(AllHipHop News) This coming weekend, the Gods and The Earths will celebrate with festivities that celebrate The Five Percent Nation with rhyme legends Rakim, Brand Nubian, Big Daddy Kane, Papoose, Erykah Badu and others.
Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Brand Nubian, and more will bless the mic at NYC’s Apollo Theater on Saturday Oct. 4 for the “God & Hip Hop Concert” with Erykah Badu serving as the evenings host.
Born King, the weekend’s promoter, said that the event is the perfect way to celebrate 50 years of the Five Percent Nation.
“The unparalleled link between the Gods and Hip Hop is both historic and legendary. Through Hip-Hop music, our knowledge traveled from the inner cities to all across the country and eventually all over the world,” said Born King to AllHipHop exclusively.
Born King, who heads up The Builders Build Group, also offered some stern words on the changing landscape of Hip-Hop.
“It is clear to the Nation of Gods and Earths – commonly known as the Five Percent [Nation] – that Hip-Hop has lost its way. It’s not just ‘headed for Self Destruction’, it now promotes it – and that’s got to stop. Through this event the Gods are bringing the word life to counter the death now being promoted in Hip-Hop music.”
The concert is a part of a larger event known as “The God & Hip Hop Weekend,” which spans over the course of October 3-5.
The God & Hip Hop Weekend will also offer panel discussions, a town hall meeting, new artist showcase, a family day, and a “Power 50” dinner.
