It takes a while to get across but to me, he's saying that everybody wants to "Be a N***** Too", but before you do that you need to think about what that really means. Pay close attention to the last verse "They hang N******", etc. and maybe the point will get across.
I see it as a double edged sword:
It's trying to make people understand that this whole thing about how some want to think that being one is cool, is, in fact, not something you should want to be, because the meaning of the word is ignorant.

At the same time, it may also be trying to take the edge off the word at the same time, by making people realize its just nothing more than a word.

Personally, I like the former intention much more than the later, and hope that's the true meaning of the track.

This weekend I was in Daytona Beach and they had a document from 1893 which was a auction sheet for Slaves.
It was one of the sadest things I have ever read(Ihave read a lot). It talked about how it was no problem to break up a family and just take one or two of the kinds. It described the women as wenches. It also had a family that had two kids that were mulattos(their description). Then it stated at the bottom that these slaves were in good condition that nothing was wrong with them(as if they were a car). It described on of the men as missing a eye and for several it gave a estimated age.

This really put me back in my proper perspective and got me back refocused. If many of you could have read this it was crazy. I am planning a trip to South Carolina cause that is where many of the slaves trades to place. Everyone please don't forget what all of your ancestors had to go through for us to be here today doing WTF we want to.

That being said I ain't mad at Nas for this we need to not forget our history and he is opening eyes and maybe people will get some knowledge off this. Nothin else not forget what we get called on the low anyway
