(AllHipHop News) Several rap stars had a very commercially successful year in 2016.
The Recording Industry Association of America honored some of those performers with special #RIAATopCertified recognition.
Year-end highlights for the organization’s Platinum/Gold awards included honoring Drake, DJ Khaled, Desiigner, and Kevin Gates.
Drake received the Top Album Award for Views going 4x platinum in 2016.
The OVO head’s “One Dance” was also among the seven songs to collect a 4x Multi-Platinum Song Award.
Desiigner was included in that group as well with the #1 single “Panda” earning quadruple platinum status.
DJ Khaled was the only act to earn three R&B/Hip Hop Song Awards.
The We The Best founder’s “I Got The Keys” and “For Free” secured Platinum certifications, while “Do You Mind” scored a Gold plaque.
Islah by Kevin Gates was recognized by the RIAA for being the only debut album to reach platinum status last year.
In addition, Rihanna was one of only two acts – along with The Chainsmokers – to collect two 4x Multi-Platinum Song Awards (“Work” and “Needed Me”).
