Charlie Wilson, famed lead singer fo R&B group The Gap Band filed a lawsuit against Capitol Records, EMI Music and Heineken Inc. for using portions of rapper Snoop Dogg’s#### single “Beautiful” in a commercial.
The lawsuit, which was filed yesterday (June 8) in federal court in Manhattan, claims that portions of the song were used in a commercial for Heineken Premium Light Beer, Reuters reports.
Wilson claims the song, which features a vocal performance by Pharrell Williams, was licensed by Capitol Records for the commercial without permission.
Wilson also claims that EMI owes him hundreds of thousands of dollars for “Beautiful” and for “You Got What I Want,” which features Snoop, Ludacris and Goldie Loc.
“Beautiful” hit #1 in New Zealand and Germany. Both songs are taken from Snoop Dogg’s 2002 album Paid Tha Cost to Be Da Boss.
