MLK weekend will be the backdrop for two events in New York City to raise funds for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Both events take place this Sunday January 18.
Israel began a Gaza military campaign 18 days ago in response to repeating rocket attacks from Palestinian Hamas forces.
The two groups had previously maintained a tenuous cease-fire.
To date, close to 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and 28,000 displaced from Israeli bombings.
Thirteen Israelis have died in the fighting from Hamas rocket fire and the ground war.
Israel and Hamas have both refused international pleas for diplomacy.
The first event, “Hands Off Gaza,” will feature performances from Immortal Technique, M1 of Dead Prez, DJ Johnny Juice (Public Enemy), Hasan Salaam, Aalikes, and many more.
The event will be held from 5-7PM at Alwan for the Arts, located on 16 Beaver St. (4th Floor) in Manhattan.
Organizers request a $20 donation, but no one will be turned away.
At 7:30PM, attendees will march from the venue to the site of the next event, located at Sugarland on 221 N. 9th St. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Entitled “I (Heart) Gaza,” the second show promises to be a “night of Hip-Hop, dancing, and resistance.”
Confirmed performers include DJ Unconquer’d, Rebel Diaz, DJ K-Salaam, Remi Kanazi.
Koba, Donny Goines, and others.
In addition, Palestinian artists Shadia Mansour and DAM will supply video messages for attendees.
