K. DOT: WE NEED TO GET BACK TO THE ESSENCE OF BEING TRUE EMCEES

(AllHipHop News) Kendrick Lamar has been making the media rounds to promote his new album To Pimp A Butterfly. The Compton emcee’s promo run included a stop by Dish Nation.

While speaking with the hosts of The Ricky Smiley Morning Show, Kendrick was asked to name his All-Star team of rappers. The “Mortal Man” rhymer was excluded from naming anyone from his TDE camp besides himself.

“Okay, I’m running point. [J.] Cole, Drake,” said Lamar. “I got to throw them off. I got to say Mac Miller, and Action Bronson at center.”

K. Dot was also asked if a line about ghostwriting on his new single “King Kunta” was directed at Kanye West. The speculation stems from the revelation West used 21 different writers to create his song “All Day.”

“No, I actually played that song for Kanye when I went to his house,” explained Kendrick. “From my point of view, we need to get back to the essence of being true emcees and get in that studio, lock it in, and writing them raps.”
