YG Explains Why Hip Hop Belongs To The West, How His Friends Almost Killed Him + MORE (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) From making a song named “My N*gga” a #1 hit to an impressive My Krazy Life debut album, YG has proven to live an unconventional life. During a recent interview, the West Coast MC explains how his and other MC’s success

YG’s My Krazy Life is littered with vivid tales of him breaking into people’s homes, witnessing murder and the types of stories that would inspire a Boyz In The Hood sequel. According to YG in his interview with Montreality, his wild past got so intertangled that he once died at the hands of his friends over a misunderstanding:

Homie start shooting, because something happened. Then they start popping back. So I hop in the homie’s ear, I’m right on the side of him, I’m like ‘shoot n*gga.’ I’m like ‘pop that n*gga.’ He start popping again. I’m like ‘keep shooting’, he keep shooting. Come to find out, we walk back in the house, the cars drive off, but the homies called us like ‘y’all n*ggas is shooting at us.’

YG also claims his debut album is a “classic album that nobody expected.” With his sudden rise to fame and other west coast MC’s such as Nipsey Hussle and Kendrick Lamar showing commercial and independent success, YG feels inclined to believe that the center of Hip Hop these days is on the left coast:

[Nipsey Hussle] put out a mixtape for free or you can buy it for $100. He made a motherfu*ken statement. N*ggas on the West Coast are making statements. I came out with a classic album that nobody expected. Kendrick [Lamar] came out, his sh*t went platinum. [DJ] Mustard is producer of the motherfu*cken..for years. You got n*gas like Dom Kennedy on his independent grind, getting this money. West Coast, we got it.

Dear  Mr.  Mcgruder,

Without a doubt, you are one of the most brilliant satirists that the black community has ever produced. The first season of your Boondocks series was pure genius and the creation of the militant, socially conscious  “Huey Freeman” character was  instrumental in raising the consciousness level of many African Americans, especially those with short attention spans or weak bladders who could never sit through a two hour -plus black history documentary like “Hidden Colors” but would watch a 30 minute cartoon. Your impact was especially felt during this season’s Boondocks, as your departure has left the show extremely lacking in the social relevance department. However, I am concerned about your latest venture on the Adult Swim Network, Black Jesus,  that preaches a ghettoized gospel to your former Boondocks congregation. I don’t find a Messiah that turns water into malt liquor entertaining. Of course there will be many people who will find Black Jesus hilarious, especially Adult Swim’s predominately white audience.  So the fact that many people will find humor in the comedy  is not up for discussion. After all, many white folks thought that lynchings were pretty funny… But I digress. I have read that some white Christian groups are protesting the show. Let’s not get it twisted. I couldn’t care less what the white Evangelical Right Wing thinks about the show. In my opinion, the only thing worst than a black Jesus that endorses drinkin’ and smokin’ is a white Jesus that endorses slavery. I am concerned about  black people, especially black children. The image of a “Black Messiah” has always been controversial in this country. Since the inception of the Black Theology movement over 150 years ago by people like Bishop Henry McNeal Turner, there have only been a handful of black images of Yeshua. ( Jesus was just his proverbial slave name) Unfortunately, since your new character is already  the most widespread image ever, when my grandchildren google “Black Jesus” years from now the image that will pops up will not be Yeshua feeding the multitudes but your lead character ,Gerald “Slink” Johnson,  puffin’ on a blunt. You have the opportunity to go down in history as one of our greatest  thinkers who, at a critical moment in time,  had the courage to speak truth to power. I would hate to see you go the route of so many of our biggest and brightest (cough..Kanye West) and become dumbed down to nothing more than a lawn jockey on the  front yard of Ted Turner’s plantation. I am clear that if you weren’t producing  the program, the powers that be would just find someone else to accept the blood money. So, the focus should not be on the “Judas” but those who paid him the 30 pieces of silver to sell the Messiah out.

I was watching the controversial, “Hunger Strike” episode of The Boondocks earlier today , where  “Huey Freeman” went to war against  Black Entertainment Television for plotting to destroy the black community via it’s questionable programming. Are you holding the Adult Swim/Comedy Network to a different standard?

There is an old cliche that asks, “what would Jesus do?” I ask you, sir, in the case of Black Jesus, “what would Huey do?”
Your Brother,

Aretha Franklin Denied A Seat By "Unprofessional and Nasty" Johnny Rockets Employee

(AllHipHop News) Aretha Franklin is a legendary soul singer for over 50 years, but that does not necessarily mean everyone knows that. Franklin released a statement recently deriding Johnny Rockets for an employees denial of seating Franklin due to a technicality.

Last Tuesday (July 22nd), Aretha Franklin performed a sold out show at Artpark Outdoor Amphitheater inSt, Lewiston, NY as apart of First Niagara Bank’s Tuesdays In The Park.  According to Franklin’s statement, the singer dined at Johnny Rockets in Niagara Falls, Ont.following the show and was informed by a female employee “you can’t sit here because you ordered for takeout.” Franklin did not take kindly to the treatment:

The woman was very rude, unprofessional and nasty – certainly not the appropriate face for Johnny Rockets. No one should be addressed this way, whether a celebrity or not. I told her she can eat and pay for my meal, and left.

A spokeswoman for Johnny Rockets issued an apology for the new and very young employee” in addition to instructing the employee on the takeout policy. While Franklin’s agent David Brokaw states the singer wishes the apology was delivered to Franklin personally, her statement does not rule out Franklin visiting the establishment in the future:

This experience in Niagara Falls will not stop my enjoyment of burgers and cherry Cokes, and talking to the classy and friendly people at Johnny Rockets.

Cristiano Ronaldo Says Reports He Changing Management Are False

(AllHipHop News) It appears all the talk about Cristiano Ronaldo signing with Lil Wayne’s forthcoming sports management firm may have been just that – talk. The soccer star took to Twitter to set the record straight that he was not changing his management.

TMZ was the first media site to report Ronaldo’s American management would be handled by Wayne’s company. The site is still reporting Weezy’s Young Money will be in business with the Real Madrid forward. A recent post on TMZ Sports reads:

Ronaldo tweeted that there will be NO changes to his current management team — which we’re told is partially true … no one is getting fired. He’s just adding Young Money to handle branding, marketing and other sports management issues in the United States.

Report: Kanye West Wants To Release Next Album As A Surprise

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West is currently working to complete his 7th studio album, and according to reports the G.O.O.D. Music boss is looking to follow in the footsteps of his “little sister” Beyoncé. The Sun cites a source claiming Ye will drop the follow-up to Yeezus without any promotion similar to how Bey released her 2013 self-titled LP.

“Kanye has been working hard on the album for a lot of this year, but he’s known for cutting deadlines so it’s better if he can just put it out at the last minute,” said the source.

There were reports earlier this year that Kanye was “annoyed” and “feeling defeated” that Beyoncé’s “visual album” was so successful, because he had the idea of releasing videos and songs all at once first.

“He wanted to do a visual album for his ‘Dark Twisted Fantasies’ album, but everyone around him convinced him it wouldn’t work,” an insider told Radar Online. “That’s why he ended up doing one long movie to go with it [the 35-minute short film, ‘Runaway’].”

The connection between Kanye’s upcoming album and the Knowles-Carter family extends beyond the possibility of an overnight release. West recently told GQ he has bars on the project that he felt could have been spit by Beyoncé’s husband Jay Z.

(AllHipHop News) Nearly one year ago Kendrick Lamar rocked the Hip Hop world when he challenged several of his peers during his verse off of Big Sean’s “Control.” K. Dot is now on the receiving end of actor/rapper Childish Gambino calling him out in public. CG also named Drake and Schoolboy Q during a freestyle diss in Sydney, Australia.

Gambino also took another swipe at Drake specifically. The former Community star referenced the fact that both he and Drake are known for singing, but according to Gambino his skills are better than Drizzy’s.

What Every Successful Person Needs To Know About Juicy J, And How You Too Can Stay Trippy For Life

juicy

Steven Paul Jobs was able to revolutionize the world by insisting on a seamless, symbiotic relationship between art and technology. In order to invest in the philosophy, one must “think differently,” a slogan used to this day to market not only Apple products but the entire Apple philosophy. Influenced by the German Bauhaus school of thought in which artistic excellence is achieved through simplicity and understated design, Jobs (and the actual engineers who made the products) ushered in a wave of stylish products that were simple-looking yet entrancing; the iMac, the ipod, the iphone, etc.

For all of his neurotic brilliance, it’s no secret that Jobs was a p####, which is why even in his death he was directly responsible for one of the most momentous occasions in my personal life this past year. I love my iphone, but sometimes Jobs’ tiny invention does not mesh well with my large fingers. Long story short, while listening to Tegan and Sara on Spotify mobile, a blunder involving the phalanges almost resulted in me accidentally “sharing” the track on Facebook. Luckily I was able to prevent the upload from happening, but nonetheless, the incident had the potential to become a mega public relations massacre for #kellmill. Undoubtedly questions would arise in the ensuing press conference, such as why is a straight black man listening to Teagan and Sara in the first place? Even worse, why does he feel compelled to go so far as to share it publicly? Completely Bill-Clintoned, I’d have no choice but to admit that yes, for an extended period of time “Closer” was a personal favorite of mine. Later inquiries would reveal even further reason for embarrassment, such as the fact that I sang the song approximately one billion times in collective shower visits, and furthermore, there is actually an extensive collection of Tegan and Sara songs in my library. I was a fool, walking with the ghost of a guilty conscience. What would the Allhiphop.com shareholders think if this information went public?

20111130-123210

The fall into degeneracy is usually quick. Not long after I published “Wonderwall,” an article defending Miley Cyrus’ transition into hip-hop sensibilities, I knew dark sectors were on the horizon. Around that time I discovered a song entitled “23″ by MikeWillMadeIt featuring Miley, Wiz Khalifa, and Juicy J. At first I thought the song atrocious, a clear jokes-on-you! in the vein of Weird Al Yankovic. Not until I watched the video did I become a fan of the song, and this is not entirely because a fully-developed Miley is 99.9 % naked while twerking and wearing Air Jordan sneakers (if you’ve spent even a millisecond on my personal blog, you will understand immediately why I strongly support all of these things). In the video, the respective artists are completely serious and couldn’t give a flying 747 f### about the public reaction. Like Steve Jobs founding Apple in his garage, this was a climatic intellectual awakening for me. Better yet, it was more like the apple that fell off a tree and hit Issac Newton in the head. Juicy J doesn’t care one iota about what people think of him, and for that, he is respected by everyone. It occurred to me in that moment that Juicy J would never fret about his music listening habits, or anything else for that matter. Suddenly, I understood the laws of motion, and more importantly, I understood that Juicy J had all the answers to the world’s problems.

screen-shot-2012-02-27-at-4-30-25-pm

Immediately after this revelation I burned all of the literature on my bookshelf Fahrenheit 451 style. It was time to think differently. At first, the recognition that Juicy J held all the keys to life’s obstacles was frightening to say the least. It’s the same sensation you’d feel if while sober you spotted Yoda just chilling under a tree as you walked to your apartment. As shocking as this scenario would be, you wouldn’t run or scream. Instead, you would absorb as much knowledge as you could from the little green creature. By the way, if these sentiments cause you to rofl, it’s an indication that you are yet immersed in Trippy wisdom, a dangerous disposition to maintain. Do some soul searching and proceed.

We live in a truly great time, but unfortunately, most universities in the U.S. haven’t fully caught on to the societal innovations manifesting all around us. To most professors the answers to life’s greatest questions lie in the teachings of dead philosophers and writers. If you’ve never had the misfortune of having Nietzsche’sBirth of Tragedy slapped across your face with a 8-10 page essay to boot, count yourself one of the lucky ones. Why are we supposed to care or pretend to care about what Nietzsche had to say? For all of his brilliance, Nietzsche spent his last days screaming gibberish at horses in the street. If Juicy J ever succumbed to such madness, he’d probably make it look cool as hell. I suggest the next time you see someone at Starbucks reading a book by Nietzsche, slap the Vanilla Chai Latte out of their hand, politely tell them to slob on your knob, and slide them a copy of Juicy J’s album, Stay Trippy. Trust me, you will doing them a tremendous service.

“She wanna be my main chick, I was thinking different
Clap that ass, light a blunt, baby, let’s get ig’nant”

Juicy J ain’t Denzel, but he knows he’s a star. That’s straight from the horses mouth (no Nietzsche). Juicy’s resolute belief in himself gives him the freedom to present an uncensored version of himself to the world without even the faintest sense of worry as to how it will come across to others. Let me give you a quick example. Egg-nog is an acquired taste, but ratchet p#### is universally frowned upon by males and females alike. In fact, gynecologists make quite the living preventing ratchetness in the v#####. But Juicy J is unapologetic in his inability to deny ratchet p####. In fact, he’s proud. My initial thought when I first heard the line in question was, “how ratchet can a p#### be before Juicy J says no to it?” But this is the wrong line of thinking, and has contributed to the stagnation of intellectual progress for centuries. Juicy states his passion with such an authoritative tone that suffice it to say, there is no p#### too ratchet for Juicy J, and he doesn’t care what you think about that.

Not only is Juicy a trailblazer in “thinking differently,” he is also prolific with words. Ernest Hemingway made a name not only with his novels, but his “ice berg” theory of writing; a belief that all writing should only contain the essential syntax ingredients and be cut rid of the superfluous. On “Bandz A Make Her Dance,” quite possibly Juicy’s magnum opus, we hear “strippers!” before any instrumentals. Genius. Not only is the theme established on sight, but any person not appreciative of strippers is able to cut their listening session short. “Bounce It” is a dazzling display of ingenuity conveyed in layman’s, Hemingway-esque terms.

juicy-j

There is no doubt in Juicy’s mind that bandz will make her dance, and this is evident by his authoritative delivery. On Young Jeezy’s “Show Out,” Juicy J reminds us that he has been gettin’ rich since the 90′s, and needless to say, he obviously has had much experience with the power of bandz. Like Yoda, we with good reason intuitively understand that Juicy has lived for many years, and has the wisdom to back up his claims. Like all great teachers Juicy speaks in a universal language. Whenever you see the title for a Juicy J song like “Tongue Ring,” “Sippin On Some Syzzurp,” “Ridin’ Spinners,” or “Azz and Titiez,” you are never confused by the thematic content. I’ve read an entire book about Kid A, and I still don’t quite understand what it means. But “Azz and Titiez” is a song instantly comprehensible. Yes Radiohead make great music, but so what? I don’t want to feel like an idioteque, missing out on some brilliant comment on world affairs just because I’m too dumb to grasp Thom Yorke’s supposed brilliance. Juicy J speaks a language mostly of endurance. The predominant themes of his teachings revolve around staying fly and staying trippy. On the surface, such advice seems trivial, but in all actuality these are critical pathways for success. Whether you want to become a doctor, lawyer, the next Steve Jobs or Issac Newton or Teagan and Sara-related public relations agent, perseverance is what you will need to accomplish your career goals. Working your way up to the big-faced hundreds is advice valuable not only to strippers, but to you as well. This is what staying trippy is all about. Believing in yourself and in your vision. Your particular vision might involve bending it over and poking it like wet paint. Nevertheless, staying power is what you need.

Greatness is inherent in every person. I present this article not only as fundamental reading material in the trippy cannon of literature, but also as a guide for life. For the waning months in 2014, you may have a list of resolutions you hope to see accomplished. My advice to you would be to put the highest priority on staying trippy. If you stay trippy, laws of motion will energize your life, and the things you wish to achieve will fall into place like the apple on Newton’s head. Eating healthier, exercising more, spending less time watching Vines…staying trippy will give you endurance and a clear mind to overcome the hurdles before you in order to truly tap into your own greatness.

May you stay trippy for life.

AHH ALBUM REVIEW: Common "Nobody's Smiling"

Common has always been Chicago’s ambassador of Hip Hop. Kanye West may be the most influential artist coming out of the Windy City, but Common’s rhymes have always felt like the city’s presence in popular Hip Hop; with his rhymes closely mirroring the state of city along with his pride and confidence. Unfortunately, Chicago hasn’t been in great condition in the past few years. The constant violence there has made the city the murder capital of the country, even to the point where the violence has influenced the Chicago’s new waves of artists, whether it’s in terms of peace or war. This is evident in Common’s tenth album Nobody’s Smiling, a project that illustrates Chicago’s hostile inner-city. Compared to Common’s last albums, Nobody’s Smiling is dark, maybe darker than the Chicago’s inner city streets. However, Common’s consciousness in rhymes shine’s as bright as the street lights that guide someone out of a hostile environment.

There are different factors that make Nobody’s Smiling a complex masterpiece, with one of them being the production. All of the instrumentals are produced by No ID, however, there isn’t any repetitiveness present. Each instrumental fits well with Common’s rhymes, and helps Common paints the gloomy streets of Chicago’s inner-city. One of the songs that makes this evident is the second track off the album, “No Fear”, a track that uses a barbaric bassline and synths to illustrate a man’s competitive nature within Chicago’s hostile inner-city. Nobody’s Smiling production is spot on, using hip hop rooted beats with a darker twist. Thanks NO I.D.!

Common’s conscious rap skills aren’t new, but in Nobody’s Smiling, his skills are illustrated through a point-of-view perspective. His verses puts listeners in the shoes of a young child surrounded by the chaotic environment of inner-city Chicago. This perspective is played out through a plethora of songs in Nobody’s Smiling, one of the best being the track of the same name. The album seems like it’s dedicated to shedding light on Chicago’s inner-city (and it does for the most part), but Real is a song that takes you away from the dark Chi-town streets to see the beauty of the city through upbeat production and light-hearted wordplay. Common’s lyrical ability is as strong in Nobody’s Smiling as it is in his last 9 albums, maybe stronger.
In conclusion, Nobody’s Smiling is a project dedicated to informing listeners about what is going on in the streets of inner-city Chi-Town. It’s serves as the channel news of the inner-city streets, but instead of anchors and reporters, Common uses intense wordplay and first-person perspectives to give you the story, while the dark instrumentals draw you into the hostile streets of the Windy City.

Keith Sweat's 53rd Birthday Celebration: An Epic Night In R&B

R&B Legend Keith Sweat and Jamahl King /Steps Events made it a night to remember for Sweat’s recent birthday celebration at his nightclub, Fuego, in Duluth, Georgia (an Atlanta suburb). It was an epic night in R&B as Joe, Case, Tank, 112, Silk, Dru Hill, Lyfe Jennings, J Holiday, Christopher Williams, and more hit the stage to perform their hits in celebration of the R&B icon’s birthday. V103’s Ryan Cameron reminded the crowd that there were R&B legends on the stage and joked that many of those in the audience had in fact gotten pregnant off of their songs. Comedian and actor Carl Payne took the mic starting his speech with his infamous bird call from the classic sitcom Martin. He went on to say he felt like he nailed the R&B look, even though he was the only “non-singing” male on stage. He said, “now you may not have gotten pregnant off of me but I got you through a lot of hard times (alluding to Martin).” Comedian Bruce Bruce sang a Keith Sweat “There You Go Telling Me No Again” snippet on the red carpet for us. It was a magical night in R&B music.

AllHipHop’s Rea Melissa Davis was on the red carpet speaking with the singers about the impact Sweat made on their careers, what it felt like being there to celebrate his birthday, the current state of R&B, as well as what they’re currently working on. Check out our video recap above.

Wiz Khalifa Says Tyga's Excuse For Dropping Out Of "Under The Influence" Tour Was "Corny" (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Friendships in Hip Hop are usually an exercise of passive aggressiveness, but not with Wiz Khalifa. In a recent interview, Wiz Khalifa explains why Tyga dropped out of the “Under The Influence” tour and why he thinks his excuse is corny.

The Under The Influence tour kicked off yesterday (July 24th) in Scranton, Pennsylvania at The Pavilion at Montage Mountain. Two weeks before the tour started, two and a half months after it was announced, Wiz Khalifa informed the public on his personal Twitter account that Tyga was dropping out of the tour:

Less than 8 hours after Wiz Khalifa announced Tyga’s abrupt exit, Tyga took to his personal Twitter account to explain that he left the tour to finish his album and film a movie. According to Wiz during an interview with Mina SayWhat on Power 99 earlier today (July 25th) that excuse was wack and Tyga never informed him of his departure from the tour personally:

I felt like that was just corny. We’re better than that. At the end of the day, you don’t say ‘album and a movie’ to sound like you have something to do, ’cause I did my album before the tour and I’m shooting a movie once I get off tour and I got a son. So, at the end of the day, what do you want to do with your life?

Check out Wiz Khalifa address Tyga leaving the Under The Influence tour below:
