ing MCs that will forever go unnoticed because of the way that the game is. [Ed.s note: Scarface mentioned the greatness of K-Rhino and Z-RO as prolific Southern MCs.] But they always tell us the truth, the story. Hip-Hop aint no booty-dew.
AllHipHop.com: [laughs]
Scarface: [chants] Do the booty-dew, do the booty-dewdo the so and so, do the so and so-you know. Dont get me wrong; every genre of music is going to need their dance records. Youll have to listen very very closely to what Im saying. I feel like, the powers that be, that control whats being heard in black music and whats being signed in black music, you know, as far asthe people who put that s*** out there, man. They dont know nothing about our craft and our culture and our struggle.
Its impossible for Henry Fartburger to know whats hot in Hip-Hop. Its impossible, he dont know the culture, hes not familiar with the culture, dude. Hes never been to the f***ing hood, unless he signed one of these goofy ass n****s and they took him to out there, on a pass. Them m####****ers dont pass through the hood, man. Theyre not from there. They dont know anything about us. They just sign a check. If you ask me its a f***ing conspiracy to destroy black musicto destroy the craft.
AllHipHop.com: Will Hip-Hop preserver and escape this stage that its experiencing now?
Scarface: With the 360 deals in place and people putting out songs that dont make no f***ing senserather than giving the great s*** a chance? Lets say that Eminem did between 6 and 7 [hundred] thousand the first week. Man, f***ing Eminem is brilliant. Thats a f***ing artist. It aint no f***ing way he shouldnt have did a million or two the first week. That muthaf***er is dope, man. But then you go to what we call that assembly-line Hip-Hop; muthaf***ers is going crazy for that s***. Were not hearing Eminem on mainstream radio. We only get to hear that on XM. Theyre not playing Jadakiss on mainstream radio.
We hear a lot of Wayne, which is good, to me Wayne is one of the dopest artists that is out. What about Outkast? Im not hearing them on mainstream no more. Are they trying to repaint the picture of what Hip-Hop really is? Are they trying to put another face on Hip-Hop? How could you?
AllHipHop.com: Did these feelings propel you to retire after you released Emeritus?
Scarface: Nah, man. Dissatisfaction, Im cool. Im going to have my fanbase. I think it was a lot of bulls*** between me and my record company that made me not want to f*** with it no more, in all honesty.
AllHipHop.com: Is this just a phase? Can you really stay away from the mic that long?
Scarface: F*** the mic. Man, f*** the microphone. Id rather watch from a distance.
I dont want nothing to do with it. Im done with that s***. That was a phase of my life that was good to pass on. Im just glad that its over. Im done.
“Im done.”
A woman from Fort Bend County, Texas is suing Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man, for alleging shooting her with a pellet gun as she sought at autograph after a concert with Redman at the House of Blues in Houston.
Method Man, born Clifford Smith, is accused of shooting a pellet gun at Mary Anderson from the window of his tour bus, as she sought an autograph.
In the lawsuit which was filed on Thursday (July 30) in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, Anderson claims she was struck at least six times in the chest and torso area and required medical attention after the incident.
The rapper is also accused of infliction of bodily injury, infliction of emotional distress, as well as offensive physical contact.
The conduct of the defendant was so extreme and outrageous in character and so extreme in degree as to go beyond all bounds of decency and should be regarded as atrocious conduct and utterly intolerable in a civilized society, Andersons Daniel Horowitz III of said.
Anderson is seeking compensation for physical pain in suffering in the past and future, mental anguish, physical impairment, disfigurement and legal and medical bills incurred because of the shooting.
At press time, Method Man was not available for comment.
The second trial of New Orleans rapper C-Murder began Monday (Aug. 3) with the tentative selection of 11 jurors.
The Times-Picayune reports that the proceedings began when the No Limit Records rapper (born Corey Miller arrived in court in handcuffs.
Miller’s attorney, Ron Rakosky, referenced remarks made by the late Sheriff Harry Lee to resurrect his request to have his client’s trial moved outside of Jefferson Parish.
Before his death in 2007, Lee labeled Miller as a “gangster” who was “living out his lyrics.” As a result, Rakosky maintained that Miller’s right to a fair trial was “poisoned from the day of his arrest.”
“We’re talking about an extraordinary, an extraordinary, amount of coverage,” Rakosky said. “This man will never get a fair trial.”
Jefferson Parish District Attorney David Wolff countered Rakosky by saying the defense attorney’s claims were the same arguments he made when Rakosky’s previous change of venue request was denied in April.
The D.A.’s argument registered with 24th Judicial District Court Judge Hans Liljeberg, who denied Rakosky’s new change of venue request.
Jury selection for the case commenced Monday morning as a panel of 39 potential jurors was sworn in and questioned about their knowledge of Miller and whether pre-trial publicity has hurt their chance to fairly assess the facts surrounding the case. The tentative selection of the 11 jurors comes seven years after the death of 16-year-old Steve Thomas.
According to reports, Thomas died Jan. 12, 2002 after he was shot through his heart while being stomped by a group of men during a rap concert at the now-closed Platinum Club. Miller, who has denied killing Thomas, is charged with second-degree murder.
Although a jury convicted him of the charge in 2003, then-Judge Martha Sassone overturned the 38-year-old rapper’s conviction a year later after agreeing with defense attorneys that prosecutors improperly withheld criminal background information on three key eyewitnesses.
If convicted, Miller faces a mandatory life sentence in prison for the 2002 incident. In addition to the Thomas case, the rapper also faces a sentencing hearing on August 25 for his role in an Aug. 14, 2001, incident at Club Raggs, a bar located in Baton Rouge. In May, Miller pleaded no contest to two counts of attempted second-degree murder in connection with the incident.
As a result, the plea deal calls for the rapper to serve a 10-year sentence, minus the time he has already been behind bars and under house arrest. Prosecutors in the case hope to use a surveillance video taken of the incident at Club Raggs incident in his Jefferson Parish trial, as well as lyrics from Miller’s song “What’s the Reason.”
According to prosecutors, the tune, which is featured on Miller’s 2002 album Tru Dawgs, includes a description of both cases. Rakosky disputed prosecutors’ claims as he argued that there was no evidence of when the song was written or produced.

All
content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual
info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.THE DAILY TWO SENSE!
I can tell you there are some heavy hitting rumors coming at you today, even though there isnt as much to mention.
I am considering another sidekick. Shout out to Shelz and Lady Drama, my former illseed peoples. Just keep that in your mind, people. Normally, I like my illseed assistant to deal more with the pure gossip, where I deal with the Hip-Hop rumors.
Anyway, anybody that knows that advertising is, it is an exchange, but its not free. We are talking to people, but I hope nobody thought the ads were just free. Anyway .thats it on to the rumors!
RICK ROSS IN SHOOTOUT?
I dont know what this is all about, but I am getting word that Rick Ross had a problem in Miami when his Maybach was shot up. This reportedly happened and still the BAWSE was well protected by his friend appropriately titled Gunplay. I heard he wasnt playing when she busted his gun back at the would-be assailants. The police did come out, but, since Ross wasnt the one instigating, he didnt do anything but answer some questions, according to rumor.
MORE ON SHYNE AND JAY-Z
Here are some bits of info for you. Shyne is in N.I.C. (North Infirmary Command). From what I have been told, that is an area for high profile people, such as celebrities. The big man Jay-Z allegedly and reportedly went to visit Shyne last Friday. Shyne is with the state and at N.I.C. for his court hearings to see if they will let him out early. This is illy! I wonder! Hey, you know Jigga DOES NOT walk into a jail and not get noticed. I mean, this is all a rumor (wink, wink), but my sources are telling me this is 100% truth. Time will tell.
GUCCI MANE IS WHERE?
OK, I dont know what Gucci Mane is doing, but I know what the rumors are saying. First of all, I reported that Gucci missed a recent date in Chi-Town. Well, theres a new set of rumors coming out now. Remember when it was rumored that Gucci was sent back to jail for have tainted wee wee at his P.O.s office? Well, I heard that Gucci didnt go to jail but he got something else as a compromise with the law. I am not hearing he was sentenced to rehab to avoid jail. I am hearing that this is going to carry on for about three months for Gucci so that he does not have to go to jail for parole violation.

WHO IS LYING? KANYE OR THE MEDIA!?
Kanye West is one media hater event though the media is largely a reason why he is so popular. He should do another interview with AllHipHop and these sorts of things wouldnt happen. Anyway, the news outlet that claims Ye said he was the new King of Pop now that MJ is gone is sticking to their story. Remember what happened? Kanye reportedly said this:
“I was just listening to Wendy Williams and heard some quote about me saying I’m the new king of pop. Not only did I not say that, I haven’t said anything. It makes me feel bad that obviously I made people feel that I would be corny enough to say something so whack after the passing of an idol, a legend and more than that a human being with feelings and family. It scares me to think what people will believe, without even a source.”
Scrape TV is saying that Kanye is a boldface liar and is totally saying their story is factual. Editor Dave Dalkin wrote:
“Though we will make no aspersions on Mr. West’s comments we do stand behind our story and our editorial principles and want to ensure that no one, not celebrity nor politician, is able to alter the truth out of some sense of regret or self-rapprochement. Such abuses speak to the very heart of free speech and the nature of an open society.”
There is video or audio somewhere. So Scrape what you got?
ILLSEEDS QUICKIES
Eminem didnt diss Soulja Boy. I know a lot of people wanted that to be the case, but it was a hoax.
Rumor has it, Sarah Palin is going to be divorced soon. All you conservative cougar lovers, get ready!
Ben Original hit me up with some info. He told me that a lot of the rumors have been gassed for one reason or another and that Beyonce didn’t try to stop the release of Kelly Clarkson song “Already Gone”. Kelly attempted to stop it herself because she didn’t want to look like a biter.
Shout out to K Trybe Boyz In N. Carolina— Reek Smooth, Dirty Stacks, A R The Money Boss
I heard Beyonce has struck down rumors that Jay-Z is going to do a bunch of talking about their wedding in his book.
RANDOM QUOTES
Ghostface told Angela Yee exactly how he felt about women versus men and sex. I dont think this means that Ghost doesnt think men and women are equal, which is being suggested.
“I’m saying, for a woman that’s supposed to have respect [she should] not just let anybody slide into her temple. It’s even worse if she [has] kids. I don’t think it’s [necessary] for someone who has respect for themselves to take a different [man] home every month.”
About Karrine Superhead Steffans, Ghost got even more frank.
“I would never wife that. She had so many d—s in her mouth, I would never wife that.”
EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY
AW MAN! Im telling you men, these women are going crazy! Watch your back, man! Watch your front too! This is the latest. A man caught a major L in a Wisconsin motel after a mans wife found out he was cheating. Son, she gathered the other three women he was sexing over to the hotel and they got him good. One of the mistresses lured the man to the hotel and promised him some sex .aw man. She blindfolded him and tied him to the bed and then texted the other ladies including his wife – to join her. They roughed him up a bit and then they did the unthinkable. GLUED HIS JOHNSON TO HIS STOMACH. The man started to scream and all the women fled. There were charged with false imprisonment. The first mistress was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and misdemeanor battery. Dude went to the hospital and released. Dudes step your game up!

DRAKE COMMENTS ON FALL VIA BLOG
This bottle of Opus One is low but my spirits are high my friends. I am about 2 hours away from Toronto, CA where I will be spending the next chunk of time recovering from a surgery that I now must have. I embarked on this tour with a torn ACL, MCL, and LCL and due to the events that happened the other night lord only knows what other damage I have done. On the bright side I will begin the reflecting and soul searching that its going to take to make this album and my outfit on the night I fell was crack. I will forever push myself beyond the limits despite advice and recommendations given because even with this new found success I am still the kid who wanted this more than anything in the world. Its funny when I read comments from previous fans who have lost interest because of the radio play and exposure I have. I just want to assure anyone reading that nothing has changed on my end. I refuse to get comfortable, I refuse to fall in line and follow anyone elses formulas. I still work as if So Far Gone had never dropped and Im still trying to figure out how Im going to gain entry to this game.
Missing someone gets easier everyday. Because, even though it is one day further from the last time you saw each other, it is one day closer to the next time you will
See you soon.

Eminem has denied being the rapper on a song called Die Already, which is a scathing diss towards Soulja Boy.
Wow whoever made Die Already really does sound like me. But it ain’t, the rapper said from his official Twitter account.
The song was released to the Internet and was also posted on AllHipHop.com as an official song. D12 rapper/producer Dawaun Parker even called out AllHipHop online.
That new Em diss is a straight up hoax. Can’t ya’ll tell? Couldn’t Allhiphop? he said.
The song comes on the heels of Eminem dissing both Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon.
The song has since been removed from AllHipHop.com.
The proceeds of Slum Villages highly anticipated album Villa Manifesto featuring reunited group member Titus Baatin Glover will go the deceased rappers family.
Glover, aka Baatin, 35, was found dead on Saturday (August 1). While police await a toxicology report, AllHipHop.com has confirmed that tragically, the rapper was found dead just yards from a known crack house in Detroit.
Baatin was supposed to be at the Rock The Bells date on August 1 in Toronto, Canada, but was turned away by Canadian immigration officials, due to his prior criminal record. In an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, Barak Records founder RJ Rice shed some positive news in the aftermath of the death of Baatin.
Rice, of RJ & The Latest Arrival fame, founded Barak Records in 1998 and has since released at least six Slum Village albums in partnership with lifelong friends and associates James J. Dilla Yancey, R.L. T3 Altman III and Baatin.
We are going to hire an independent CPA to track the sales of Villa Manifesto so that money can get to Baatins family and the appropriate parties, RJ Rice told AllHipHop.com. Its not going to be stopped and we are not going to pull a bunch of I.O.U.s as the record label. We are going to start the clock at zero. Mrs. Maureen Yancey [J. Dillas mother] raised all three of the group members. Jay Dee was an instrumental figure and founder of Slum Village. We dont want to see Mrs. Yancey struggling, so we are going to do the same for her. She is having real tough times right now. And we are going to try and develop some investments so that these woman can have some residual income, so we dont have to go down this path again.
Rice has worked with each one of the group members since they were teens, helping to manage or guide their careers, even founding Barak Records to release projects for each of the artists or their groups.
Both Slum Village and J. Dillas earlier works have been heavily circulated on the Internet, including instrumental productions and mixtapes of J. Dillas work in particular, cutting into potential proceeds for the rapper.
“We started this thing 17 years ago. And now that people have died and moved on these people have families and they hope that thing could have taken care of them as well too, Rice said. And they dedicated their lives for them to be who they were. Please do not bootleg the upcoming Villa Manifesto album.
Slum Village had just released a new single Cloud 9 featuring Marsha Ambrosius from Villa Manifesto album, which features high powered producers like Hi-Tek, Mr. Porter, Madlib, Pete Rock, Young RJ and FOCUS.
I know that this would be a relief on those two of the founding members that were part of Slum to at least know something is going to happen, Rice continued. Who would want to see their mothers in need?
A full, in-depth feature on Slum Village and the life of Titus Baatin Glover will run on AllHipHop.com tomorrow (August 4).
The friends and family of Titus Baatin Glover are currently making plans for a memorial service and funeral.
