(AllHipHop News) BET had a lot going for its Prince tribute at this year’s BET Awards ceremony.
After the Billboard Awards’ Madonna-lead tribute to the legendary singer received mix results, BET released a video on social media to subliminally throw shade at Billboard and promised that their show truly honor Prince like it should have been done.
Fortunately, BET successfully said goodbye to The Purple One by recruiting a star-studded lineup including Erykah Badu, The Roots, D’Angelo, Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Bilal and several other artists.
Introduced by Dave Chappelle, whose comedic portrayal of Prince earned him a long-lasting friendship with the singer, the 6-minute tribute squeezed in so many songs from Prince’s catalogue to make it feel like one long album of his best songs.
Erykah Badu started the tribute by singing “The Ballad of Dorothy Parker,” followed by Bilal singing “Beautiful Ones.”
Stevie Wonder and Tori Kelly then sang “Take Me With You,” followed by stellar cover of “Purple Rain” by Jennifer Hudson and Roots guitarist Kirk Douglas.
