The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Sugarhill Gang’s pioneering single, “Rapper’s Delight.”
The single, which is recognized as the first hit Hip-Hop single to attain cross-over success, will be celebrated during “The Past, Present and Future of Hip Hop Tribute Concert” which will take place in January 2010 in Cleveland, Ohio.
The weekend will feature an invite-only cocktail party with industry movers and shakers, a tribute to Mr. Magic and the finale concert featuring The Sugarhill Gang.
The track, which was listed as #2 on VH1’s “Greatest Hip-Hop Songs” list, is also incorporated into the track “Gangsta’s Delight” on 50 Cent’s upcoming CD Before I Self Destruct.
“Rapper’s Delight” has sold over 8 million copies worldwide since its release in 1979.
