(AllHipHop News) The backlash to Lifetime’s Aaliyah: Princess of R&B biopic continues. Most viewers were not happy about the way the singer was depicted in the film and were confused by the choice of actors selected to play the roles of Aaliyah’s associates R. Kelly, Timbaland, Missy Elliott, and Dame Dash.
Timbaland was actually one of the leading critics of the television movie. The superproducer continuously bashed the film on his Instagram page as it was airing Saturday night. Tim called into Hot 97’s Ebro In The Morning show to further address his issues with the Lifetime pic.

“I don’t know whose fault it is. I’m just going by the fans,” explained Timbo. “I felt like every [Instagram] picture said everything I probably would say in an interview. I thought about it like, ‘the more attention we give this thing, the better it is for them.'”
The creator of tracks for Aaliyah, Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, and many others added the first Aaliyah movie ever made being broadcast on Lifetime is what initially ignited his anger. Timbaland goes on to suggest that supporters of Aaliyah stop watching Lifetime, and he wanted to know the full details of the situation before he “goes in” on the movie’s producer Wendy Williams.
As the most famous face attached to the project and its biggest champion, Williams became the target of the fans’ wrath. The talk show host announced that she would speak on the criticism during her daytime program on Monday, but the longtime gossip peddler spent less than a minute on the topic.
“I see my Aaliyah movie broke the internet this weekend. Everybody’s got an opinion,” said Williams. “Well I must tell you, whether you loved or hated, you watched. It was the second highest rated movie on all of cable this year so far.”
