(AllHipHop News) There has not been a large number of rap albums to experience huge sales in 2016 so far. Drake’s Views is the only Hip Hop project to cross the one million mark.
The OVO leader’s fourth studio album has pushed 1,313,000 copies in the first six months of 2016, the second highest for any album among all genres behind Adele’s 25 (1,403,000).
As far as rap releases, projects by Kevin Gates, Kendrick Lamar, and Future are the next three highest selling through the mid-year. Gates’s Islah is edging closer to half a million sales with a total of 307,000 purchased copies.
Kendrick Lamar’s surprise 8-track EP Untitled Unmastered has pushed 245,000 copies. Evol by Future now sits at 163,000 copies sold.
When looking at overall equivalent album units (sales plus streaming), G-Eazy jumps near the top. His When It’s Dark Out collected 605,000 units.
Drake again leads that tally as well. Views has 2,609,000 equivalent album units. Islah (690,000 units) and Evol (487,000 units) make the top 4 as well.
