(AllHipHop News) Yesterday, some social media users celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day posted Instagram captions that read, “Only Christopher we acknowledge is Wallace.” Today, Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace was announced as a potential member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020.
Biggie was nominated for the prestigious honor in his first year of eligibility. If he earns enough votes, the late Brooklyn emcee’s name will live forever in the Cleveland museum next to other Hip Hop acts Run-D.M.C., Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, N.W.A., and Tupac Shakur.
The Notorious B.I.G. is widely considered one of the greatest rappers of all time. His catalog includes the classic albums Ready to Die and Life After Death. Plus, Wallace is cited as a heavy influence on Hip Hop stars such as Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jay-Z, Lil Kim, 50 Cent, The Game, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and J. Cole.
Whitney Houston, Pat Benatar, Dave Matthews Band, The Doobie Brothers, Motörhead, Soundgarden, T. Rex, and Thin Lizzy are also first-time RRHOF nominees. Additionally, Depeche Mode (3), Judas Priest (2), Kraftwerk (6), MC5 (5), Nine Inch Nails (3), Rufus featuring Chaka Khan (4) and Todd Rundgren (2) have another chance to make it into the Rock Hall next year.
