Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” Becomes Fastest Song In History To Reach Diamond Status

The Best New Artist contender joins a very exclusive club for Hip Hop acts.

(AllHipHop News) Lil Nas X had already cemented his name in music history books when “Old Town Road” broke the record for most weeks spent at #1 on the Hot 100 chart. The Atlanta-bred neophyte just added another major accomplishment to his résumé.

The Recording Industry Association of America certified “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus as 10x-Platinum. That gives Lil Nas X the first RIAA Diamond Award for a single released in 2019.

“Old Town Road” also holds the distinction of being the fastest song in history to reach Diamond status. The Country-Rap über-smash lives on Lil Nas X’s 7 EP which is currently certified Platinum. LNX also collected a Platinum plaque for the Top 10 hit “Panini.”

Last month, Drake’s “God’s Plan” was certified 11x-Platinum, making the OVO Sound founder the fourth rapper as a lead artist cross the 10 million-unit threshold for a song. Lil Nas X is now just the fifth rap act as a lead to have a Diamond-certified single after Drake, Eminem, Wiz Khalifa, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Ludacris, Nelly, T.I., Juicy J, Kendrick Lamar, and Quavo are featured on songs that went Diamond.
