“At this point I don’t give a f*ck about selling a million records. I just want to put out an album that you can rock to this summer.” -Kanye West
12 inches of mud, rain and even a tropical storm couldn’t keep the 30,000+ attendees at the 2013 Governors Ball Music Festival away from Randalls Island in New York City this past weekend. Festival-goers from across the globe all converged on the “wetlands” to see talent like Guns N Roses, Nas, Kings Of Leon, Erykah Badu, Kendrick Lamar, Bloc Party and most of all Kanye West perform for fans and music-lovers alike.
Over the course of three days and spread across four stages, the 30+ acts that performed at Governors Ball all had the crowd in a frenzy despite the conditions that were less than stellar, yet everyones spirits stayed high.
West, who headlined the festivals final night, performed 4 tracks from his new album Yeezus, which hits stores next Tuesday (June 18), that included “New Slaves,” the rumored to be Daft Punk-produced record “On Site,” “I Am A God” and the high-energy cut “Black Skinhead” which he opened and closed his set with. In addition to the new material, Yeezy did classics like “All Falls Down,” “Touch the Sky,” “Stronger,” “Can’t Tell Me Nothing,” and even threw in the now-expected Ye rant in towards the end of his set.
