Although NWA Biopic Straight Outta Compton wasn’t accepted by the Oscars, it received a nice constellation last night. According to XXL, the critically acclaimed film earned an NAACP Image award for “Oustanding Film.” O’Shea Jackson Jr., son of Ice Cube and the actor portraying the legendary rapper in SOC, also won an Image Award for “Best Supporting Actor.”

Along with Straight Outta Compton, the NAACP Image Awards also recognized other films that weren’t nominated for an Oscar. This includes the Netflix exclusive Beasts Of No Nation as well as Rocky spinoff Creed.
