(AllHipHop News) Before Lin-Manuel Miranda took over the world with Hamilton, the playwright created the Tony-winning musical In the Heights.
The play is being adapted into a feature film with Hip Hop mogul Jay Z signed on as a co-producer, according to reports.
Harvey Weinstein’s production company is attached to the project as well.
It was announced last year that Jay inked a deal with The Weinstein Company.
“Having known Jay on a personal level for many years we are thrilled by the opportunity to expand our relationship. Jay’s ability to influence entertainment and pop culture has gone well beyond music for many years,” stated Weinstein in October.
Jay Z’s filmography as a producer already includes The Great Gatsby, Annie, Top Five, and The Kalief Browder Story.
In the Heights opened on Broadway in 2008 after Miranda began writing early drafts while still at Wesleyan University.
The story follows characters in a Dominican-American neighborhood in New York City.
Miranda starred as Usnavi, the owner of a bodega in Washington Heights.
