Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” Earns A Country Music Association Awards Nomination

The 20-year-old performer is in the same category as Country legends like Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks, and Blake Shelton.

(AllHipHop News) Billboard may have argued Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road”did not have enough elements of modern Country music to be eligible for its Hot Country Songs chart. However, the Country Music Association Awards nominated the remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus.

“Old Town Road” is competing for Music Event Of The Year against “All My Favorite People” by Maren Morris featuring Brothers Osborne, “Brand New Man” by Brooks & Dunn with Luke Combs, “Dive Bar” by Garth Brooks & Blake Shelton, and “What Happens In A Small Town” by Brantley Gilbert & Lindsay Ell.

“Thank you guys for this nomination!!” tweeted Lil Nas on Wednesday. The CMAs’ embrace of the Atlanta rhymer’s breakout smash comes months after the track peaked at #19 on the Hot Country Songs chart before being removed.

“Old Town Road” was able to make it onto Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart in April. It also spent a record-breaking 19 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 chart. Additionally, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ single led the Streaming Songs, Digital Song Sales, Hot Rap Songs, and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts at one point.
