(AllHipHopNews) Common will be starring in a new show produced by legendary producer RZA entitled “Black Samurai.”
The show is currently still in development with hopes of landing a spot on a major network. After a network spot is locked in, the search of a writer and director is slated to begin.
According to reports from Variety, the TV series will be based on a series of books penned by author Marc Olden in 1974. The blaxploitation movie Black Samurai released in 1977 also referred to theses series of texts for inspiration.
The plot for the series is to be focused around the story of Robert Sand (Common) who is rescued by a Japanese samurai master and trained for seven years.
Sand endures intense racism in the military and even witnesses the murder of his teacher, and fellow fighters by terrorists, setting him on a bloody path of revenge.
Andre Gaines, Wu Films’ Mitchell Diggs and Diane Crafford are also set to executive produce the new show along with RZA.
Common is set to appear in the films “Suicide Squad” and “John Wick 2,” which are due for release August 5, 2016 and February 16, 2017 respectively.
