LandSpeed
Records
has announced plans tore-release classic material from the Cold Chillin’ Records
catalog. Cold Chillin’ was one of the first and most influential
powerhouse rap labels. Never before had a record company managed
to put such diverse and charismatic talents as Master Ace, Big
Daddy Kane, Roxanne Shante, Kool G Rap, Marley Marl, Biz Markie
and Craig G together under one label. Poised at the intersection
between “old school” and “new school,” Cold
Chillin’ produced some of the most memorable and important
hip hop music to ever be released.
Says Bob Perry, President
of LandSpeed, “Everyone here at LandSpeed is very excited
about the opportunities that working with this classic hip hop
catalog presents.” LandSpeed’s first releases on October
17 will be “Best of” albums by legendary artists Biz
Markie and Kool G Rap. The Biz Markie album will feature classic
joints like “Make The Music With your Mouth Biz,” “Just
a Friend,” and “Vapors.” Look for “Roads to
Riches,” “Streets of New York” and “It’s
A Demo” to appear on the Kool G Rap album.
Later in the year,
LandSpeed Records plans to release a double CD set of Cold Chillin’
classics and will also begin releasing other “Best of”
albums by Cold Chillin’ artists. Landspeed also handles distribution
for Super Vinyl/Oblique Recordings, Freddie Foxx AKA Bumpy Knuckles,
Necro and The High and Mighty, and other indie labels.
