Will and Jada Pinkett Smith Team With Sundance Institute To Push Diversity Among Filmmakers

WILL AND JADA PINKETT SMITH CONTINUE THEIR ACTIVISM WITHIN ENTERTAINMENT

(AllHipHop News) Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have teamed up with bosses at the Sundance Institute to help encourage diversity among independent filmmakers and artists.

The movie stars’ foundation, The Will & Jada Smith Family Foundation, will work with the Sundance Institute’s Screenwriters Intensive and other projects in support of the new campaign.

The collaboration will last at least two years.

“We are honored and energised to collaborate with Sundance Institute to cultivate stories and storytellers reflective of the world at large, and we view today as the beginning of a productive, purposeful and powerful alignment with an enduring institution,” Jada Pinkett Smith says.

The Smiths hit the headlines last year, when Jada revealed the couple would be boycotting the Oscars in protest about the lack of African-Americans and minorities chosen to compete for Academy Awards.

Many film experts felt Will was snubbed for his role in “Concussion.”
