Casey was still in high school when he found out Jay was interested in meeting with him. At that point, the teenager had already dropped solo mixtapes and began building a buzz as a member of the Odd Future collective.
“I left school, missed like two days, came to New York. I was out here for like one day. I was at the hotel with [Jay]. he was working on Watch The Throne,” explained Casey. “I think he was hearing through the grapevine, ‘Who’s this new young cat?’… I played him some records and he was just vibing with the music. I remember he heard one of my verses, and he was just appreciating the verse. I was thinking, ‘This is crazy.'”
The 21-year-old rhymer said Jay initially asked him what was his story. Fighting through nerves, Casey told the Brooklyn mogul how he got involved with music at the age of 12 and his history of playing basketball.
Veggies is working on his debut major label studio album. His catalogue already features the Customized Greatly mixtape series and the indie LP Sleeping In Class: Deluxe Edition.
