Billboard reports Meek knocked off Pop superstar Taylor Swift from the pinnacle of the Artist 100. The “All Eyes On You” performer skyrocketed from 72 to 1 on the chart, making him only the third rapper to reached number one after Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
The Artist 100 takes data from album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming, and social media fan interaction to rank national popularity among music acts. The rest of the top five includes Swift (2), The Weeknd (3), Maroon 5 (4), and Ed Sheeran (5).
Meek’s sophomore studio LP selling 215,000 copies played a big role in his rise on the Artist 100. 78% of his points on the chart were based on albums sales. His recent Twitter spat with Joe Budden garnered a lot of attention online and likely helped Meek score points in the “social media interaction” portion of the calculations.
