“Emergencies make headlines, but the recovery continues long after the news cameras leave,” said Rihanna in a statement. “Having been a fan and supporter of UNICEF’s work over the years, I am honored to join them in helping children who have been impacted by Typhoon Haiyan. More than five million kids in the Philippines need our help. UNICEF is there for them today, and for the long road ahead, and so am I.”

Besides being a public advocate for the effort Rihanna also donated $100,000 to UNICEF. The “We Found Love” singer is joined by fellow celebrities under the Roc Nation umbrella free agent baseball player Robinson Cano and Tulsa Shock star Skylar Diggins. Actress/singer Vanessa Hudgens of High School Musical is participating in the campaign as well.

“There for the Philippines” is both a fundraising and social awareness campaign. UNICEF is asking concerned people to donate funds, change their Facebook profile picture, and tweet messages of support.
