Baby Bam of Jungle Brothers Speaks On New Movement

I got at Afrika Baby Bam of the Jungle Brothers to explain himself. I am a fan of the JB's from way back and was startled at some of the rumors that had leaped from the online community. So, I reached out to the dapper dressing fellow to see what exactly was going down with those photos circulated on the Native Tongue founder and his new movement.

In case you didn't know (or care to know) Baby Afrika has a new clique called Pagan Society. Here is what the Hip-Hop legend had to say -word for word. There seems to be some subliminal verbal jabs on individuals and very blatant bolos thrown at Hip-Hop itself.

If it helps, according to Merriam Webster, a “pagan” is “1: heathen; especially: a follower of a polytheistic religion (as in ancient Rome), 2: one who has little or no religion and who delights in sensual pleasures and material goods : an irreligious or hedonistic person.

http://allhiphop.com/photos/blog_pictures/images/19445231/secondarythumb.aspx“In the wake of the death of Hip-Hop as an authentic culture, from the ashes rise Pagan Society. Before Hip-Hop had a name it experimented and mixed together existing genres of music to evolve into itself. It was a rebellious movement that later conformed and allowed itself to be pimped by corporate interest who initially gave it the cold shoulder.  It had more juice when it was underground and only those in the know were up on it.

Now it's been reduced to one hit wonders and token puppets who are being used to sell everything but music. We the people of Pagan Society are not nostalgic underground backpacking culture vultures,
Hip-Hop groupies trying to bust a rap star nut for our ego's sake so we can say we fucked her too; correction some of us are culture vultures. Nor are we trying to create another sub-genre of the style to get you gassed up on the new cookie cuttin' shit we baked to get your deflated dollar. We're a movement with leaders that are opening the gates of hell and letting out a fury of creativity that has no boundaries. The way you thought the world would be before your brain got child molested by social norms. Like the internet we are not regulated by rules.

We're Pagan and everything we do is Pagan! We're not studio gangsters and we're not fake self-righteous conscious rappers. We're demons on the loose taking all you fake, pretentious, industry-n****s to hell for your own good. We say whatever we want and do whatever the f**k we want because we're Pagan. We Paganize every THING until your brain can't remember what it was 'told' to call it.

The leaders of our movement are B.A.M.(BadAssMuthfuka) (Baby Bam) and 2nen Bladez. Both made attempts to save the cash cows from going to the slaughter house. But the grass was too green on the other side of the fence for cash cows to resist. After the platinum plaques, the rented jewelry, the rented cars and MTV crib houses, the chicken commercials, the energy drinks, the clothing lines, the Grammy's, the Oscars and the layaway b***hes, they watched the skeletons of these cash cows get dumped back on the streets where they came from like toothless crackhead ex-convicts released from puppet purgatory. Like Martin Luther King these cows under the control of crafty poverty-pimps fought to be integrated in the systems date-raping machine. To be prisoners in the Pretty Hate Machine's asset column for a few grains of grass.

Well now it's time to mow the lawn and the PaganSociety is in charge of waste disposal. We have Bone Collectors, CultureVultures, ScavengerHunters, and GrimStoners. Like Haysuess(Jesus)- as if such a person really existed- you won't find us in any Temples of hiphop because they're all hollow vessels of corruption and bogusness. Any crusader purist of
Hip-Hop's past are just hollowgrams; ghosts in the machine screaming "yes yes yall" hoping to evoke the spirit of Kid Creole. And you won't find us singing like Magilla Gorillas in the window telling the world we're "Crazy" even though we know we are. And we do like corruption by the way but only when we're doing it.

You might call us demons not because you view us as something bad for you. The opposite is true- we're demons because we're something good for you that you don't want to eat, but what could be worse than all the bullshit you already ate. We know some of you'd rather have a K.West d**k burger in your mouth because you thought a gay-rapper could save
Hip-Hop. But you found out that it was just neatly packaged dissolved-middle-class-low-testosterone-throwback-Black orphan-Emmanuel Lewis-Cosby-Kid-era-junk-food-rap-for-the-Soul?

We predict certainly, because we know that after you get in bed with us, everything you experience through your six primitive senses will be sent back as a message to your brain that says, "Pagan." Every bit of your essence including what little bit of collective soul society has left will tell that what your experiencing is Pagan, Pagan? PAGAN! We welcome all 65 billion sheep on the planet to your new world - PaganSociety! "Be Pagan and Proud!" We hate when you're fake but we love when your PagaN."

P.S.101

Where's the ineterview?  Thats just the info from his myspace.  If I correctly recall I posted the link to this very statement to the comments section on your rumors section a week or so ago, when your healine read "A Gay Jungle Brother?!?!".  I also hit up the following days' page with some info on his pagan thing too.  While you are at it maybe you can skip back to the comments section & check out the info another one of your readers left regarding the origin of the pics.

(Dudes girlfriend with terminal cancer decided to make him up at a party full of pretty attractive women-not a bunch of queer dudes-ala Kelso @ the slumber party w the girls on That 70's show-he put the pics up on his myspace supposedly as a tribute to her & also to prove he doesn't give a fuck what people say or think)

I'm not sayin' anything about anything.  I was a big fan of the Natives & the JB'z & I was hoping to find an interview where he would get a chance to clear things up-not an old rehash of info I already knew-& put many here on ahh up on to with a few simple mouseclicks-without trying to defame anyone or speak ill (no pun) of before gathering more info.

I don't know about this pagan shit, nor the photo's.  To each there own I guess.  If dude IS GAY I know I won't spend a lot of time dwelling on it.  Shit, I live in Seattle.  I'm around gays daily.  They are real people just like anybody else.  Same goes for freaks & weirdos too.  Whatever.  I don't have to sleep with them nor am I interested in what they do in their private lives.  Shit, I don't want to know what most straight people do let alone some old Adam & Steve ish.

Oh well.  Props I guess for letting folks know what dude is up to-even if it is some old next shit.

I agree with you illseed. Sure hip-hop is nothing like it was in the 80's & 90's but it is what it is. We need versatility in hip-hop. I blame the lyrical cats more so than the snap rapers. Lyricist or whatever other genera of hip-hop just need to step there game up because you can't hate on the next man for doing them. Also the fans need to understand that hip-hop needs balance... I bet too many people couldn't even give me the true meaning of "Real Hip-Hop" (*Hint It doesn't necessarily mean the type you like or grew up on)

rep4304life - come on, pops. i take my stand ever day homey. and i give it up to dudes like AWESOME DRE, SMOOTHE the huster, MC REN....this is within the last month alone...now, you have to be aware of who you are talking to b4 you start talking. what i do and have done speaks for itself. there is no disputing that the pioneers should be upheld, but is that what we are talking about? NAH,not really. i evn put some of the jungle brothers on top, and b4 just so cats dont get too flagrant. them dudes are some of the best Hip-hop has ever had...and definitely one of the best crews ever (native tongues.) in fact,Bam is one of the the founders. so, hold up.

he said hip-hop is dead. thats not true. KRS one is still rapping on a level that most 80s cats cant even conceive. melle mel is always entertaining.now, ffwd to 2008 and if you are willing to look, you will FIND quality hip-hop is cats like fat joe or cats like talib, jean grae, murs, wale, heiro, any #of cats down south and even the last 2 G-unit mixtapes...i mean, the list is endless...the roots, lupe, dice raw, wu tang.

cats are SPOILED. i used to enjoy discovering the next big thing.not waiting for it to be fed to me. now, when i said bitterhiphop.com i wasnt even talking about anybody in particular, but all this angst and whatever is a clash of generations. sure it WAS more POPPIN in the 90s and 80s but those periods had a lotta pure TRASH too. so its the same thing, the only thing is a lotta the trash is commerically accepted and there is no rejection by the rap community. they just accept it. so there are points in Bam's editorial that i agree with and others that i dont.

i always pay my respects to the old school cats, because i actually love and respect what they do. its real. melle mel is the GREATEST. period, but so is Jay, nas, kane, pac, biggie and kool g rap...ll cool j. There are a lotta Goats. some ppl just wnat it to be pac and big.

If you check out his girl's (yes, his girl's..) blog you'll find out that the pictures and the make-up are done by her in her crib and not at that Pagan Society club or whatever: http://dishalicious.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

Check it & you'll find out that his girl is quite sick and Bam is obviously in the middle of some rough times. The whole Pagan thing and philosophy is also of no interest to me, but I think this whole subject is wrongly interpreted and should be corrected for those who are genuinely interested.

"We're Pagan and everything we do is Pagan!"

  and

"We Paganize every THING until your brain can't remember what it was 'told' to call it."

Sound more like some anti religious stuff...or some im going to rebel against everything just because type of thing, which in itself is just another "trend" or "culture" for lack of better terms.

On the real...just shut up and make some music...do some shows. Stop complaining about the state of hip hop and do something about it. Who cares if they play the same shit on the radio all day...now days radio spins do account for record sales. So you have artist with the # 1 song doing 35,000 records. Thats not too far off from strong independent albums without radio play.

Hip Hop music is made everyday...in every city...In this day and age we have more resources to hear artist than ever before. Countless websites and myspace pages full of every type of music. If you want some "real hip hop"...stop crying and listen to it. Records sales is down but people still buying ipods and other mp3 players...what exactly are we filling them up with? Umm...music.

that was a real statement bruh...!!  and i feel what hes saying about how we (im 30 years old) used to look down on non creative moves in hip hop by an artist.  and how biting was looked down upon, orginality was everything.  basic laws of hip hop are dead and not even taken into consideration anymore.  hip hop has definately been pimped because of some characters that have been let in to the game year by year as hip hop manifested and evolved.

the young generation has gotten a bad rap and at the same time lack of education on what hip hop is, what its about, what its purpose is and was at the beggining.  and most importantly the history of who said what and who the artist was as a person.

In other genres, Rand B, rock, jazz etc
old songs that were good and are still good and stand the test of time get played and are cherished.  I feel in hip hop we dont do the history enough.  we dont understand what was going on at the time when a lot of songs were made.  the Doors had a place where they were coming from.  they had a position.  Ice cube had a position.  rodney king, civil rights, black panthers, gang life, all were in his music because thats what was going on at the time.  there was a certain pride and respect and emcee had to have and had at those times.  we are talking about BAM and the jungle brothers.  they had a position and strog one starting the native tounges.  and i think thats where most hip hop fans are lost.  they are from a generation where the struggle is blanketed by wool that gradually fell over everyones eyes in the guise of money and corporations watering down hip hop. and instead  infesting chains, and whips and bullshit.  yeah that rhymes. what what about the times, crying times.  in vietnam we had the music reflecting what was going on u can listen to the era of musica and it bleeds for change, peace and it was relevant to the time.  in this era of iraq and black president hopefuls and possible women presidents when they couldnt vote just before i was born.  where in the music will be able to look back and listen to revelant history in our music.  we will here chains, party, and strip ur clothes off and get low.  when the realest shit in a long time in life and govt is going on.  i mention cube in this because if u look at 'gangsta rap made me do it' video u see footage of whats going on and real issues of today.  thats what cube is about. thats what hip hop is about.  the real.  the real how it is.  no bullshit just raw footage.

I saw one post about someone referring to big daddy kane dancing in his video or some stupid shit like that.

back in those days and at that time in hip hop for u to see a video of Big Daddy Kane at all!!!  you had to realize u had to have have hot music that people respected. and those songs were already known on the streets and was popular to the point that with barely no media outlets for videos in any genre of music to mention videos then, u are missing the point.  how many people on here had favorite artistsand never knew what they looked like. if u cant raise ur hand u have to question if u love the music or love what is forcefed down ur mouth.

like BAM said if u already ate sooooo much bullshit whas one more bite...??  rarely did you see a video and not know what the person was about lyrically, and on the streets.  Hip hop was the street element.  and i dont mean crime i mean what the word was on the streetes at the time.  like BAM said hip hop was for people in the know!

as an example.   There is a Rocko (spelling) video out "Imma do me".  now he is almost a household name with a song thats hard to avoid.  in this day you know his face and one song from him and he has a video already.  now i dont know who rocko is.  where hes from.  i havent heard ANY other song i dont know if hes nice on the mic.  I dont know what crew he runs with. i dont know where hes from in the south ( i know hes south and he sounds like jeezy wrote that song and gave it to him for his birthday).  but my point is why is the corporation pushing this song.  what made it so hot that the video had to be made.  and what about rocko affords him to be a star so soon before we love his music....????

doesnt love come first???

that fact that the love and passion for hip hop has opened conversation  like this bodes well for the music and the culture. it's pure passion that we have that will one day balance this game. passion for it made it this big in the first place.

allhip hop is a very good site. even I think better than the source was in its day because the average fan gets the opportunity to voice themselves.

peace to everyone here that voices their opinion based on knowledge and sincerity. and even those that don't still get the opportunity to learn a little.

and  without sounding corny...pray for AFRIKA.. baby B.A.M

one day he will wake up from his nightmare and read some of this concern and be proud that someone gave a f%$ about him.

I think it's funny that you see all the white rockstars with makeup and eyeliner and it's normal, but a black guy does it and suddenly he's automatically gay. They're closer to being industrial music, so having an industrial style image is probably better for them. Referencing Pretty Hate Machine... look at all the makeup worn by Trent Reznor.

The problem is not what he looks like but the fact that the message he's sending has nothing to do with the music he's putting out. Who cares what religion you are or if you're gay or not, where's the music? Where's the audio link? For every rapper that talks about 'my album has this, my album has that'... needs album links or video links or something.

You said...and i totally respect your opinion..."I think it's funny that you see all the white rockstars with makeup and eyeliner and it's normal, but a black guy does it and suddenly he's automatically gay"

But...them rock and roll dudes who dress and wear that stuff...they all in the same catergory. I dont know who Trent Reznor is...but if he dress and act like dude do...yeah i lump them together.

Now on the audio links point...im with you all the way. Stop complaing about the state of hip hop and let me here what you gotta say on the beat. Im with that

@akaneon1 White rockers who wear makeup are just as suspect to me. I feel if you wear eyeliner, lipstick, makeup that is real suspect. Then he has some nerve to refer to Kanye as a gay rapper when he is the one dressed up in shiny leather suite, makeup, red lipstick and all. I did like some of the songs that jungle brothers did with tribe called quest and delasoul but I think this guy done lost his mind.

What real man would let his girlfriend dress him up like a woman, in makeup?  That's bullshit.  Did you read all of the shit that he said?  That dude is ranting.  It just seemed almost incoherent to me.  Why put the pictures on Myspace if you're not gay when you know millions of Jungle Brothers fans are going to see it and wonder?  He could have done the pictures and kept them to himself.  What's his problem?

Dude is gay, in my opinion.  Banks standing next to him isn't helping out G-Unit.

Gotta start off by saying I've always dug the JB's. Baby Bam, Mike G & Sammie B fo real. "I'm Gonna Do Ya" is a bonafide classic among many others of their songs...but damn, Bam just sounds like one of the grumpy old uncles of hip hop. I know for a fact hip hop ain't dead. Saw Kweli & Pharoah Monche this past Wednesday & it looks like hip hop is doing fine. It really surprised me seeing that this guy gave his assessment of hip hop based on what's being played on the major outlets. C'mon Bam, you know the game. Have you even listened to Eardrum? Finding Forever? Get Back? American Gangster? Desire? Underground Kingz? The Cool? Hell...go listen to the fire AHH got posted on the Media Zone. I DARE you to say hip hop is dead after listening to any one of those sets...I'm disappointed in Bam & I ain't even trippin' on the new look...live & let live...

BTW...I'll have a couple of dem titty tacos but make mine a super-sized Lisa Lisa combo!!

Trent Reznor is the frontman for Nine Inch Nails. He actually is an admitted bisexual, but no one cares because Nine Inch Nails, to their fans, is legendary. Ozzy Osbourne wears tons of makeup, and he's married with kids.

I'm just saying we shouldn't judge by image. What I was really saying is that if you're gonna make statements like this and toss around some wild ass image you should have some kind of musical presentation to go with it.

Where is his music, fam? I haven't heard anything new from them in years, no albums, nothing. No longer relevant.
