Hip-Hop producer Swizz Beatz is among five acclaimed musicians and directors that has teamed up with clothing retail giant The Gap, to compose and produce one of five original songs for a new marketing campaign.
Swizz Beatz, along with indie rock group The Blake, electronic artists Dntel, singer-songwriter Marie Digby and Danish post-punk duo The Rayeonettes, produced five original songs about different colors.
The award-winning producer interpreted the color green on the song “Candy Paint,” about a drop car driving through the streets of Miami.
The Blakes interpreted blue (“Magic”), Dntel interpreted red “Turning Red”), Marie Digby interpreted yellow (“Paint Me In Your Sunshine”) and The Rayeonettes interpreted black and white (“Black/White”).
“Music has always been a significant part of Gap’s history, so we’re always thinking of new ways to connect with people through music,” said Dennis Leggett, creative director for Gap brand. “With much of today’s music being consumed digitally and shared online, we wanted to create an online experience where people could discover new, original songs and share them with fellow music lovers.”
In addition to the award-winning musicians The Gap has assembled for the campaign, the company partnered with five notable directors to create music videos to accompany each song.
Tom Gatsoulis, who has worked with artists like LL Cool J and his directed campaigns for ESPN and Playstation directed Swizz Beatz’ “Candy Paint.”
Other directors include Russ Lamoureux, duo Mary F#### and James Frost, Ryan Ebner and Chris Do.
