Mos Def Movie Snags An Emmy

Hip-Hop represented

at the 56th Annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles last night (September 20), as “Something

the Lord Made” starring Mos Def snagged an Emmy for Outstanding Made for

Television Movie.

The made-for-TV

movie aired on premium cable channel HBO. The network dominated the evening,

snagging nine of the first 17 awards handed out.

Mos plays Vivien

Thomas in the movie, an African-American man who was a pioneer in the field

of heart surgery, despite never attending medical school.

In related news,

Mos Def will perform along side Robin Williams, Wyclef Jean and others for the

American Civil Liberties Union Freedom Concert on October 4th at New York City’s

Avery Fisher Hall.

On October 12,

Mos Def will also release The New Danger, the long awaited follow up

to 1999’s Black on Both Sides.
