Revered music/mixtape pioneer Justo Faison will be remembered in a new documentary by those who benefited from his work.

DJ’s Kid Capri, Whoo Kid, DJ Kay Slay and DJ Mars are among the DJs lending their support for the project, which began filming in the fall of 2006.

The project is a joint venture between companies Thermal Soundwaves and Music is My Business.

Noted for creating the annual Mixtape Awards, Faison was a well-known supporter of DJs and the DJing art form.

The 15-year promotions and marketing veteran died in a tragic car accident in Virginia in May 2005.

“Justo had a significant influence on the history of the DJ movement as well as on the business community,” said Thermal Soundwaves founder C. Truth. “He revolutionized the mixtape industry, making it commercially viable.”

Director Bill Duke will narrate the film, which has received additional support from Mike 5000 Watts, DJ Mecca, Tony Touch, Bobbito Garcia and DJ Premier.

The documentary will include testimonies, memoirs, and acknowledgements to Faison by those who benefited from opportunities he created.

Shooting will continue this week as filmmakers travel to Mixtapekings.com headquarters in New York to interview various mixtape DJ’s about their relationship with Faison.
