U.S. Marshals raided the home of comedian Katt Williams on Tuesday (May 20) and arrested a man who was wanted in a drug related shooting.
The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Williams’ distant cousin Robert McGhee, 31, after spotting his car in front of the comedian’s mansion in suburban Los Angeles.
Ohio police accuse McGhee of shooting a man in the chest on April 24 in Dayton, Ohio, during a botched drug deal.
McGhee fled Ohio early last week with his girlfriend, prompting a nationwide manhunt for the suspect, who Marshals say arrived at Williams’ house on Sunday or Monday.
McGhee and his girlfriend were tracked through multiple states, ultimately ending up in Los Angeles, California.
“This arrest highlights why it is critical for federal, state, and local law enforcement to team together to investigate and locate such dangerous fugitives,” U.S. Marshal James Wahlrab stated. “Criminals do not recognize jurisdictional boundaries that often limit our partnering agencies. Through tremendous collaboration and the efforts of our task force officers, we were able to utilize all of the necessary resources across the nation to apprehend this suspect.”
McGhee was charged with felonious assault (causing serious harm), felonious assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
Police are trying to determine if Williams was aware that McGhee was wanted for the shooting and if he knowingly harbored a fugitive or if he was even home at the time of the arrest.
The controversial comedian is currently headlining his “Its Pimpin’ Pimpin'” nationwide comedy tour.
