Shreveport, Louisiana native Dee Ross is proving that you don’t have to come from a privileged background to make it in the music industry. The young artist, who began winning local rapping contests for cash at a young age, is now based in Houston and making waves with his unique blend of storytelling and raw emotion.
Growing up in the poverty-stricken and crime-ridden Allendale area, Ross found inspiration in the struggles he faced on a daily basis. He began penning poetry about his experiences, which ultimately led to a passion for music. Despite the distractions of his teenage years, including friends going to jail and even being murdered, Ross never let go of his dream.
Starting off recording songs in a friend’s closet in Shreveport, Ross never stepped foot in a professional studio until he moved to Houston. It was there that he caught the attention of major record labels like “Rap-A-Lot” and began to make a name for himself in the industry.
In 2015, Ross released his first single, “City on My Back,” which gained the city’s attention and motivated him to keep pushing forward. He followed that up with the release of his debut EP, “ForeverReal,” in 2019, and its sequel, “ForeverReal 2,” later that year. 2020 saw the release of “Forever Dangerous,” which included the hit track “I Wonder Why,” which received radio play and reached the top of the charts.
With over 250k streams on Spotify, Ross is quickly becoming a household name. He’s even got his own fashion brand, 4everReal.com, where fans can purchase his gear. When asked about who he’d like to collaborate with in the industry, Ross stated that he’d love to work with Yo Gotti or Lil Boosie, as he feels like his music would fit right in with their style. In addition to his regular performances, he has also been embarking on tours in various cities such as Las Vegas, Atlanta, and several others.
With his laid-back attitude and undeniable talent, Dee Ross is proving that you don’t have to come from a fancy neighborhood to make it big in the music industry. He’s rapping his way out of the hood and into the charts, one verse at a time.
