(AllHipHop News) Hip Hop artists have longed used soundbites from news broadcasts on their projects. One of the latest examples of sampling a newscast happened with Future’s new High Off Life studio LP.
“The police need your help in tracking down a suspect in a bank robbery this morning on the city’s north side. According to police, the suspect walked into the bank about nine this morning, went straight to one of the tellers, handed over a note that said, ‘Put money in bag,'” says a voice during the interlude on the High Of Life track “Ridin Strikers.”
That sampled voice on “Ridin Strikers” belongs to KSAT 12 anchor Steve Spriester. The San Antonio resident was actually reporting about a local bank robbery that took place in July 2014.
Evidently, Spriester had no idea Future was going to insert that particular excerpt into the song. He apparently discovered the news of his rap album debut through mentions about the record on Twitter.
“I think it’s kind of funny that he picked one of my clips, but it’s cool. My kids are thrilled. They’re calling me ‘Mr. Put Money in Bag,'” said Spriester. “I hope to work with Snoop [Dogg] next.”
