Business mogul and political activist Russell Simmons has assembled an all-star cast of rappers, who will launch the National Hip-Hop Team Vote 2008 campaign in Philadelphia on April 20.

Rappers like Styles P., Mike Jones, Webbie, Lil Boosie, Rich Boy, Lil X, Flo-Rida, singer Chrisette Michelle, BET's Rocsi and Terrence J. and Reggaeton singer Alexis y Fido will encourage youth to vote during the important Pennsylvania primary, which takes place on April 22.

The event is sponsored by the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN), The Hip-Hop Research and Education Fund (HREF), PowerPAC and Voto Latino. Simmons will join the rappers and local activists, who will speak to young adults about the importance of voting and participating in all phases of the presidential elections.

"The fact is that even in this struggling economy the rich have put more distance between them and the poor," Simmons told AllHipHop.com. "The fact is that young people have more compassion and vision, while the old people have built this mess and don't have the collective faith that they can make a real change. I believe We need the hip hop community to pick this next president. And I have faith that they will. Pennsylvania is where we start to prove that."

Obama and Clinton will debate each other in Philadelphia this Wednesday (April 16), in hopes on winning the Pennsylvania primary on April 22.

Currently, Obama leads Clinton in the popular vote, nominating victories and elected delegates, while Clinton has a narrow lead in Pennsylvania.

"The turn out of the vote for the April 22 Pennsylvania presidential primary is both an opportunity and a responsibility for the Hip-Hop community to be the key decisive factor in determining the next President of the United States," HSAN CEO and President Dr. Ben Chavis told AllHipHop.com.

The event, which is free and open to the public, starts at 1:00 PM and takes place at Temple University's Liacouras Center Arena.

"Hip-Hop changes history by transforming the boundaries of the past and unleashing the power of a hip-hop vision and action for a better America and a better world that ends poverty, war and injustice," Dr. Chavis said.

this is the one year i think my vote will even mean something significant.

Don't shun the entertainer endorsement aspect of things, because it has proven successful with younger voters(see Vote or Die campaign) so thats just the cream on top of the cake. But walking advertisements aside, Ya'll brothers and sisters out there in PA, Philly in particular need to really go out there in significant numbers and cast a vote. Trust me, i don't know to what extent, but i do think it will be very beneficial for you guys City. I love Philly for the most part, but the rate of violence there saddens me.....

i hate to be the cynical one, but do ya'll really think america is gonna let a black man be the president?  i can't see it.  i'ma vote for the nig, but i can't see it happening.

probably a little later this century though, when the white folks are the minority.  and if they still running shit then and keeping they foot on black and brown folks necks, better watch out.  the majority getting oppressed by the minority is the recipe for a real revolution...

How do you hide the truth from a nigger? Put it in a book….
Let’s do a bit of research on this democratic structure of politics if we open a book instead of our mouths we would understand that elections change shit. It’s humorous how they puppet us into believing that voting will change something. Vote for Obama or Hillary because Big Russell said so – economically how close are you and Mr. Simmons-  your vote will keep it that way.

I'm a PA resident and both Clinton and Obama have been making plenty of apperances in this state. I think its important to stress to today's youth the importance of voting. Although,I might have chosen other people to do the job, I'm not mad at it. I find it appaling that many adults do not vote, and then are the first people to complain about everything.

I don't know if the world is ready for a black president but a change is something that this country needs now.

I have my own business and if I ever get to a billion dollars, I don't feel obligated to give my hard earned money back to people that didn't help me to earn it. The folly in this hate the rich mentality because you are poor is why the poor remains poor. The political system in America is controlled by wealth and voting does count, but not without monetary backing behind it.

There is nothing stopping poor people from pooling their resources and forming their own PACs (Political Action Committees) in America. If ten thousand poor people organized and pooled one dollar a day they could easily amass 2.4 million dollars a year to be spent on whatever cause that means the most to them. I know they have it, I see our people buying beers and cigarettes everyday, that is a dollar right there. Collectively even poor people in America are very wealthy, but seeing reality in this way requires a certain degree of intelligence and due diligence.

Instead of organizing and pooling their resources they want to complain and make excuses as to why they are dirty poor. The problem is that poor black people are too disorganized and complacent to change anything. I wasn't born rich either, I'm from SE DC. I never saw any millionaires in my immediate environment but I didn't whine like a bitch either. Blame the politicians like they give a fuck, blame the white man, blame the rich, blame everyone but yourself, they don't give a fuck.
