DJ Qbert Launches Qbert Skratch University

Aspiring DJs will receive a helping hand in perfecting their craft, courtesy of legendary turntablist DJ Qbert.

The entertainer has joined forces with Napa, California-based ArtistsWorks, Inc. to create Qbert Skratch University, an online video learning site scheduled to launch in early 2009.

Through a series of progressive videos, Qbert will teach various levels of scratching techniques to students that range from basic to exotic to beat juggling.

With the university, Qbert sees unlimited potential in reaching newcomers who want to become an established DJ as well as veteran turntablists looking to take their skills to the next level.

“It’s cool that skratching has so many fans around the world and we can all be in one place now and learn from each other no matter where we live,” said Qbert, who will make assignments to students when necessary. “One day in the future, we’ll be able to instantly beam ourselves to any location in the world. But for now, the easiest way I can connect with other skratchers around the globe is through the QSU!”

Participants will be able to post videos on the University’s website as Qbert evaluates and responds to each video by offering personal guidance and suggestions via a response video or written text assessment.

Also, students can work at their own pace and move around the instructional videos.

The online school is the latest accomplishment for Qbert, who has been featured in the critically acclaimed documentaries Scratch and Hang the DJ.

In addition to providing a continuous block of instruction, the turntablist will post videos of competitions as well as his experiences on the road.

ALBUM PREVIEW: Left Eye’s Eye-Legacy

As one of the biggest selling female groups of all time, TLC

has no doubt left their mark on pop culture in the ‘90s. Their early beginnings

of injecting the message of safe sex through music was one of the ways TLC

managed to capture our attention and separate themselves from the pack. T-Boz,

Left Eye and Chili maintained their position at the top of the charts

throughout the group’s career. Sadly, tragedy struck with the untimely death of

the group’s most flamboyant member, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, in early 2002 during

a car accident in Honduras.

Left Eye’s death came as a shock not only to her group

members and family, but also to the millions of fans the group had touched

through their music. In addition to her work with TLC, Left Eye branched out on

her own to collaborate on songs such as Donell Jones’ “U Know What’s Up”, Lil

Kim’s “Not Tonight” and Melanie C of the Spice Girl’s “Never Be The Same

Again”. She also released an album entitled Supernova [Arista] which never released in the US. In addition

to this album, Left Eye has recorded many other unreleased songs, which where

selectively chosen for her upcoming release Eye Legacy [Mass Appeal]. With the assistance of a few new producers,

Left Eye’s legacy has been brought into illumination.

1. “Spread Your Wings” feat. Free (p###. The Heavy

Weights and Marcus DL) – The very

radio-friendly track is your typical inspirational song. Takes you back to the

days of TLC circa 1996. Either Free was featured on the song for less than a

millisecond, or she’s simply overshadowed on the song altogether.

2. “Rags 2 Riches” feat. Bobby Valentino (p###. Surefire

and Marcus DL) – A very West

Coast-type of flavor track. Perhaps K-Ci or JoJo would have been more fitting

than Valentino.

3. “Let’s Just Do It” feat. TLC and Missy Elliott (p###.

The Heavy Weights and Marcus DL) –

This is hands-down the hottest single on the entire album, which was the only

solitary track, which received an applause from attendees. Left Eye blended

well on the electric organ and bass-heavy track.

4. “Block Party” feat. Lil Mama (p###. Surefire and

Marcus DL) – This teeny-bopper track

is reminiscent of a down South booty bass 69 Boyz – ish song. Despite the

distracting musical backdrop, Lopes still rode the beat pretty well. Again, the

featured artist is not very memorable.

5. “Universal Quest” (p###. Andrew Lane,

Panauh Kalayeh, Danny Keyz and Reigndrop Lopes) – Another bass-thumping track.

6. “Bounce” feat. Chamillionaire and Bone Crusher (p###.

Surefire and Marcus DL) – The

least-striking thus far. Chamillionaire was a good addition on the track.

Probably could have done without Bone Crusher.

7. “Tampered With” feat. Wanye Morris of Boyz II Men

(p###. Surefire and Marcus DL) – The

mellow, story-telling beat featured Wanya on the hook. This one wasn’t too bad.

8. “Through The Pain” (Keep It Moving) feat. Ryan Toby

and Claudette Ortiz (p###. Surefire and Marcus DL) – Another slower tempo track. Claudette complimented the track

well.

9. “Friends” (p###. Surefire and Marcus DL) – Sounded more like Left Eye was reciting

poetry, rather than rapping.

10. “Neva Will Eye Eva” (p###. Andrew Lane, Reigndrop

Lopes and Panauh Kalayeh) – Featured

Left Eye’s younger sister, Reigndrop Lopes. The younger Lopes adds a bit of Rock

to the album.

11. “Let Me Live” (p###. Surefire and Marcus DL) – Another audience favorite, this single

seemed slightly more relevant to today’s music.

Bonus Tracks

“Let’s Just Do It” feat. TLC and Missy Elliott – Just as great as the original, this single

will produce a pretty good video.

“Wild Out (Crank It)” feat. Reigndrop Lopes – Another club ready track. The type of song

that gets you ready for a night out.

The Verdict

Since the songs on the posthumous album were pre-recorded in

the late ‘90s, it was a little difficult to truly appreciate them with today’s

music consisting of the return of the Auto-Tune and several other innovative

sounds. A few of the tracks stood out among the rest, however Left Eye’s

dedicated TLC fans will still be able to look beyond the melodies and

appreciate the mark she has left behind that will continue to live on.

Family of MC Breed Release Official Statement

The family of the late MC Breed has released a statement on the Flint native’s sudden passing this past weekend (Saturday November 22).

Breed had been hospitalized in September after collapsing from kidney ailments during a pickup basketball game.

Although hopeful his condition would improve, the rapper finally succumbed to kidney failure. He was 36 years old.

Despite the obvious anguish from this devastating loss, the family of Breed expressed gratitude for the love and sympathy they’ve received from the Hip-Hop community.

“We are saddened by our great loss. More than just an artist, we mourn the loss of a beloved father, son, broker, and friend,” the family revealed in a statement to AllHipHop.com. “We are overwhelmed by the tremendous outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. We are thankful and blessed to have been in his presence and want him to be remembered for his creative, caring, talented and hardworking spirit.”

Breed made an immediate impact with his 1991 debut MC Breed & DFC, which was powered by the classic, Billboard charting single “Ain’t No Future in Yo’ Frontin’.”

The Flint, Michigan native further put the Midwest on the map with his third LP The New Breed.

The album is memorable for the 1993, Billboard Top 10 single “I Gotta Get Mine,” which featured a then fast-rising young emcee named Tupac Shakur.

Breed’s management team also touched on the emcee’s passing by stating his premature death moved well beyond just losing a business partner.

“Managing Breed changed our lives for the better,” explained Darryl and Lisa Morris of Vanglorious Entertainment. “He touched so many and is credited with inspiring many of the Hip-Hop acts in music today. Word cannot express how much he will be missed.”

Funeral arrangements are pending in Breed’s hometown in Flint Michigan at the Lawrence E. Moon funeral home.

The rapper, real name Eric Breed, leaves behind 5 children ranging in age from 18 to 1 years old.

To Snitch Or Not To Snitch?

The opinions expressed in this editorial do not necessarily reflect the position of AllHipHop.com or any of its employees

The justice system in this country

sucks ass.  We all know that.  There are plenty of times when the

judge, jury and executioner don’t give a damn whether or not you’re guilty.

The jails are filled with folks of color and the reasons behind that are

convoluted and countless.

Is everybody in prison guilty? Hell

no.  The system is racist and unyielding in its desire to incarcerate our

folks.  Do we help the system?  Hell yes.  For every horrifying

story of the innocent spending years behind bars or folks being over-sentenced,

there are 10 stories about dudes who actually belong there.

That’s why this “no

stitching” doctrine confuses me.  There are times when it’s probably

best that you keep your mouth shut, but there are also times when giving up the

information is the better course of action.  The hard fast rules hurt more

than help in many instances, especially considering the source. Have you ever

noticed that most of the people barking all that snitch s**t are the ones who

have never been confronted by anyone related to lady justice?

How many have been in that

situation?  How many of those who claim to live by the no snitch code have

actually found themselves in a position where they had to evoke said

code?  Jake asking you if you saw your boy lift that DVD from the FYE down

the street does not count.  Seriously.  When was the last time you

found yourself in a hail of bullets only to cradle your best friends head in

your arms and watch his life drain from the bullet wound knowing the only thing

you can do is call the law?  I’ve never been there.  I don’t want to

be there and it’s unfair to judge anyone who has.

Can you truly say that your adherence

to some street law would be more important than attempting to bring some

homicidal maniac to justice?  Oh, I forgot. You would drop that vigilante

hammer on them, huh?  Posse up and go hunting humans, right?  Stop

boo-boo. Stop. You watch too many f###### Charles Bronson movies.

I think that in all aspects of our existence

there is evolution.  We are products of our experiences which are driven

by the decisions we make.  In the absence of that experience; your hard

core Hip-Hop-coated thought process doesn’t amount to a hill of beans to that

person who is living it.

You can feel what you want.  You

can concoct every situation possible that might require you to answer a

question posed by a homicide detective. Stand in your mirror and practice your

‘f**k you copper’ face. Take notes from Juice and Menace to Society and get

yourself ready.  I still really hope that you are never faced with such a

horrible circumstance. However, at least we know if you are, you will be able

to slick tongue yourself out of actually helping to bring your loved one some

justice and making the neighborhood a little safer for the rest of us.  We

thank you.

Even Killa Cam explained the code in

more detail once his camp apologized for the infamous Anderson Cooper

interview.  He explained that it’s not code, but apprehension that drives

the silence.  He said folks who cooperate with the police are frowned upon

in the community and open themselves up to more criminal attacks.  So does

that mean the code is nothing more than fear and apathy rather than a disdain

for the criminal justice system?

That fear is palpable and regularly

cemented by brutal attacks on those who choose to do the right thing.

However, when you don’t have the strength to speak up for your own community,

should you be berating those who do?  I don’t think so.

We have developed a mistrust for law

enforcement that is valid.  You can drown in the reams of paper that

document the scandalous mistreatment of minorities at the hands of the boys in

blue.  However, once you remove a single experience from that context;

once you look at the lives lost and pain suffered; you have to admit that we

also mistreat ourselves and that remaining silent or criticizing those who

speak may be just as scandalous.

MTV Airs Paris’ New Video

After years of being shunned by mainstream media outlets, militant Bay Area rapper Paris has secured an unlikely supporter in MTV for his latest album Acid Reflex.

The network finalized a deal last week to prominently air Paris’ revolution-based video “Don’t Stop the Movement,” which features an uprising of American citizens storming the White House in response to police brutality.

The video also showcases pointed criticism of America’s political media outlets, deftly dubbed in the 5-minute plus drop as “FoxsNBCNN.”

In an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, Paris expressed that politically conscious Hip-Hop’s return to the mainstream is long overdue and want the public needs.

“I appreciate MTV’s support to the fullest. It’s amazing to me that MTV would finally get on board and support a project like this, though not entirely surprising,” Paris explained to AllHipHop.com of his first mainstream support since being “blacklisted” following the controversial 1992 album Sleeping With the Enemy.

“Listeners have been thirsty for more balance in mainstream media for Hip-Hop for awhile, and the trend is definitely changing,” Paris observed. “Everything can’t remain artificially young and artificially dumb forever, and at least some of our music has to reflect politics and concerns in our communities in an environment where everything is political and conditions are worse then they’ve ever been.”

Although the album was released in September, MTV’s backing gives the project new life and exposure while coinciding with this year’s historic presidential election.

For Paris, he feels that his music perfectly reflects the disenchantment the country felt during the Bush administration which spearheaded President-elect Barack Obama’s landslide victory.

“The timing of the project and the election is perfect, the mood of the country is fed up and beat-down, and yet more and more people are hopeful now because of Obama,” Paris detailed. “This ties into the dual moods of disgust and optimism, because we have to do better, and we have to demand more from our country’s leaders and from those who represent us in the media. Regardless of how you feel about Obama’s politics, he’s better than the alternative, and he is extremely inspirational to millions of young people who almost always see only negative or escapist imagery of black people in the media.”

The activist/emcee is aware of the great opportunity the MTV coverage presents for his successful underground label Guerrilla Funk (distributed by Fontana/Universal).

In 2009, Paris plans to market a newly created film division to coincide with his music projects..

“There are still plenty of people out there who demand more from their entertainment and who want to hear material that is uplifting and reflects real life experiences,” Paris told AllHipHop.com. “We also have a film division that will feature DVDs of documentaries and full-length motion pictures, starting early next year.”

Paris’ new album Acid Reflex is available now in stores and through his website www.guerrillafunk.com.

The video “Don’t Stop the Movement” debuted on MTV on Saturday (November 22) and will now been in the network’s regular Hip-Hop rotation.

Ludacris: Theater Of The Mind (Album Review)

As an actor Chris Bridges seems to be surging with various roles on the big screen already under his wing. As a rapper Ludacris isn’t enjoying that same momentum. With millions of units sold over a span of six well received albums, the work he has put in is nothing to sneeze at.

But on the flipside Luda feels he still doesn’t get the proper respect he deserves as an emcee. With that hurdle in mind, Mr. Disturbing The Peace hopes to inject some of his movie mojo into his conceptually dabbed Theater Of The Mind (Def Jam).

The themed theatrics are set off on “Intro”. An usher announces the show is about to begin with Luda jumping in with his signature double time flow. “Undisputed” pits ‘Cris inside the squared circle with famed boxer Floyd Mayweather in his corner. Don Cannon utilizes some sped up soul vocals over a dusty horn section to set the background for Luda to go in with a barrage of punch lines.

The feature progresses into some narrative scenes with “Call Up The Homies” and “Southern Gangsta”. The former finds Luda going back and forth with The Game and DTP artist Willy Northpole, as all three share accounts of their travels during tense moments. The latter goes for a more dramatic effect with actor Ving Rhames narrating the track with assistance from Rick Ross and Playaz Circle.

Where this sonic journey falters is the abundance and rather ineffectual supporting cast of guest appearances. We get the always customary T-Pain feature in the rather forgettable “One More Drink”. The radio friendly single “What Them Girls Like” with Chris Brown fails to leave any lasting impression as well.

The biggest disappointment lies within the Jay-Z and Nas collaboration “I Do It For Hip-Hop”. What could have been one of the biggest tracks of the year falls prey to boring production that takes away from a normally stellar lineup. Closing out the show is the sleek DJ Premier produced “MVP” and the surprisingly vibrant 9th Wonder engineered “Do The Right Thing”.

While Theater Of The Mind has some great moments (“Last Of A Dying Breed”) scattered throughout the disc, it lacks a true cohesion to bring everything together. As the headliner, Luda’s solo act is also limited to only four out of fourteen tracks which ultimately dims the spotlight on his showmanship. Is this a reflection on his skills? Of course not, dude can still spit with the best of them. But a blockbuster this was not.

Poe Boy also recently signed a deal with Interscope to market and release Billy Blue’s major label debut.

The Alchemist: The Main Ingredients

Alchemist

has been crafting recipes for his first cookbook since his debut, 1st Infantry, was released in 2004. A

producer known for his cinematic, yet rugged production style that is

California bred but embedded with East Coast DNA, The Alchemist’s Cookbook EP, just

released on iTunes, is the crème de la crème of Al’s forthcoming album.

“It was

like chopping the best pieces off the Chemical

Warfare album, the chemical spillover of my next project,” speaks Alchemist

on his latest EP release. With clout that boasts production credits on

certified Hip-Hop classics by the likes of Mobb Deep,

Royce Da 5’9, and Dilated Peoples, the low-key

producer has been in the lab experimenting with these newly formed weapons of

mass destruction.

“It was

hard to hold on to these records, I got a Three 6 Mafia and Juvenile record

that is absolutely crazy. I can’t even sit on it anymore,

it’s burning holes in my pocket. That’s what happened with the Jada (“From Now to Then”) record, I had it for so long,

that it had to come out,” reveals the Beverly Hills native.  Recently coming off the “Still High”

tour with Method Man and Redman and “Step Brother” Evidence, his main priority

has been creating awareness for the album. Alchemist’s exuberance toward his

new project and current label are like the pillars that manifest his importance

in keeping what’s left of Hip-Hop music’s integrity.

“A

label like Koch has had much success but they do things in typical fashion. I

like to think outside of the box and I feel like I’m one of the few artists on

Koch who’s going to bring something you wouldn’t expect from them. Not to

disrespect Koch or anybody; they give me my full

creative space“, says Alchemist.

Set to

drop in the first quarter of 09’, Al’s Chemical

Warfare, is stocked with material worthy  of merit, consisting of

collaborations Hip-Hop heads only dream about. With more hits under his belt than  Sammy “The Bull” Gravano,

Alchemist breaks down the science behind some of his most ingenious records.

AllHipHop.com:

Before we get into the classics, you assembled Evidence, Blu,

and Kid Cudi on “Therapy” off The Cookbook , three artists with

contrasting styles and unique sounds, What inspired you to put these guys

together?

Alchemist:

Kweli was also on the record, but there was some problems at the last minute. It was one of those

late nights in the studio. Ev

was passed out on the couch and I just stumbled on to this sample and started

chopping it, adding s**t to it, really just bugging out. I turned the lights

real low in the studio and just went into another f**king zone with the beat.

Ev woke

up later and just started writing to it. He came with the idea of “therapy”

because we kind of like therapists with this music. And he was the one who put

me on to Blu, who we’ve been working with

lately.  I just knew he would sound

perfect on the beat. Also Kid Cudi came to my studio

and just laid a couple hooks for me, and I never seen anybody record their

hooks so perfectly and his doubles, techniques were blowing me away. He’s on

his way to becoming the next Akon, Nate Dogg, etc. He did a hook on my album and I think Fabolous is going to rock on it.

Royce Da

5’9’s “I’m Da King”

AllHipHop.com: “I’m Da King” has been

hailed as one Royce’s greatest songs of all time. What was your inspiration

behind this beat?

Alchemist: I just

stole the beat from RA The Rugged Man, [laughs] RA put out a record a few years

ago saying  that

I  stole the “I’m Da King” beat from him, but I don’t know man, RA sniffs a

lot of glue,  so pardon him for the

Elmers mishaps.[laughs] Nah, there was a beat that he

had that sounded similar , so he thought I bit it from him. But I was on the

keyboards for that track so there’s no way I could have bit it.

I

remember that day I was at D&D Studios and Royce was in town, and I had a

bunch of new beats on deck. Royce just came through to the studio, he’s always

real confident in the lab. I mean he falls off the tree of Slim Shady. So when

he’s in the booth, he knows what he wants to do right away. As far as the

concept of the song, there isn’t a lot of interaction and throwing ideas back

and forth. He came with the hook, and he’s one  of the few lyricists that I’m

glad to say that I was able to be part of their careers in the early

stages.

Like

with Saigon, I was one of the first people to lace him with a beat when he came

out of jail, so I took it a little personal when I didn’t get to lay any beats

for his album when he got with Just Blaze.  It’s all good though but at the same time, I took a mental

note.

Pharoahe Monch

“No Mercy”

AllHipHop.com: You worked early on Pharoahe

Monch’s solo career on his debut, Internal Affairs, you

produced the track “ No Mercy” that also features MOP. Were you all in the

studio for this one?

Alchemist: I

straight rallied with Pharoahe. Really I was on his

back about making this album. Growing up, Pharoahe

was definitely one of my top three favorite MCs. So at the time he was down

with Rawkus, and I was still coming up. I just

remember him coming to my crib, and I was just playing all these beats and he

liked this one in particular. But I told him Prodigy was already writing to it

for his HNIC album,

and he said, “I don’t wanna hear anymore beats,

that’s the only one I want“. So I called P, and told him Pharoahe

really wanted it and he was just like, “Aight, do

your thing.” I mean, he didn’t really care about it like I did.  It’s a weird ass sample that I just found

off some soundtrack and it was one of the last songs he did for the album.  Also, it was my first time working with

MOP and, Lil’ Fame is also one my favorite MCs.

Prodigy “Keep It Thoro”

AllHipHop.com: How did you capture the grittiness of Queensbridge so perfectly on “Keep It Thoro”

by your boy Prodigy?

Alchemist: I was

actually in LA on vacation, staying at my mom and dad’s crib and I brought my

ASR with me. It was like carrying a f**kin’ body with

you, I think I’m still lop-sided from carrying the ASR around. I just set up

shop in some small ass room in their crib, and there was a bunch of left over

records sitting in the garage from when I used to live there. I just set up a

makeshift turntable setup with an old boom box that was there. That sample just

happened to be one of the few records left over, and the drums are from an old

school Hip-Hop classic that I don’t want to blow up. [laughs]

But it was the only drums that I had, I didn’t even

have my drum samples with me.

When I

went back to New York, I played it for Prodigy and he wanted to use it right

away, actually I think I played it for MOP too, but Fame might tell you better.

Then we actually went back to LA for an award show or something, and P felt

like he couldn’t wait and booked some studio time. P had a cold that day too,

that’s why he sounds so nasal, but it just sounded so dope. It’s all about imagination, you close your eyes, and just think you can go

[wherever] you want in the world. If you’re inspired enough you can take

something back from that world. In my mind I can go anywhere, it’s like my

sixth sense.

Dilated Peoples “Worst

Comes to Worst”

AllHipHop.com: You also contributed your production skills to one of

Dilated Peoples’ biggest hits “Worst Comes to Worst”,

where did this beat originate from?

Alchemist: When I

found the loop, it had actually been used by a Wu-Tang

Affiliate, Killarmy or somebody, don’t quote

me on it though.  It wasn’t even a

serious effort, just some chops that I put on a tape with two other beats.

Dilated was in New York working on their album, and it was like the 15th

or 16th beat on the tape, it only had one sequence at the time.  They loved it though, took it to their

hotel that night and wrote to it. They even came came

up with the “Worst Comes to Worst”.

We actually recorded it at D&D also.

I had

no idea it was going to take off the way it did, but Capitol was behind the

record 100%. I think it was really the fans that took the record to the next level.

It was just the perfect timing.  I

never over think any concept, I feel like people will always recognize music

with substance.

Capone N’ Noreaga f/ Foxy Brown “Bang Bang”

AllHipHop.com: Though you’ve avoided getting involved in many of the  so-called

“beefs” that many rappers succumb to, you produced “Bang Bang” by  CNN and Foxy Brown which set off a long

lasting battle between the two female emcees. Did you know that this song would

stir so much bad blood?

Alchemist: I

remember Jonathan Lighty picked me up, and we were on

our way to a Mobb Deep session. But he got a call

from NORE to stop by his session. NORE is one of my favorite people to work

with when it comes to picking beats. If you go into the studio with him and a

DAT full of beats, you’re going to record a song no matter what. I can’t

remember a time where I went into the studio with NORE, and after the 2nd

or 3rd beat he wasn’t like, “That’s it, put that up – I want that

beat.”

We were

in New York, and like twenty-minutes into writing after I cued up the beat,

NORE was like, “Yo I’m a get my little sister on

this.” And he jumps on the cell – telling some girl to come down to studio

right now, and all this. Foxy must have been thirsty to get on a hardcore

record or just happen to be in the neighborhood because within 10 minutes she

walks through the door with her little crew of girls from Brooklyn, and they

were hood. I never really kicked it

with Foxy, but she really is a thorough girl straight from Brooklyn.  She came in and started writing

immediately, didn’t take two seconds. She wrote three rhymes, and after she

went into the booth we stood there by the door thinking like, “Ok let’s see

what happens.” And she spit one, and then immediately spit another one and we

all started going crazy.  The whole

studio bugged out and NORE loved it. I knew she was going in, but I didn’t think

it was really going to be start some beef with Lil’ Kim at the time.

Alchemist f/ Prodigy, Illa Gee & Nina Sky “Hold You

Down”

AllHipHop.com: One last record that is a now classic off your 1st infantry album, “Hold You Down”

featuring Prodigy, Illa Gee, and Nina Sky. The sample wasn’t unheard of, but you freaked it your

way…

Alchemist: I had

the song basically done without the hook, and I was loving

it. But I reached out to Cipha Sounds and at the time

he had this new girl group, Nina Sky,  but they only had like one

record out at the time, so I wasn’t sure if they’re capable artists. Ciph though was just like, “Throw me a record” and “I’ll

show how dope they really are.”

Sure

enough, he sent it back and the hook was already done, and I loved the record

even more. Nina Sky are super talented girls. Also at

the time Prodigy was going at it with Jay, and he used the sample already, but

it was “Soon You’ll Understand.” So we took it and did our version or whatever

because P wanted to flip it, but I was still a fan of Jay’s. I even saw Jay

after the record blew up at Nobu, and I approached

him actually kind of apologetic at first, like “My bad about the record,” but

Jay was like, “Nah nah, I actually like that record.” That really blew me away,

and to this day Jay is one of the few artists that I really want to work with,

so Jay what up?!!! [laughs]

No real two cents today…just R.I.P. to MC BREED.Also, don’t forget to read The Top 10 Worst Fads In Hip-Hop History (Part 1 of 2). Part 2 is on the way. I have to type it up and get it up on the site.

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHINGal*************@***il.com.

THE RETURN OF RAEKWON

Raekwon is about to come back out. This news is far from a rumor, but I thought I would bring it anyway. The album is Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II and it is all set to drop in the first quarter of 2009. Instead of coming out under Wu-Tang and Aftermath, it is coming out with Rae’s Icewater Records. Look for RZA, Dr. Dre, Marley Marl, Travis Barker and a bunch of regulars like Wu Tang and Busta Rhymes.

DJ KHALED SELLING HIS HOUSE?

I don’t know why anybody would care about this. But, I heard Khaled, the Don DJ of Miami, is selling his home. I don’t know what that means, but I guess he is getting a bigger spot. I also heard that Dj Khaled, Rick Ross, and T-Pain were recently at the airport in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I’m not sure this is true. I mean, T-Pain was on Saturday Night Live with Luda…not sure.

Wyclef is one good dude. I’m sad to say, that he has lost one of his homes to foreclosure. Click here to read that story. Recession!!!!! Arrrrgh!

HIS MOMMA CALLS HIM MICHAEL, YOU CALL HIM MIKAEEL

Michael Jackson went and did like Shyne. He has reportedly gone and changed his name and his religion. You may now call him Mikaeel, according to rumors. Mikaeel reportedly became a Muslim at a friend’s house in Los Angeles, says the Daily Mail. He was a Jehovah’s Witness, but has changed up his religious swag, I guess. I don’t think that is going to absolve him of those million dollar debts.

JILL SCOTT PREGNANT?

I am not sure anybody would care either way…but I heard that Jill Scott is preggers. And when I say nobody cares, I mean that with respect. There is no scandal and nobody is going to be outside her crib like Tom and Katie. She is engaged. Anyway, if she is preggers, I wish her well. She’s a class act. I did hear that her fiancé already has three other kids, if that matters these days for grown ups

DAMN RAP MUSIC: CAUSING DIVORCES!

In a few, you will read about how Britney Spears blames the media and photogs for her wacky behavior, but, she places the blame on rap for the dissolution of her marriage. Well, it didn’t help that her spouse wasn’t very talented as a rapper and continued to try to spit raps like he was Rakim. She says when she was trying to be romantic. She said, “He started to do an album for himself and he started to do things for himself, and I just never saw him anymore.” At least she didn’t marry a real rapper, then she really would have never seen him.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

Nobody did anything? A Miami teenager straight up killed himself on the internet in a live stream and nobody did a thing. The boy, 19 years old, took a bunch of pills as people watched or egged him on. The kid was a college student that suffered from bi-polar disorder and eventually took all his pills and some sleeping pills at one time. The deadly cocktail ended his life. He appeared to go to sleep on his bed. Eventually, people realized it wasn’t a joke and contacted the website. The only thing is, that took about 12 hours. When police did arrive, the boy was still streaming live from the house…dead. Some didn’t take him seriously, because he had threatened suicide in the past and didn’t do it. Needless to say, the family is furious and looking for answers. This man be an instance where there are going have a hard time getting closure.Check this out for a “sign.” A man shoots a woman for…you wont believe the madness that resulted.

EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY

I’m sure this man has achieved a lot…and kicked a lot of butt. But…this day…he is the Epic Fail of the Day.

Britney Spears says the paparazzi took away her “cool” (MTV):

Amy Winehouse and spouse are headed for splitsville.

Peep a preview of the “Angie Martinez Show,” which features Jay-Z! Click here for it!

I heard the homey Terrance J was doing some serious good will at a church in Brooklyn. I like that dude. He was helping kids on Saturday, I believe.

A female rapper that claimed Shaq was stalking her has dropped her case.

Speaking of dropped cases, Michael Jackson reached a settlement on the $7 million that he supposedly owed a with a Bahraini sheik. I guess it wasn’t a loan, eh?Click here to see Barack Obama sing, T.I.’s “Whatever You Want.” LMAO!

JIMMY KIMMEL IS SMART

He consulted Black people on how to clown Barack Obama without making the whole race mad.

SHELZ REPORTS AND GOSH DARN IT, PEOPLE LIKE HER!

50 Cent Takes Over Shade 45

He was among a whole bunch of folks last night hosting the 6p-8p slot. Don’t ask me who is normally there. I have no idea. But anyway, 50 turned it into a club punch fest for a second, taking random shots at other rappers. Here is a little of what was said.

50 believes if Kanye sells more than 500,000 units then it no longer matters what you write or produce musically. It will just prove that your positioning in the industry is the only key to sales. He also mocked Kanye, changing the Love Lockdown lyrics to, “I’m in love with him. He’s in love with me.”

The crew in the studio also talked about how things have changed in rap saying people can kiss dudes and rock tongue rings and it’s okay. To which 50 responded that you can even sit on the stand and it’s okay. Hmmm. I wonder who they were talking about.

He also went in on Rocsi from 106 & Park, called her a b#### and suggested some inappropriate relations between her and Whoo Kid, but Whoo Kid was there and didn’t confirm that ish.

FCC is Still Hounding Janet Jackson

The FCC is trying to take Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction all the way to the Supreme Court. They have filed an appeal to whatever court that was that threw the case out saying the grounds of the dismissal were erroneous. I guess they still want her to pay that fine for giving one of the gals some air. I wonder how much Timberlake will have to pay.

Semtex Talks to Kanye

Kanye told this BBC guy that the melodies on his latest album have been floating around in his head for a minute and he refused to let fear of rejection keep him from expressing himself. Then he said he doesn’t listen to Hip Hop in his apartment anymore because his apartment is way too nice to host that type of music. He has to go somewhere much less nice to listen to Hip Hop. I’m curious though. Didn’t Hip Hop buy that apartment? If it makes you feel better, he did admit that he can’t sing.

Real Housewife Gets Naked?

The white chocolate girl from Real Housewives of Atlanta claims she is going to be on the cover of Playboy coming soon. What month? I don’t know.

Jacko and the Sheik Settle

More info on illseed’s quickie…Michael Jackson seems to have settled this lawsuit filed against him by the Sheik of Bahrain prior to his testimony. I think he was scheduled to testify today, but the two sides came to an agreement. I’m assuming this means the 4 million dollars he was given wasn’t a gift after all.

If you didn’t know, this Sheik was suing Mike because he allegedly paid him 4 million dollars to make an album, write a book and create some sort of stage show. Mike took the money but didn’t do the work in return. Mike said the money was given to him out of the kindness of the Sheik’s heart.

NOW FOR MR. NORE.

I am not sure if you know, but I have developed a bit of a “situation” with my homey Nore. This reminds me of the lunchroom discussions we’d have over who was the best rapper. Here is some background history on this Nore/illseed agreeing to disagree.

Exhibit A:

Nore’s Top 5 Dead or Alive: Click here to read his Top 5 rappers of All TIME.

Exhibit B:

Nore’s response to the AHH comments on his Top 5: Click here to see his response.

Now, as you can see (by the comments and Nore’s remarks) most people took exception to Nore calling Lil Wayne as his No. 1 Greatest of All Time and I homed in on the fact that he included Grand Daddy I.U. over the likes of predecessor Big Daddy Kane. Certainly, Nore is entitled to his opinion, but he begins to test the idea that an opinion can be wrong.

FIRST: I told Nore that Big Daddy Kane came first and then Grand Daddy I.U. came out. Both were initially on Cold Chillin’ Records. Nore somehow thinks G.D.I.U. came out in ’85 and Kane came out in ’89. Nore, you the man, but a historian you aren’t.

1) Big Daddy Kane came out in the year 1988, but the single for “Raw” came hit stores in 1987. His second came out in 1989 and his third tape was released in the year 1990.

2) In the year 1990, Grand Daddy I.U. debuted on the commercial market with Smooth Assassin. By then Kane was ghostwriting for Biz Markie and had three albums out. SMH. Now I do want people to read up on Grand Daddy I.U., because he is an ill lyricist that is still doing his thing. He also did some writing for Biz Markie as well has production in the 90s for a number of groups. Check out his myspace and give him some props.

3) Because I am a big fan of Nore as an artist as well as CNN (who have a new CD coming out), I won’t ether him on thinking Lil Wayne is the NUMBER ONE RAPPER Dead or Alive. He can have that opinion, because its just an opinion…however…I can’t save him from the opinions of his opinions!

NORE’S DISS OF MY GIRL KELLY!

This reminds me of Biggie. Nore couldn’t get me so he had to get the closest one to me…my pretend girlfriend. Nore disses me bad here…and dissed Kelly Rowland too. I happen to think Kelly is one of the most desirable women on earth. I say desirable, because that’s more than just looks. BUT, if you want to talk looks, Nore…LOOK!

ILL PICS

The AllHipHop guys, Grouchy and Jigsaw, were somewhere and saw Bobby Brown. Ho Hum. Where is Whitney?! Superhead?! Crack?! Anything!

Chris Brown, Kanye Win Big At American Music Awards

This year’s American Music Awards proved to be anything but a disappointment for Kanye West.

The rapper/producer was among the winners as he took home awards for favorite rap/hip-hop album for Graduation and favorite rap/Hip-Hop male on Sunday (November 23).

“I’d like to thank everyone who accepted me trying to break new boundaries in music,” said West, who encouraged his fellow entertainers to elevate their talents to create music that rivals the classic material of the 1960’s. “It’s our responsibility as musicians to keep pushing each other. … We will be the new Beatles, the new (Jimi) Hendrix. I want to be Elvis.”

As he returned to the stage to accept his second award, West decided to give the honor to a more deserving nominee.

“I really appreciate these two awards. I want to give this award to Wayne for this year,” the rapper said. “If it was last year, it would have been my award. This year, it’s Wayne’s award. We’ll see what happens next year.”

Despite West’s double recognition, the night’s big winner was R&B crooner Chris Brown, who collected AMAs for artist of the year, favorite pop/rock male artist and favorite soul/R&B artist.

Other multiple winners included Alicia Keys, who received favorite pop/rock and favorite soul/R&B album honors for her latest release As I Am and Rihanna who garnered the awards for favorite pop/rock and favorite soul/R&B female artist.

“I’m very, very shocked and proud to be here,” said Keys, who dedicated her second award to all the superwomen and her first award “to all the incredible artists who are here tonight and who show their artistry.”

In addition to West and Rihanna, the AMAs included performances from show opener Christina Aguilera, Pink, New Kids on the Block, Beyonce, Leona Lewis, Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, Sara McLaughlin, the Pussycat Dolls, Ne-Yo, Annie Lennox and Mariah Carey.

Keys also took the stage to close the show as she brought out Queen Latifah and opera singer Kathleen Battle for “Superwoman.”

The following is the list of winner’s for this year’s American Music Awards: Artist of the Year: Chris Brown Pop-Rock: Male artist: Chris Brown Female artist: Rihanna Band, duo or group: Daughtry Album: As I Am, Alicia Keys

Wyclef Jean Mansion Foreclosed and Up for Sale

Former Fugees member Wyclef Jean is at the center of a new situation concerning his recently foreclosed Miami Beach mansion.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Jean took out a $2 million mortgage from Home Equity Mortgage Corp. in 2004 to purchase the estate through a corporation he owns with several friends.

Although the rapper/producer set out to renovate the canal-front property, the foreclosed home, which was appraised at $1.4 million, was left unfinished for more than two years as a series of construction liens were filed.

In addition, the property garnered $6,200 in fines from the city of Miami Beach once the $900,000 construction project halted after Jean and his partners couldn’t come up with the $177,913 in construction costs needed to finish the effort.

Court documents note that a lien was put on the property this year by the project’s architects, who have tried to collect $75,000 owed to them since 2004.

In all, Jean’s corporation now owes the bank $2.4 million.

As a result of the foreclosure, Miami-Dade county will sell the mansion in downtown Miami on December 12.

Court records also show that Jean has not paid employees who worked on the home. The entertainer has yet to comment on the situation.
