On Wednesday [Mar.
28] evening, the 63rd annual Radio-Television Correspondent’s Association dinner
was held at the Washington Hilton Hotel. During
the event comedians Brad Sherwood and Colin Mochrie from the television show Whose
Line Is It Anyway
brought Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove on stagefor what was to become an awkward, impromptu rap performance. Before
their performance with Rove, Sherwood and Mochrie questioned the politician on
his hobbies, only to find out that when not working, Rove liked to sit home with
a non-alcoholic drink, "tear the tops off of small animals," collect
stamps, and hunt quail. The
comedians then asked President George Bush if he had any suggestions for Rove’s
rap name. President
Bush simply replied, "He’s fired." As
a result of President Bush and Rove’s unwillingness to choose a stage name for
Rove, the comedians generically came up with MC Rove. With
MC Rove providing the ad-libs and guests from the audience as back-up dancers,
the comedians went on to entertain the crowd of politicians and journalists with
their zany rap throwing out lines like, He’s so white from his head to his feet
and He’s a dancing resident/He’s sidekick to the president. And
while doing "The Karl Rove Dance," Rove would occasionally throw in
an, "I’m MC Rove," when prompted by the comedians. Rove
wasn’t the only politician making a fool of himself that night. President Bush
made fun of his approval rating.A
year ago, my approval rating was in the 30s, my nominee for the Supreme Court
had just withdrawn, and my Vice President had shot someone," President Bush
joked. "Those were the good old days. Sorry the Vice President couldn’t be
here. He’s had a rough few weeks. To be honest, his feelings are kind of hurt.
He said he was going on vacation to Afghanistan, where people like him."
