(AllHipHop News) Lebron James was honored as Sports Illustrated’s 2016 Sportsperson of the Year last night (December 12) at the Barclay Center in New York.
Rappers like DJ Khaled, Jay Z Nas and Kendrick Lamar were part of the star-studded celebration for the NBA legend.
Actor/comedian J.B. Smoove pulled hosting duties, while Kendrick Lamar gave a surprise performance and toasted Lebron James.
DJ Khaled offered up a heartfelt video tribute and special presentation for junior Olympian sisters, Tai, Rainn and Brooke Sheppard, who were named SI Kids SportsKids of the Year.
“Lebron James has made all of those around him better on and off the court,” Jay Z said. “We acknowledge and recognize all he has done for the game. But tonight we say thank you.
“Not just for your commitment to basketball, but for all you’ve done for the community,” Hov continued. “Thank you for how you’ve enriched the lives of all those around you. We messed around and got a triple double in real life.”
Other icons honored during the evening included Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jim Brown and Bill Russell who received the SI Muhammad Ali Legacy Award.
Michael Phelps, who has earned 23 gold medals in the Olympics, was named the “Greatest Olympian of All-Time.”
