Hip-Hop star Wyclef Jean is the subject of a copyright infringement lawsuit surrounding a song on his sixth album Carnival 2: Memoirs of an Immigrant.

Brooklyn rapper Blahz, born Martell Ellis, filed a lawsuit in Manhattan U.S. District Court accusing Wyclef of sampling his group Blahzay Blahzay’s 1995 hit single “Danger” without permission.

In addition to Wyclef, Sony BMG is named in the lawsuit, which seeks an undisclosed amount which sources claimed could be as high as $50 million dollars.

In related news, Wyclef will kick off the “Carnival House Tour” on January 14 in Providence, Rhode Island, in support of Carnival Vol. II.

The tour will hit 21 cities before winding down February 26 in Kitchener, Ontario. Representatives for Wyclef Jean were not available as of press time.

This dude has every right to sue because Clef violated his intellectual property. Prodigy definitely didn't clear any samples on Return of the Mac, but the isn't a commercial artist. Wyclef is very commercial and he will profit handsomely from this album. I hope dude gets his money.

EAST COAST HIP HOP ANTHEM, FUCK CLEF..
he is caked and should be hittin off anyone who he sampled/stole from, how the fuck would he like it if someone sampled him without getting paid ?? that shit is kinda ok on indie labels....
i think that is partly how the beef with Jeru and Blahz started back then cos Preemo let Blahz use the sample and Jeru was against it although he still appeared in the video.....they dissed Jeru on that POSSE JUMPA track...
